There are lots of maps that definitely were carefully thought out aesthetically but yield questionable gameplay results

A lot of the prettiest maps cause lag.

Bottlenecks aren't popular, so a map like mainland gives free range of movement. Same reason why Continent is the most popular water map

I wish we can have lagless pretty maps... the game has so many beautiful maps that get no love TT

Please install my mod Mainland Twilight, prettified Mainland with Balancing code from feldfeld. I cleaned the dirt and dead branches and ugly plants from grass texture, i.e I used clean texture already available in 0AD
so mainland will look like a pretty football stadium. It will look on videos if you plan to make videos of 0AD.

Yeah, what the hecken is going on here? Frontier fiber internet (my wifi) blocks it, but T-Mobile 4G does not.

Some ISP choose to block certain sites by default as a part of their firewall. You can try to turn off firewall or children protection in the router settings. If it still doesn't work you can contact them to whitelist sites for you.  My ISP decided to partially ban Reddit and completely banned 4chan and many adult sites, despite the fact that all of these are allowed in my country.

Going back to the topic, Leopard's Mainland Twilight is the most recommended map for TGs.

You may want to try: Coastal Ranges, Continent, Hyrcanian Shores, Kerala. All of these are good for multiplayers games.

What are the best (and worst) Skirmish maps for multiplayer? I understand random maps are the most popular, but I'm interested on how to make the skirmish maps better for just single player.

Is Pyrenees mountains a skirmish map? That one is fun. Otherwise none are really played.

Add things that are not the same as the random maps.

Try to make them varied and have different mechanics, something that helps is making a 4 season pizza .

Random maps cannot have more than one biome.B71ACB34-5587-46D1-9CF5-77643E96F22F.jpg.a770cb533236f09fc03e04e4c0aed3ac.jpg

What about 4 season map?

Sounds good, but the differnt biomes do not have ANY impact on gameplay. As far as I have seen, biomes , while visually attractive, do not impair or prefer a capability. You can build a farm in snow as well as in a desert as well aws in a swampy area; there is always a type of trees growing, elephants survive even in the arctic - all well justified in the interest of balanced gameplay. Just the biome itself does not seem to  contribute at all.

A "4-seasons biome" would impact strategy only if you could not grow a farm in a desert or in snow (you would probably have to revert to animal breeding instead), or your elphants or camels have alimited lifetime in the cold, or the like. So if you would change from one biome to another you'd need to consider this effect.

Oh, I was not aware - if you have a standard map and change the biome - do you get actually different resources?

I had assumed that the amount of resources is given by the abstract map and the biome is more eye candy (to be a bit provocative).

Thought this is why the abstraction mod does not need to use any biome, or does it?

Sorry for such noob questions!

A balanced version could be made.
