  1. The server was down for a while, so I'd say retry now
  2. Wildfire Games, an international group of volunteer game developers, proudly announces the release of "0 A.D. Alpha 19 Syllepsis", the nineteenth alpha version of 0 A.D., a free, open-source game of ancient warfare. This alpha features building and siege engine capture, a new pathfinder, visual replay and more! Easy Download and InstallDownload and installation instructions are available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. 0 A.D. is free of charge and always will be. Although you might find some people selling copies of 0 A.D., either over the internet or on physical media, you will always have the option to download 0 A.D. completely gratis, directly from the developers. Moreover, you can redistribute the game and modify it freely as long as you abide by the GPL. You can even use parts of the art and sound for your own projects as long as you abide by CC BY-SA. No "freemium" model, no in-game advertising, no catch. New Gameplay Features in This ReleaseBuilding and Siege Engine Capture: Non-siege units can now capture buildings and siege engines. When you hover your mouse over an entity that can be captured, two crossed flags appear so you can issue a "capture" order. If you do, you will start gaining some of that entity's "capture points" at a certain rate. (On screen, you will see your color taking up a greater proportion of the width of the entity's capture bar.) Once you gain all of these points, you capture the entity, and it is yours! (Note: You can still specify a regular attack on buildings and siege engines by holding CTRL when right-clicking on a target.) There is currently no animation for the units which are capturing, that will be added in a later version.New Victory Modes: "Conquest Structures" (destroy or capture all enemy structures to win) and "Conquest Units" (destroy all enemy units to win).Ceasefire Game Mode: The game can be set so that all players are completely unable to attack their enemies for a predetermined time at the start of a game.Attack Coordination: Players can request allies (including bots) to attack a specific enemy by clicking a button next to the player name in the diplomacy window. Also, Petra AI now supports attack coordination.Petra AI now warns its allies when it needs a tribute and lets them know when it advances to a new phase. The Ptolemaic lighthouse now has its special feature implemented: It reveals the shore on the entire map.New Skirmish Maps: Tuscan Acropolis (for 4 players; map preview), Northern Island (for 2 players; map preview), and Alpine Mountains (for 3 players; map preview). Graphics and User InterfaceIncreased Maximum Map Height: The engine now supports an eight times greater range of terrain heights, allowing for the creation of maps with more diverse and impressive landscapes.Visual Replay: Re-run a game and understand what took place in real time.Aura Visualization: Units affected by an aura are now marked with an icon when the aura giver is selected.New animals: New mastiff and wolfhound units have been added as well as a new rhinoceros. The Roman units now have voices in Latin. Voice actors and people with knowledge in ancient languages are invited to contribute more voices to the game! Under the HoodNew Pathfinder: The pathfinder is the component of the game engine that picks a route for a unit to move along from its current location to its target location, so that it does not collide with other units or with structures or with impassable terrain. The new pathfinder improves performance, but at the same time, it also introduces some new bugs. We have done as much as we could to ensure it was bug-free, but please report anything unusual!XML Validation: In 0 A.D., the behavior of units, buildings and other world objects is defined by their components, such as cost, health and more. All of these are described in XML files. The "grammar" of the XML files is now checked for correctness before being used by the game engine, which helps prevent technical problems. The generic Hellenic and Celtic factions have been removed.Linux users, please be advised that SDL2 is now enabled by default on Linux. Getting SupportPlease see the "Get Support" page on our website to find ways to get help from the active and friendly 0 A.D. community. We are well aware there is some room for improvement in 0 A.D. Some known issues are: Lag, visual glitches or textures not loaded, missing animations and more. When you provide feedback, we would ask you to focus on some of the other points that could be improved. Thanks. Please Contribute! We are seeking volunteer contributors in programming, art, sound, documentation and more. Programmers are especially welcome and can get started immediately. Interested? Log onto #0ad-dev on QuakeNet on IRC and meet the developers. Also, you are invited to register on our forums and start participating! Why "Syllepsis"?We name our releases according to development status ("Alpha" or "Beta"), successive release number (1, 2, 3, ...) and a word relating to the ancient world, in alphabetical order ("Argonaut" for A, "Bellerophon" for B, ...). "Syllepsis" relates to 0 A.D. as it means "capture" in Greek, and refers to the building and siege engine capture feature implemented in this version (Thanks, bouke!). For the next alpha, we welcome fan suggestions for words relating to the ancient world beginning with the letter T. Keep it original and related to the time frame portrayed in 0 A.D. (appx. 500 BC - 1 BC)! Subscribe to 0 A.D. Development NewsContact info for press, bloggers, etc.: aviv@wildfireATHENSgames.com without the capitalized name of a Greek city.
  3. The best way to support the development is to help out if you are able to. Even if you are not a programmer or 3D modeler there are still things you can do. Everything from helping out with translating the game, to improve the documentation, to telling people about the game. And most importantly to play the game If you want to support in a financial way, please see http://play0ad.com/community/donate/ for more information on ways to do so.
  4. Could you please show the exact path to the png file?

    Can't open rc

Well, there must be some information that is missing. I'm at a loss as for what it is though You did choose to uninstall any previous version during the installation, right? And you do have a couple of GBs free on your main hard drive? (Even if 0 A.D. is installed somewhere else the installation process uses the main disk.) Have you tried rebooting your computer and trying again? (I'm getting desperate if you can't tell ) Maybe one of the programmers have got a better idea where to look for the solution to this issue.

    Can't open rc

What version of Windows are you using? Did you get any error message during the installation?
  7. Already posted So I'm locking this, if you have something to add, please do it here: http://wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20100
  8. It's just spam, so please ignore if it happens in the future. We try and take care of it as soon as we can, but it's not always we are able to take care of it right away
  9. http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Manual_Settings is where to find that information. And lion, please don't post just to say that you will post later (it just means that one will have to look at the topic an extra time, without getting any new information). If you don't have the ability to reply fully, then it's better to wait until you have
  10. Fixed is a big word, but the new pathfinder has a lot less lag than before.
  11. Not really, it's more that we are tired of making false promises =) There are always small things (and often big things like release blocker bugs), which makes it take longer before we are able to release the next Alpha
  12. You can donate how much or how little you want to, that doesn't affect anything at all (apart from us having more or less money). I will not ask for the logs, as I think there is no reason to punish you here if you behave here. But please try and interact in a more humble way, that's going to make everything a lot easier for you.
  13. Overall I definitely think this is an area that needs some attention, here are a few things to consider though: Game Lobby/Play Online: While I think that Game Lobby might not be the most descriptive for someone who never has played any multiplayer game, I don't think switching to "Play Online" is necessarily the best option. If that would have been the only way to play online, sure, but now it isn't, so to make it easier to know what you are talking about when e.g. someone asks for help/debugging etc I think the name should be well defined. It should be possible to e.g. include some more information in the button (Game Lobby - Play Online or something).Options: Limit the visible sure, remove options not so sure. I'm certainly ok with e.g. only having basic options via GUI and having the more advanced ones in config files, but removing useful options just to make it simpler I don't agree with. We should definitely add some options in either case though, things like resolution are needed.Do we really need both "Explored Map" and "Revealed Map"? - Well, they serve different purposes, so I'd say we do. Explaining things better is definitely a good idea though. What does "Disable Treasures" even mean? - Not seeing the problem with that one, unless someone don't know what treasures mean? (Or the word disable, but I doubt people who are native English speakers would have that problem, and if you aren't you can play a translated version.)
  14. You do realize that I could ask to see the logs of the lobby chat? And if you have done anything bad that is logged there... Let's just say that I wouldn't feel too sorry about banning you in that case. As long as you behave in the forums I don't see any reason to ban you here, but feel free to try and convince me otherwise if you really want to. The only way to even have a chance to get back in the lobby is to behave more than well here.
  15. Elexis: If they are set to aggressive they should yeah, not sure if it includes buildings.
  16. You could play with people you know in real life, you could post in the forums a while before, you could post in the #0ad IRC channel (on irc.quake net.org) as long as you are not banned there too, or you could try and find people somewhere else.
  17. You can also connect directly to another player, the lobby is just there to make it easier to find other players.
  18. Cool If you intend for this to be played rather than just for screenshots/for fun, maybe try and add some player color somewhere
  19. Yeah, just ignore him, he's gone in a moment.
  20. Well, some topics can still be interesting even if he isn't. He will need to be banned after his reply to this and in the other topic though, or maybe I'll just delete his account which would still leave the topics (the ones without reply I'll just delete manually).

  22. Well, the intention here as far as I understand it is to provide something which can go in the actual game and not necessarily a mod, so in that case it belongs here Or possibly in the development forum. Either way that's not a big deal as the topic can be moved, my main point is just that this thread can be used so there aren't two threads about the same thing
  23. No, this is the topic about modding the Seleucids There's no reason to start a new topic for it
  24. http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Modding_Guide and the linked documents is a good start. You can learn a lot just from looking at existing XML files and see how it's done in them.
