Gonna watch this later. My current machine has no audio drivers.

Might want to give those scripts some flavor in it. I can't just let a rag-tag commander as an ally, %(_player_)s. If you're really that desperate for an alliance, %(_player_)s, offer me (%_amount_)s% (_resource_). Allies? Pfft. You can't even make a successful one last time! No alliances with you, %(_player_)s. Get rekt!

I know that Formation functions are broken, but I didn't listen. I'll just report it here: 25:20 - Group A commanded to Syntagma Formation 25:35 - Group A (Syntagma) + Group B (No Formation) commanded to Syntagma Formation 26:30 - Group AB commanded to No Formation. At this point I didn't notice the weirdness of the behavior of my units until.... 28:15 - Group AB + Group C (5 Pikemen at the Lower Part) commanded to attack Storehouse. Group AB doesn't obey unless they are being commanded exclusively. 28:55 - Some units from Group AB won't even move even when they're set to Violent Stance. 29:40 - It's from Group AB. I just gave up and commanded them to go back to Syntagma. At least it made them more responsive.

I feel so dumb knowing these random maps for the first time. I have a question: I just published this video under Creative Commons License. Did I use the attribution in my description correctly?

Outside of building and collecting resources, I can't think of a good way of creating scenarios that would teach new players about the game. Features getting put in, being revamped, removed, and drastic gameplay balances shifting all over the place after each Alpha makes scenarios obsolete almost immediately. Not to mention the devs HAVE TO re-train the AI accordingly as well.

Welcome to the forums! As Lion said, you can set Ceasefire for a number of minutes. I think it's on the map settings. That could help you solve the problem against early attcks. I feel that this is what making people hate Citizen Soldiers gameplay-wise (and you just confirmed it while I was trying to writethis reply). I don't exactly know what you mean by what you're trying to select but these are my two options: (a) Pressing "I" while box selecting all units on the screen will only select the idle units. (b) I box select everything, then Ctrl+Click the Women (middle-bottom part of the UI) to deselect them from the group. I like defending the concept of Citizen Soldiers, but I DO have to concede this point. It's difficult to "distinguish" military from worker units. You only have the professional soldiers (pure combat and no work), called Champions and Heroes. Since you come from AoE, this kind of habit is understandable. Your only real problem with zooming out is the clouds. Yeah, you can turn it off but I personally like it as eye-candy. I haven't played the mod yet, but I think wowgetoffyoucellphone's Delenda Est has the feature you're looking for. He just recently employed worshipping animations to each faction's patron deity.

These guys tire themselves just to play. But the time bug explains why some games are displayed as 9 hours or something.

Take a gander at my old hardware in all it's "crappy glory". Some things I can comment on: Mayorcete commenting STILL plays better than me when I'm focused. My build order is only effective against Petra. His build order is for a more well-rounded game. But I least I learned from him that Skirmishers are a good option against Rome. Hence, choosing the Iberian Embassy. Also, I seem to have the OLD Corinthian Isthmus map. It doesn't look like the one Mayorcete played. So my experiment falls apart. I would love any advice on how I can improve my gameplay.

I don't think that turtling is a viable strategy in this game. Maybe that's why it isn't much thought of.

Poor Mayorcete. He tried to show the Power of Carthage, but ended up simulating the Punic Wars. I'm no expert, but I think his gameplay against the AI is somewhat sloppy. So, it difficult for me to judge the balance based on his video. But he's correct in stating that he needs to focus more on the game than the commentary. I even found it difficult to adjust to a metal-oriented faction like Carthage. It needs a player with good economic-balancing skills to pull of. I think I'll try playing against the AI (Medium) to see for myself.

I've seen that cideo awhile back. Got me in motion sickness, so it's not my cup of tea. BUT I'm willing to bet that pyrogenesis has much better potential for VR than what they're currently using.

If that was Mayorcete, then I feel bad for what I've been missing out because of language barrier. Now, I kind of wish that the Philippines kept Castillano as a language in academics.

"Massacre is good." Lol Why did I even read that outside of its context?

===[COMMITTED]=== The next big thing : Helmets

It's the first time I found about the Scythian Shield and Bow technique. I never even knew that it's possible. You learn new things everyday. -
Eradication, Extermination, Massacre, Obliteration... just a few alternative words from the Thesaurus. I like the OP terms to be in vanilla, so there's a few can use if you don't want Genocide.

Please help us create an FAQ for the web site
sphyrth replied to feneur's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Q: How about more factions? A: Currently, there are no plans to add any more factions until the game reaches Beta phase. However, there are mods that add the Faction you might be looking for. Rise of the East adds the Han Dynasty Chinese for example. -
Bump* I hope that this is the first item on your website's FAQ. Every now and then people who just found out about the game keep suggesting it. If the threads that keep raising this issue get on my nerves, then I don't know how you guys must feel.
-
Given the fact that 0 A.D. was originally planned as a mod for AoE, I find it interesting that this thread exists. If there was no copyright issues, then I would love to see this materialize.

I don't consider them as trash units in the exact same way as AoE because: You can do more with them other than just sending them out to die (build and gather). AoE trash units don't. They can be used to "pay back" what you have spent them for. AoE trash units can't do that. You don't need to send out the weaker villagers just to build on a strategic position, and can contribute to the faster build time while the enemies are still closing in. AoE trash units don't. They're only defined as 0 A.D. Trash Units because They only cost Food and Wood Are there to fend off attacks until you can produce the stronger units. Some people don't like the concept of Glorified Villagers (aka Citizen Soldiers), and that's fine with me. I even had someone argue that Citizen Soldiers are either Citizens or Soldiers, but not both at the same time. Stressing the point that he was either wielding a sword, or a plow. However he sees it, I like how 0 A.D. implements it in the game. But that's just me.
-
@elexis That's what I also initially thought, until he said "until the cycle repeats itself again". It's like he wants Petra to openly say "Give me 5 Food or I'll attack that storehouse right there!" or something.
-
I'd name it Thermopylae simply for the factions. The problem is that I don't even know what the true historical map of Thermopylae looked like. Edit: scratch that. I actually meant Marathon. X-P

Talk about exhausting the flamethrower after completely roasting it.

You must've been playing the Ptolemies, since they're the only faction that gets most of their Phase I buildings for free. Did you know that you can rotate the camera angles using the Q and E buttons? Maybe that would help you click your rally point near your Civic Center without having its Bounding Box in the way. Edit: Use the R button to go back to the default camera view.

From experience, the Petra AI tries to destroy your army WHILE building another base on another strategic location. From your suggestion, I think you want something with the attributes of a turn-based strategy setup: make war only on strategic points and only if those points are being contested, and then saddle back once those points are won/lost. The only tip I could give is that you make maps with an attack-defend setup. Very linear.

I find it difficult to consider Citizen Soldiers being used purely as Trash Units. The definition works to some extent, but AoE's trash units can't pay themselves back nor be used to establish a strong defensive base. But if I just grant the purpose "fending off attacks to give enough time to produce stronger units", I think it's too early to say since the game isn't yet optimized to support huge population caps. I think it's possible though.
