  1. We are happy to announce that the beloved Sunday-Pro Games are back! Sunday Pro Games is a weekly community-event, where the best and most exprierenced 0 AD players gather for challenging teamgames, together with those who have been following this game for many alphas. The event strives to not only provide entertainment to the specatators, viewers and players, but also to improve the overall gameplay by showcasing uniqe new strategies, tactics and high-level execution in a somewhat competitive environment. Statistics on wins/losses and possibly extra points rewarding players that rush or are creative will be kept. There might be some visual awards for the winners ! This time the event is organized by Ginnungagap and me. Should you be intrested in supporting the event, please get into contact. Current Standings: WeirdJokes: 1pt HerkEule: 1pt Atrik: 1pt Vicktualia: 1pt Week1 - Game1 metadata.jsoncommands.txt Week2 - Game1 Week2- Game2 commands (5).txtcommands (6).txt When will the event take place ? Every sunday between 20:00 and 22:00 UTC in the upcoming weeks. Who can play ? Theoretically everyone ! It is only required to show up at the correct time and join the dedicated host. The best players present will be assigned to the player slots. Who that is is decided by the trusted hosts and the players organizing this event. They will try to find and set up team compositions that lead to a fair and pleasureful game. The present players voices and opinions will be heard. Players with unclear identiy that use smurf accounts will be considered last. What are the game settings ? 8 Players, 4v4, 200 pop limit, low starting resources, allied vision enabeled. The map will in case of doubt be mainland. Special maps may be announced before the game. How do we ensure a friendly environment ? We will encourage streamers to show the games. Players and spectators represent the 0 AD community and are therefore asked to remain polite and objective in their criticism. In case of severe violations of the 0 AD code of conduct or generally bad conduct players may be kicked from the game, muted and not considered for the following games. Good conduct does include not resigning early without communicating with the rest of the team, especially if one player should find himself in a bad spot after some things didnt work out as planned. Also spectators revealing anything that players can not see including writing "gg" counts as bad sportsmanship and will be followed by corrective measures. What mods can be used ? 0 A.D is a game by modders and for modders. There are no specific restrictions on mods. Obviously mods that include scripted unit behaviour or reveal information that would otherwise not be available are not allowed. For the sake of the succes of this event, we kindly ask you to use that freedom responsibly. Further information will follow ! How many games will be played ? The plan is, that if there is extra time, there will be a second game. While the first game is intended to be played on standard settings, the second game is supposed to be an opportunity to use more exotic maps, settings and game modes. Your ideas are welcome.

  2. and/or use nani's corpses.max e.g. "autociv.session.graphics.corpses.max": 50, https://github.com/nanihadesuka/autociv/blob/master/moddata/autociv_default_config.json#L11 or/and use a command (during the game play) as soon it starts getting slow (helps also a bit): https://github.com/sl5net/autocivp/blob/master/gui/common/functions_utility~autociv.js#L1320

  4. Not everyone likes my graphics. They reduce lag by removing a lot of things and replacing diversity (variation) by just one monotone object. Yes the performance is better but some enjoyment is gone. So it should be optional but highly recommended. Players can opt out of it if they really need to. @MarcusAureliu#s, which map layout? Circle or River or Groups? I might be able to host for you.

  5. I like this one and kate mod will reduce lag for sure, but everyone should use it else other will be in a disadvantage. low graphics settings to 0 extra graphics is preferable

  6. I've noticed that whenever there's an upgrade, it's the Linux users who are left in the old lobby because they are unable to install the new version immediately. This is due to the way package management is done on Linux. So for those of you on Linux who can't run the latest 0ad because it hasn't been packaged yet or won't be packaged for your OS, I have a solution that I hope works for you. It involves using the Nix package manager which in theory runs on every version of Linux and you only need to run 2 commands: one to install the package manager and one to download/compile/run 0ad. First install the Nix package manager by running: sh <(curl -L https://nixos.org/nix/install) --daemon Further directions here: https://nixos.org/download/ After the package manager is installed you should be able to run: nix run github:nixos/nixpkgs/master#zeroad This will download and compile the latest nix packaged version of 0ad (27 as of yesterday) if it hasn't done so already, then run 0ad. Since it has to download/compile it takes some time the first time you run it; about 12 minutes the first time on my mediocre PC. But after that it opens normally. To see what version of the code it's pulling down and compiling (as well as the build steps) you can look at this file: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/a19f7dcff880e1e6e82ea1b0f9155572b72385b2/pkgs/games/0ad/game.nix#L50 I'm curious if this works for you. Please let me know.

  7. Without F11 it's hard to tell if it's simulation lag or graphics lag. Right maybe someone has a copy somewhere. Else might be possible to recompile

  8. I'd be glad to do it, but RCs are not available any more here: https://releases.wildfiregames.com/rc/ Is there any way to get them again?

  9. That's a very good example of the problem (kudos for the idea of making a video out of it. so obvious, but nobody did it so far). Just watch the first 20 seconds, when the blue spearmen are moving prior to engaging in the fight. FPS are ~30, but it looks really choppy.

  10. I find the concept of this mod remarkable. It is evident that a color change in certain models will be received differently by different players. Perhaps it would be possible to modify the mod in such a way that individual players can adjust their preferred colors themselves (similar to how diplomatic colors can be customized), thereby circumventing the subjectivity dilemma. I believe this mod has great potential. Also, seleucids, is it possible to fix this?:

  11. Of course it is an option. We could also toss out the awful idea of separating the two time periods into two games (or expansions/mods/whatever Empires Ascendants and Empires Besieged are), that way we can include the Zapotecs more easily from the mod. What's more, as the team has decided to follow the path of eternal releases, freeing itself from explicit milestones (alpha, beta...), this division clearly no longer makes sense.

  12. v1.0.58 Big Games Latest Kate Overhaul Automation: Added an option to automatically enable the Kate Overhaul mod in 8-player games. The mod now automatically enables when a game reaches 8 slots. Graphics Optimization: Introduced an option to automatically limit graphics settings in large games to improve performance. Other Improvements: Dependency Update:** Bumped the translate dependency from version 2.0.2 to 3.0.0. Toggles corpses.max to "low" in big games. Updated readme with prettyOnOff and others

  13. We might add a workaround for this which could be interesting if we know the hierarchical structures, we could add a chief, high priest and maybe some intermediary level. Those would work as heroes. Unlike other civs they wouldn't have a 1 time limit (only max 1 alive) Bonus points if we could have dynamic specific name matching how they named people back then.

  14. It would interesting to compare the first RC of last year with the release. From the measurements it would seem the simulation is to blame not the graphics which is a bit weird but might be due to the spidermonkey update. The rc from last year would be closer than the release. Testing that might help us narrow it down more. So far I don't think there we have a clue. On macos I get up to 5 times the framerate of A26 with vulkan

  15. my guess is u will run into incompatible dependencies it would be easier to use nix to pull old dependencies, they will probably have the binaries already (if an old debian still use them) https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Nix

  16. Could you name three historical figures from any pre-columbian civilizations who lived during the time-frame 500 BC to 100 AD?

  17. tip: set to 150 or/and use kate mod.

  18. Could we schedule a "fast PC" TG for this weekend? I expect that those with really slow computers or adversely affected setups like @Meister are slowing turns for everyone, leading to many reports from players that otherwise have good performance. However, I have never really tried to verify this is the case. If we get a 4v4 where everyone has ideally >20 fps (min) in combat demo huge (found in scenarios -> demo maps -> combat demo (huge)), we can make sure that this is really the cause. I'd like to do it on Sunday, maybe when we did the a27 RC test, 18:00 UTC. @MetaPhyZic @BreakfastBurrito_007 @Ginnungagap, and any others that have good performance in a27.

  20. And more specifically - why not start with Brazil? When people think of ancient civilizations, they often picture grand stone cities and vast armies, and Brazilian indigenous groups around the 1st century don’t immediately come to mind. But here’s the thing: there were thriving, complex societies in the region, and some of them would make fantastic additions to the game. Take the Marajoara culture, for example. These people lived on Marajó Island and were anything but primitive. They built organized settlements, developed sophisticated agriculture, and produced some of the most intricate pottery in the pre-Columbian Americas. Imagine the stunning visual designs that could come from their artistic legacy! Another great candidate would be the Santarém culture (also known as the Tapajó people), who lived at the confluence of the Amazon and Tapajós rivers. They created elaborate ceramic art, had fortified villages, and developed complex social structures. And if you’re looking for a warrior society, the Tupi-Guarani peoples were already expanding across Brazil at the time, building palisaded villages and engaging in fierce territorial conflicts - perfect for a strategy game. Of course, the biggest challenge would be the lack of written records from these civilizations. But that’s where archaeology, anthropology, and even collaboration with indigenous communities could come in. There’s enough historical and material evidence to create a compelling and respectful interpretation of these societies, just like you’ve done with others in 0 A.D..

  22. Get new players to join and let's find out. Our main limitation is https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/issues/4203 right now. Without that, there is no real limitation of the number of concurrent players in the lobby, which can't be solved with some additional hardware.

  23. I see no problem with using the fasces, this is the appropriate place (the game) to represent them. Wanting to erase history is something serious and censorship of history is something typical of the novel 1984, if people knew and entered openly to know the history would not be forgotten. The issues will be talked about openly instead of falling into attacks with Ad hominem for example "white supremacists" or "racist" or "sexist". Most of them are unfounded attacks or without using correct terminology and many times hypocritical. There is a lot of ignorance and political propaganda with these terms. To rewrite history is to try to destroy it and to fall into ideological puritanical thinking.

  24. It's all fine and good as a fun mod, but then are you playing a Roman-themed game anymore at that point?

  25. Currently, 0 A.D. features 14 playable civilizations: Athenians, Britons, Carthaginians, Gauls, Han, Iberians, Kushites, Macedonians, Mauryas, Persians, Ptolemies, Republican Romans, Seleucids, and Spartans. Of these, nine are European (Athenians, Britons, Carthaginians, Gauls, Iberians, Macedonians, Republican Romans, Seleucids, and Spartans), two are Asian (Han and Mauryas), and two are African (Kushites and Ptolemies). At this time, the game does not include any American civilizations. It is long overdue for 0 A.D. to introduce at least one civilization from the Americas. The game does a fantastic job of representing ancient cultures across Europe, Asia, and Africa, but it lacks a crucial element of world history: the civilizations that thrived in the Americas during antiquity. The inclusion of an American civilization would not only add diversity to the game but also introduce unique gameplay mechanics and architectural styles inspired by pre-Columbian societies. Several civilizations from the Americas around the 1st century could be great candidates for 0 A.D.. The Maya had already begun forming city-states with impressive architecture and sophisticated governance. The Zapotecs of Monte Albán in present-day Mexico had a thriving society with writing, trade networks, and military advancements. The Moche civilization of Peru was developing large ceremonial centers and a warrior-based society. Any of these could offer a fresh and historically rich addition to the game, making the world of 0 A.D. even more immersive and representative of ancient global civilizations.

  26. Welcome to Achilles, Cúchulainn and Beowulf ? Because most of the evidence comes from the Monte Albán III, a phase which is labelled the "Golden Age" or the Classical period of the Zapotecs. Most of the previous buildings have been rebuilt several times. This is similar to Rome, almost all of the ancient Roman buildings still standing are from the imperial period.

  27. Civilizational development was higher by a large margin in certain regions of the word (Parts of Europe, North Africa, Middle East and East Asia) during the game's time frame and it matches that reality There are plenty of peoples in the same region that could still be added without nonsensical balancing, but yet "Nooooo, you should prioritize those guys with nice pottery in the Amazon [and somehow come up with equivalents for cavalry, ironworking, fortifications, etc] or else you are eurocentric!" If a game looks for historical accuracy, it has to be representative of the situation at the time, not distort it to please people's wishful thinking or minimize their self-pity Good lord, South Americans have to get over that delusion that other people are deliberately trying to downplay them. We have digged our own victimization holes
