  1. Well IMHO the whole (Spamming, Cheating, DDOSing) lobby debacle, and the lagging kinda proves the point. If 5 people can tank the multiplayer game are we really allowed to be called a beta? Or should we just target single player folks, in which case not having a campaign is kind of a no no ?

  2. I came across 0 A.D. several years ago and, as an Age of Empires fan, figured it would be neat to try. I saw that it was an "Alpha" though and so I didn't download it, figuring it would be buggy and incomplete. I decided that I would wait until it was at least a Beta version when I tried it. A few years later I came back to it, only to discover it was still Alpha. I was confused about there being so much progress though. I decided to download it and it looked playable. There were still rough edges, but about what I would expect for a Beta version. I talked to another person who said they too had heard about the game, but never tried it because they too were "waiting for the game to not be buggy". When I asked when they would know that would be, they said "1.0, or at least a beta". So the "Alpha" label scared me off from trying 0 A.D. for years and scared off another person I know from trying it at all. Now that there have been Alphas for all 26 letters of the English alphabet, maybe it's time to start releasing Betas? That would prevent new users like me from thinking that the game is still a buggy mess not ready for prime time.

  3. Furthermore, the "alpha" label is very repulsive for modders. There is nothing worse than spending time tracking patches for a mod. This issue is currently known from M&B Bannerlord and several big mods are complaining about the current development of the game that multiplied mod-breaking patches the last 6 months.

  5. Is this what you mean @Acanthis? It's the hotkey.session.pushorderfront hotkey, introduced in Alpha26. No additional mods needed for it. The hotkey is not assigned by default to any key combination, so it's available for rebinding. See here and here for development reference.

Here is the first 'Release Candidate' of Alpha 27 - Agni Downloads - Current bundles are for SVN revision r27645/bbae4080acaf09e2716cde8027c7a3c2cd3eaff4 Linux data and build Windows MacOS Builds currently unavailable due to signing issues. You can only test the installer but the game will not run. macOS (x64) macOS (ARM) Things to note: Mind your mods -> they might introduce issues or Out Of Sync. Save your A26 config file somewhere, ideally. or use -writableRoot. What changed: Alpha27 – Wildfire Games How to port my mod PortA26ToA27 – Wildfire Games What to do if I have an error or notice something weird? Post your commands.txt (replay) and the interestinglog.html file from your folder. You can also reply to this thread. What to do if the game crashes? Upload your crashlog.dmp and crashlog.txt see https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GameDataPaths What to do if I have an Out Of Sync? You should go in your logs folder, find the replay (commands.txt at least), the mainlog/interestinglog and find the OOS dump folder. Zip all these files and upload them here. We need the reports from two players to compare them: One OOS and one non-OOS players at least should upload their oos_dump files. 7. I see there are minimap icons now that show on unexplored areas of the minimap. The Roman minimap icon is a fasces: The fasces is an authentic symbol of ancient Rome, but extraordinary care is needed, because it is also a symbol of modern Italian fascism. Does this accurately depict an authentic Roman fasces and not a modern Italian fasces? It is necessary to find an authentic archaeological Roman fasces that matches the picture. I have doubts. The style of axe is nearly identical to the axe on the flag of Italian fascism. The axe head projects out of the top of the bundle, and it has the same shape of curved blade on the right, the same type of diamond-shaped spike on the left, and a square center-piece. Doing some google searches, I haven't been able to locate an authentic archaeological Roman fasces with those precise features on the axe. Therefore, unless such an example can be found, this minimap art is representative of specifically Italian fascism and needs to be changed. For comparison, here are some authentic Roman fasces:

  8. Yeah I have been a proponent of some kind of basic matchmaking for 1v1s. The ratings could then be directly tied to this. Ideally it won’t supplant organized rated games.

  9. I think 1v1s are less fun and less popular because the interaction of team bonuses is a good source of strategies and variability. Of course changes don't have to improve gameplay experience in only 1v1s or only tgs. I think civ and unit differentiation would help the 1v1 scene as well as tgs, for an example look no further than @real_tabasco_sauce's unit specific upgrades community mod patch that could be seen in the community mod for a27.

  11. Researchers Use AI to Read Ancient Mesopotamian Texts TEL AVIV, ISRAEL—Artnet News reports that artificial intelligence (AI) has been used by researchers from Tel Aviv University and Ariel University to translate ancient cuneiform texts from Mesopotamia into English. Luis Sáenz of Ariel University said that the use of AI is not intended to replace human scholarship, but could speed the process of translating the vast quantity of fragmentary texts in the Sumerian and Akkadian languages that have been recovered from archaeological sites. Artificial intelligence could eventually be used by Assyriologists and non-Assyriologists to read these texts, he added. “The future will require more tools to digitize data published in papers in order to keep training the model and to improve the results,” Sáenz concluded. Read the original scholarly article about this research in PNAS Nexus. 13. Most youtube videos about age of empires 2 games are 1v1s and most streams are dedicated to 1v1s. So there is a third option to play the game apart from single player and team games. Unfortunately, the game is not the best it could be for competitive 1v1s. Team games have lag and matchmaking issues. 1v1s lack a campaign or interesting AI for skirmishing mode. In this light, these two game modes shouldn't be a serious contender for 1v1 online matches. The developers need to ask what is it about the game that makes 1v1 online matches not much more popular/common than the currently are? Anyway, this is an unpopular opinion.

  15. Dude, could you try to stick to the topic at hand? The point being not to use the exact symbol the fascists used but another version of the fasces.

  17. Basically Vulkan should be more stable (aka, more stable framerate, less driver bugs) than OpenGL.

  18. Well for one, we shouldn't miss something like the bugged han farming techs from a26. I would say also that eles will need a rebalance of their splash damage. Balance concerns could certainly be addressed by the community mod, but it would be better to catch serious ones before release.

  23. I really like this site. https://www.archaeology.org/ Check out this news article. Ancient Buddha Statue Discovered in Egypt CAIRO, EGYPT—According to a Live Science report, a 1,900-year-old statue has been unearthed at Berenike, an ancient port city located in Egypt near the Red Sea. The statue depicts Siddhartha Gautama, who lived some 2,550 years ago in South Asia, and eventually became known as the Buddha, or “Enlightened One.” Steven Sidebotham of the University of Delaware said that the statue is about 28 inches tall, and shows the Buddha standing and holding parts of his robes in his left hand, while a halo behind him radiates sunlight. A separate Sanskrit inscription thought to date to the third century A.D. was also found at the site. The Buddha statue may have been made locally by South Asians living in Berenike, Sidebotham added, and could indicate that a South Asian merchant community lived in the area. To read about an animal necropolis uncovered at Berenike, go to "Around the World: Egypt." https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/ancient-egyptians/1st-century-buddha-statue-from-ancient-egypt-indicates-buddhists-lived-there-in-roman-times

  24. The reasoning for uploading this is not meant to shame Aqua in anyway, shape or form, rather the opposite. Anyone getting this impression, please take a moment to reflect as to "why" then. Top players of this game often remain focused on the other high skilled players at the top of the pyramid (as can be shown in the above posts) while players that are often overlooked might not be as adept, capable or experienced, but they exhibit greater character, determination and unwavering commitment to their teammates. Title of this thread is "Share your LocalRatings data". As an aside, "You come at the King, best not miss."
