Centurions added to the game for the Romans: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/changeset/274003 points

Your statement is uninformed and not helpful. @real_tabasco_sauce’s entire idea is to buff melee units. @borg- and I have proposed an alternative idea that could be used in conjunction with @real_tabasco_sauce’s idea or by itself. All share the common idea of buffing melee units. Your statement is the equivalent if the 300 pound sports fan yelling at a player to run faster—it isn’t helpful, it’s not telling anyone anything they don’t already know, and it’s negative towards the people who are actually trying to do something. Randomly dropping in to say “no” isn’t constructive discussion2 points

Sure, so maybe a new movement speed tech? Can help melee infantry engane on cavalry/range inf2 points

It would be interesting to have a rank 2 upgrade only for melee inf. They are weakeat units in game for a long time, so i think that helps balance things out.2 points

I'd say you put it right, it dilutes the concept. I think the player should instead use some ranged boats for sheltering melee boats from pursuing vessels. The system we are devising here should work well with a combination of ships.1 point

A free Scout Ship would be a really nice little feature. Every civ can get one, along with an Arrow Ship. Yeah, pretty much the same. I may suggest splitting the Dock into the Dock (economic) and Shipyard (naval), but that's a separate consideration. I'll see what I can do. Obviously there would need to be some modeling work, specifically to reduce the ship model sizes and make them less unwieldy.1 point

I like this quite a bit. I think the numbers will need to be adjusted a bit (it sounds like naval battles will be very quick otherwise), but I like the overall concepts. Also, I vote free scouting ship or to cut it all together. Lastly, I presume you would keep merchant and fishing ships the same? No objections from me, if so. Nice work! Edit: I know you've been working on ship art lately. Could you post the classes' corresponding art? It would be nice to get an idea of the relative sizes.1 point

The game is not this simple. It matters how you buff the melee infantry of course.1 point

Yeah, I’m just worried about it becoming a spam meta where mercs dominate. But, yeah, definitely something to try in the community, if there is interest1 point

Agree. If you decrease range it will have a whole series of cascading impacts, such as turtling becoming much stronger.1 point

I would be happy with this to be honest. Then the carthage team bonus could be changed. Maybe this would be something to experiment with in the community mod as well.1 point
-
I agree for the most part, but the changes aren't massive and can be tweaked or changed if necessary quite easily.1 point
-
Sorry to say, but this should have been split into five patches. A patch that reads as squash unrelated changes is plain awful.1 point
-
How could you say that? That makes no sense. Stop with the negativity at least until you see the gitlab branch.1 point

I can't put my finger on it, but EA's version of mercenaries feels feature-incomplete to me.1 point

https://code.wildfiregames.com/D4877 the rest of the community mod features.1 point

I think this would partially invalidate the value of infantry mercenaries. I would rather melee inf be more impactful in the first place (not just meatshield, but actually dealing damage). I have an idea for this and I will make a MR for it in the a27 community mod.1 point

What concerns me most about the game is that Romans develop almost the same as the barbarians. I can't really say that Romans in the game feel like an urban and more "civilized" faction.1 point

How come most of the animals are not in the github repo for this mod? I was really hoping to use them in maps.1 point

i have some suggestions for what animals could be represented in the game myself. there will be some overlap here, and some could be added at later times rather than all at once depending on the environment (for example, its not really necessary to include latin american animals since the game largely takes place in the old world). i'll be listing these all the same, though some would be infeasible (im just listing them from my source): Rattlesnake Pronghorn American Bison Two-Toed Sloth Marmoset Crested Seriema Mole Rat Beaver Fallow Deer Giraffe Gorilla African Elephant Tiger Tarsier Peafowl Greater Bird of Paradise Red Kangaroo Platypus Peccary Raccoon Llama Armadillo Opossum Chimpanzee Rhinoceros Antelope Squirrel Colugo Cockatoo Cassowary Tree Kangaroo Polar Bear Orca Blue Whale Crabeater Seal Leopard Seal Emperor Penguin Raven Arctic Fox Capercaillie Snowy Owl Brown Lemming Arctic Skua Musk Ox Brent Goose Rock Ptarmigan Arctic Hare Wolf Wolverine Caribou Woodchuck White-tailed Deer American Black Bear European Badger Red Fox Aurochs European Wood Bison European Hare Guanaco Saiga Springhaas Plains Wolf Coyote Maned Wolf Prairie Dog Pampas Cat Tawny Eagle Red-tailed Hawk Prairie Falcon Sage Grouse Black Grouse Roadrunner Dromedary Camel Bactrian Camel Addax Dorcas Gazelle Great Horned Owl Gila Monster Eland Wildebeest Grant's Zebra Topi Thomson's Gazelle Lion Leopard Cheetah African Wild Dog Jackal Spotted Hyena White-Backed Vulture Ostrich Secretary Bird Aardwolf Aardvark Shoebill Stork Goliath Heron Sitatunga Hippopotamus Crowned Eagle Sacred Langur Royal Python Orangutan Tree Pangolin Orange-Rumped Agouti Forest Buffalo Okapi Tapir Wild Pig Yak Snow Leopard Blue Sheep Asiatic Black Bear Rocky Mountain Goat Red Panda Amazonian Manatee African Spoonbill Spectacled Caiman however, given this list, another thing that i would recommend is replacing as many of these animals as possible with collective versions instead of so many specific species. for example, instead of having one specifically called "American Black Bear" or "Bengal Tiger", there can just be generic "Bear" and "Tiger" so that those can be considered to encompass all sorts of similarly sized and related animals, even if its technically inaccurate. alternatively, maybe some animals can have different textures depending on the dominant biome in an area, so tigers in a predominantly winter-styled map would resemble siberian tigers instead of bengals also, i think some generic prehistoric animals would be good for design purposes. namely: Seymouria (?) Scutosaurus Dimetrodon Lystrosaurus (?) Corythosaurus/Hadrosaurus Deinonychus/Utahraptor Brachiosaurus/Apatosaurus Struthiomimus Tyrannosaurus Triceratops Plesiosaurus Rhamphorhynchus (cosmetic) ideally, there would be representation of at least one animal from every major group of dinosaurs and other notable prehistoric animals (which i would be happy to look into if anyone else likes it, being a paleo-nerd myself) but these twelve (perhaps replacing a few of them) would be the more important ones. alternatively, a prehistoric animal list could be compiled based on old fiction (like Doyle's original Lost World). and this doesnt even mention animals that died out more recently i could also compile lists of plant life that could be included, if anyone's interested1 point
