I think the A25 release candidate could benefit a lot from feedback gained by playing a "competitve" Teamgame. Who would be in at Sunday 19 CET ? @borg_ @Feldfeld @chrstgtr @Stockfish @ffffffff@nani@Pudim@JC (naval supremacist)@Yekaterina@carthage@BoredRusher@Boudica@vinme@Dakara@Dizaka@faction02@cl2488@Jofursloft@Wendy22@badosu and all the others i forgot or cant find on Forum (pls inform) Should be fun and A25 looks really nice. If you dont have A25 and dont know how to get it check out this thread with detailed instructions. Make sure to update to the latest version Thanks for taking notice and see you on Sunday4 points

@wowgetoffyourcellphone, @Stan`, @Freagarach and @Trinketos thanks a bunch guys, with your helpful comments I was able to make, not only the auras and portraits for units and techs but also most of the unique techs of my modest Syracuse mod.3 points

Someone made a UI redesign mockup of the grandfather of RTS: Dune II. Some good UI ideas here. More here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/102033829/DUNE-II-Reimagined2 points

Some alphas are good. Some are less good. I don’t think anyone responsible for the less good alphas thought they were putting out a bad product. Also while a24 may have been heavily influenced by individual MPs, the changes largely did not address things that the MP community thought were problems. When those “problems” were “fixed” unintended side effects were introduced. to be honest, I don’t think there is or should be a dichotomy between SP and MP. Their priorities are just different with MP just wanting something balanced and SP tending to just want something that looks and feels great with cool features. Those two aren’t sets of preferences mutually exclusive. Mods are notoriously difficult to get people to adopt. When you need to get 8 people to simultaneously adopt one then it becomes basically impossible. This is why SPs tend to play with more mods than MPs.2 points

Perhaps we can use Mainland, but completely flat without any change in terrain. Also we can use one brown cylinder to represent trees/wood, grey and gold blocks to represent stone, alongside an option to disable ambient animations and animal animations. Maybe such a simple model would reduce the processing necessary? We can even implement Minecraft-like graphics option, perhaps cubes take less processing than rounded shapes. I am not joking, this could seriously be an option for big team games.2 points

I guess it would be perfect if @Stan`would happen to have the RC3 ready by then... gl&hf to all participants1 point

I can make it. Are we testing RC2 or should we try to build a more recent version ourselves?1 point

Already have other plans, otherwise I would've been interested. Have fun.1 point

Hi all Also, having an upper limit for frames per seconds should help about power consumption and heat. options => graphic general => FPS limit in the game. That's a bit extreme but I double checked in a replay and due to not having a good enough CPU, when the game does many things, I can get down to 4 FPS for extended periods of time. And I'm not feeling it! I can focus on managing an attack and economy. I suppose that depends on the person. So maybe you can try and see if a lower than 30 FPS limit will keep the game enjoyable. Anyway, great job for the developer that made the controls & stuff not being impacted by the number of FPS of the game. Does the relief of the map impacts performance? That could seriously be nice. It could still be visually enjoyable. Like in Minecraft/Minetest, it's the art style that matters the most. And even without yet a well refined art style, the option would be worth it. For big team games and low specs PCs. It's like if 0ad would more look like a tabletop game which is fine. It depends on the big picture of the house consumption. Check the bill would allow to check if there is something to actually gain by paying attention to the PC consumption. A low gaming time VS the other uses of the PC would make the power usage when gaming irrelevant. As well as having hot water heated with electricity, and electric heaters or air conditioning.1 point

The reason A25 is faster is not because of this. It's because of pathfinder threading and graphics optimizations. The threading absorbs the pathfinder lag spikes in the late game and instead dispatches them on all your cores. Mp turns are reduced to 200 ms which means the game don't take half a second to process commands but instead a fifth like it's always been the case in SP. The DDOs issue might have been reduced by the lack of players however we made it much harder to get an IP without joining a match in A24. Maybe the script kiddie was only on the lobby server and did not join individual matches. Currently, no. Unless you use linux or mac.1 point

8) Ratings are nuts. If you are new and are looking for a similar opponent, you might run into a veteran who is 1200 simply because he never plays rated games. If you are 1400 you will nicely run into smurfs. I had good RTS experience(I used to esimate myself to be in the top 10% online competitive age of Empires 2 players) and even lost 5 out of my first 6 games. I practised in SP first, challenged some 1200 players first and still had a rough start. However it is easy for me to imagine other people just quitting the game.1 point

There is a ticket by @Langbart IIRC. Okay, I'll consider it then. For the tips it's pretty straightforward to add. Most of those I know including some of the youtubers actually don't get on the forums because they find it clikey not inclusive and sometimes toxic. Sure not but if it's people you never saw on the lobby they might have played some other ways. Some people miss the mods in A24 which were what was probably attracting them too. So yeah it's really probable we can't keep people around. Because of lag and maybe balancing. I hope A25 will be good enough to keep people around until A26.1 point

Jim and Tom seem not to be publishing a lot of youtube videos lately. I posted a video with making a tier list in mind. This video was to compare Kushites and Ptolemies and whether the belong in the same 1v1 mainland tier. I have also found an excuse for my stuttering speech/pronunciation, since I wanted to turn watching in an active engagement.1 point

That's not entirely true Rendering Simulation (e.g. gathering / attacking) Pathfinder. Map size and max pop affect 1 2 3 (More units, more things to draw → Rendering, more things to compute for unit activity → Simulation, Bigger maps = longer paths, more complex ones).1 point

i'm thinking about reducing the power and saving the CPU. In the last public online talk with Stan I heard that you can lower the graphics settings more precisely in A25. Very good. i heard to most costs is : - path finding - and the size of the map, size of max Pop. are the some other attribute we maybe could change?0 points
