  1. Age of Mythology does have shared population and shared resources and is very fun to play, so why not?

  2. Aaaaaaaand, you have my attention! What time period exactly is your mod? It seems to cover 2000 years at least... Ethiopia has about 3000 years of continuous history, so that shouldn't be an issue. Just to wet the appetite a little:

  3. Is there an option to set the population cap via team and not via player? Is this planned for a future release? Thanks in advance and thanks for this great game :)

  4. Hi Alexander! First of all well done! 1. İn terms of behavior it would be a special combat unit, the special thing about it, would be a charge ability that would knock enemies back, so if possible, can a charge animation be made? 2. Forgive me if I am wrong, by props you mean their armor right? In that case, it would have a helmet like the one in your animations and light armor on its torso like an Archer or light calvary unit would have. 3. For the melee centaur, a spear and shield would be used, however if the shield looks awkward, then it can be left out. For the ranged centaur, it would use a bow (I contemplated a javelin but a bow fits better imo). 4. A light trot should work fine as a default walk. 5. İt would be a champion soldier (so no resource gathering). 6. İt would level up, start of poorly armored with a light helmet and breastplate but become increasingly heavily armored (within reason though), of course the melee centaurs would resemble hoplites slighty when fully promoted and the ranged ones would resemble greek archers when fully upgraded. 7. No, they would use a regular spear, shield and bow respectively, perhaps slighty larger due to their size (whatever looks fitting of course). Sorry for the late reply and long answer, I hope this answers your questions! Thank you very much!

  5. Siege warfare itself is way to complicated to depict realistically in a classic RTS game to begin with. But I do think 0AD can do better. I'm no expert, but to my knowledge what the video is saying seems correct. Siege warfare in reality evolved around actually besieging your enemy, preventing them from leaving their position and preventing them from being resupplied, with the intention of starving them into submission, or preventing them from accessing clean water. This process could easily take months, or even years. Actual attacks on the walls included sapping the walls (tunneling) and using ladders and movable towers to reach the top of the walls. The construction of elevated ramps higher than the walls, to be able to shoot down on the defenders is also a recurring thing. Gates are usually the "vulnerable" spots, which means they were usually extra fortified. Attempts would be made to ram down the gates, or burn them down. But none of this is easy... It's a recurring thing in history that gates were breached only after defending guards were bribed. Most battering rams, siege towers, other catapults and elephants were pretty useless against well designed walls as well. It's just an RTS abstraction, to keep things playable.

  7. For me it is absolutely not a problem. Spearman, swordsman, cavalry, skirmisher, slinger... these are very common in any "barbarian" culture. But if they have all the same roster and that currently the same stats for each type, it could become boring. I don't know if you are talking about the vanilla game or about a mod. Is it more balanced like this? Different starting units but with the town phase they are more similar with their new units. Gallic roster: Village Swordman - Cingetos (generic term for warrior fighting in the front line). Javelin skirmisher - Bagauda (bellicose/fighter), Talanos (support person). or Adretos (who moves fast, attacker). Sword cavalry - Eporedos (cavalryman). Town Champion naked warrior (spearman) - Bariogaisatos (furious spearman). Fast and scary for fresh recruit (bonus against basic version of units ?) Spearman - Ambactos (who-is-around, attested word from Caesar for Gallic retinue and clients). Slinger - Telmiuicos (slinger), Uassos (meaning servant/vassal) or Talanos (supportive person). City Champion sword horseman - Comaterecos (patrician) or Uerouicos (victorious warrior, great fighter) Archer - Selgos (hunter) - Archers. Upgrade for the slinger? Champion Lance cavalry - Epouanos (horse-killer). Anti-cavalry special unit. Brythonic roster: Village Spearman - Catucos (combatant), Batacos (combatant) or Batoros (who-hit-hard, fighter). Javelin skirmisher - Bagauda (bellicose/fighter), Talanos (support person). or Adretos (who moves fast, attacker). Light cavalry with javelins - Gaisaredos (Javelin on horse, mounted), Gaisatoredos (Javelinist on horse), Adretos (who moves fast, attacker) or Bagauda (attested for horsemen as well during the Gallo-Roman rebellion). Town Slinger - Telmiuicos (slinger), Uassos (meaning servant, attested word) or Talanos (support person). Lance cavalry - Marcacos (cavalryman). Marcos is another word for the horse, more common in the island than in the continent. Swordman - Batoros (who-hit-hard, fighter) or Excingos (attacker, who-get-out-to-fight). The Caledonians are described as using longswords and small shield and the Picts are described fighting naked. War-Dogs - Agrocuna (battle/bloody/killer dog) City Champion chariot warrior - Esseda (war chariot). The Britons use war chariots with a driver and an elite warrior, they throw javelins from it and continue the fight on foot (possibility for the unit to transport one infantryman ?) Champion swordsman - Argos (battle champion, noble), Donnouicos (noble warrior, noble fighter) or Adscoros (attendant, retainer). Champion skirmisher infantryman - Caur (old-Irish for champion) or Art (old-Irish for champion and bear). A propose an Irish elite javelinist, with a historical irish shortsword. If the double weapons switch is implanted, it could be an interesting unit. Polyvalent.

  8. i have a few questions since the centaur is pretty much done. What are the centaur behavior you have in mind? What are the props they will use? What would be the weapons they use? What would be their default walking animation? What would be their class (Champ - Citizen Soldier)? Would the centaurs have experience and level up? Would the centaurs use special weapons? For now i have ready animations for basic weapons such as: Bow, Javelin, Spear 1H. 2 Death animation 2 Walking animation (Ready - Relax) 1 Trot animation Generic 1 Jog animation 1 Gallop animation generic 1 Promotion animation 1 Pray animation 13 Idle animation ( Ready Bow, Ready Jav, Ready Hoplite, Ready Spear Shield, Relax, Carry Meat) 1 Attacking stab animation with shield 1 Attacking Jav animation 2 Attacking Bow animation (Hip, Back) TODO: More attacking animation for spear shield Attacking animation for sword and axe Attacking animation for 2h Weapons Carry animations for Wood, Stone/Metal, Berrys Seeding animations.

  9. Having a 256x512 texture sound fine. You will need different variant of the mesh for flaps skirts and stuff.

  10. @wackyserious @Sundiata @stanislas69 what could be the best UV usage for the centaur? for now i'm just thinking on two options. Mix the mesh and make the texture of the human body and the horse as this Reusing actual textures for some as posible: Or make as separated mesh but used together as root prop like the rider but the human body and the horse keeping his UV as it is now. Animations done so far: 4 Idle_Relax. 4 Idle_Ready_Bow Trot Gallop Walk_Relax Attack_Long Bow_shoot_Hip/Back Promotion In case someone wonder, horse armors can be used as long as they are exported again with the centaur armature:

  11. Ok, then I understand better. I was trying to do something simpler to not make Celts OP for the others factions. What about a choice of regional champions for the Gauls? Gauls roster: Village Swordman - Cingetos (generic term for warrior fighting in the front line). Javelin skirmisher - Bagauda (bellicose/fighter) Lance cavalry - Excingos (attacker, who-get-out-to-fight). Town Champion naked warrior (spearman) - Bariogaisatos (furious spearman). Fast and scary for fresh recruit (bonus against basic version of units ?) Sword cavalry - Eporedos (cavalryman). Spearman - Ambactos (who-is-around, attested word from Caesar for Gallic retinue and clients). Slinger - Telmiuicos (slinger) City Champion sword horseman - Comaterecos (patrician) Archer - Selgos (hunter) - Archers. Upgrade for the slinger? One champion chosen by the player from this list during the third phase: Champion Lance cavalry - Epouanos (horse-killer). Anti-cavalry special unit. Regional Celto-Germanic. Champion Swordsman - Soliduros (Bodyguard). Regional Aquitanian. Champion Axeman - Namantobogios (smasher of enemies). Regional Rhaetian (eastern alp). Based on an unique find, difficult to interpret.

  12. Axumites or Kushites , or Medieval Ethiopians?

  13. This is a hard one. If I do a backward construction from the Irish "dealbh", it should be something like "deluos".

  14. I think the Kushite boats should be about the size of the Ptolemaic merchant ship, maybe slightly bigger.

  15. Any ideas what the Gauls and Britons would call a statue or cult image? Thinking of Delenda Est's Cult Statue building, where units praise and gather the Glory resource.

  16. Those Ptolemaic obelisks are a lot smaller (the one in the Met is under 2 m; the Philae obelisk is under 4 m); functionally they were similar to other Ptolemaic steles such as the Rosetta stone.
    1 point
  17. The obelisks aren't the problem, it's the civic center itself. It looks like a serious misinterpretation of a temple's pylon. In the Ptolemaic Dynasty, obelisks continued to be made, and old ones re-used, both large and small. https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/565085 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philae_obelisk Pliny apparently even describes Ptolemy II erecting an obelisk... So in short, the obelisks are fine.

  18. A few suggestions: enable workshops for all factions (D1761) enable cavalry stables for all factions enable elephant stables for all relevant factions disable “hellenic royal stoa” create a palace structure for mace, ptol, and sele (maur and pers already have one) make the fortress a purely defensive structure, unable to research or train anything give fortresses a territory root (D1762) move city walls to city phase
