  1. Hello guys, this is my first message in this forum and it will be my first contribution to the 0ad community. First of all I'd like to thank to everyone for creating this great game. I have started developing ArchMod to improve 0ad gaming experience according to my expectations from an RTS game. In addtion, I would like to improve current PetraBot AI as an alternative AI bot. I never think to replace the current PetraBot AI. Actually, I was very surprised when I saw only PetraBot in my first installation of this game. I think there should be many different AI bots. I would like to create a new AI called ArchBot for this purpose. Of course, my starting point is PetraBot Installation: After extracting the compressed file to the data/mods path, you can easily install it from Mod Selection section. ArchMod-0.3 [ ArchMod 0.2 + Game Modes ] : ArchMod-0.3.tar.gz Now you can play 0ad in different Game Modes like as in Civilization. This option changes only tech costs, tech upgrade time and correspondingly barter trading mechanism. ArchMod-0.2 [ ArchMod 0.1 + Extra Options ] : ArchMod-0.2.tar.gz Bug fixes, Zero starting resources, Gigantic map size and extra game speed options. ArchMod-0.1 Initial Release Announcement [ AI Handicap ]: ArchMod-0.1.tar.gz Most of the RTS games use AI cheating for harder AIs. I don't like to play against these cheating codes. I think good AIs should beat even expert users without any extra bonus. ( I have started to contribute AI development by forking Petra as Arch Bot.) I think instead of embedding in AI difficulty, AI bonus/penalty setting should be a separate option like AI difficulty. Therefore, I have created an extra option called "AI Handicap" for AI players. I wish the developers will add this new feature to the next release I've kept default penalty settings for AIs easier than Medium AI, but I fixed bonus rates to 1 for other AI levels. In addition, I've added 10 more Very Hard AI levels for AI development and called them as Insane AI levels ( I - X ). These levels are also playable with default AI PetraBot, just an AI index increment. Installation: After extracting the compressed file to the data/mods path, you can easily install it from Mod Selection section. ArchMod-0.3 ( ArchMod-0.2 + Bug fixes, Different Game Modes ) ArchMod-0.3.tar.gz ArchMod-0.2 ( ArchMod-0.1 + Bug fixes, Zero starting resources, Gigantic map size and extra game speed options ) ArchMod-0.2.tar.gz ArchMod-0.1 (Initial Release, AI Handicap Setting & Insane AI levels) ArchMod-0.1.tar.gz

  3. Greetings It's been about 2 years in the procrastinating but I've finally launched my Youtube Channel aimed at newer, less experienced 0AD players. The idea is to feature a match each week, highlighting some of the basics, plus the basic errors that most of have made early in our development (am still making in my case!) I've got enough material for the first three episodes but I'm probably going to need a few submissions from players to keep it fresh and interesting. So I'm hoping a few of you good people can help. I have some base requirements; 1) The caliber of players Ideally looking for matches with players rated from low to about 1400, although if there is a great tactic on show, some truly incredible action and drama, I'll certainly consider submissions from higher rated players.Ideally though I'm looking for matches between players still somewhat finding their way. Some moments of tactical greatness are welcome, but it's a warts'n'all thing - I'm looking for people making errors and blunders as well. The perfect games will be where there are lessons to be learned and good points for new players watching to take away and work with, but packaged in an essentially exciting game. 2) No silly walk over victories I'm not talking about a good early rush that ends a game early, I want those! I mean the games where a player spends the whole game building up an impressive force, only to find the opponent has done nothing but chop down a single tree! Or built a fence! The caveat to this would probably be team games - I don't mind the odd game where maybe one of the players is genuinely clueless but the others are going for it! 3) Be nice! The aim is not to make an opponent look thoroughly foolish 4) Replays of under an hour Most of the replays will be broadcast at insane speed, so anything under an hour fits nicely as a full episode, however I'll waive this is if the game is genuinely seat of your pants exciting. 5) Replay files If you can PM me a link where I can download the files that would be awesome. I'm on a Windows PC, and forgive my ignorance - I've no idea if the replay files for Mac or Linux users are essentially identical and cross platform, but assuming they are - all are welcome. Now, I've deliberately not spammed this topic with details of the channel as no-one appreciates people who use forums as gratuitous personal advertising opportunities, but if you do want to check it out, search on Youtube for 0AD Newbie Rush and you'll find the first episode that went live last Sunday. Many thanks for your time Jim

  5. I agree, it's an old thread and the post reviving this discussion (which is now hidden btw, if you disagree you can pm me) wasn't very constructive. I'm locking this thread

  6. Regardless of my opinion on this issue, and I have one, I don't think we gain much by having this discussion. Let's keep what is working without drama pls

  7. The warfare The Aztec armies had a high level of organization and ordering for combat. The men were divided into squadrons of 200 to 400 warriors commanded by a captain, who wore a large flag on his back to be able to distinguish himself on the battlefield. The chief of the state was the tlatoani, and almost at his level was the cihuacoatl who shared with him the tasks of government. The tlacochcálcatl and the tlacatéccatl were great generals, whose functions included advising the tlatoani on matters of government and declarations of war, presiding over military tribunals, governing the garrisons that the empire established in border areas, and, of course, leading and directing Military campaigns There is much difficulty in clearly discerning the chain of command in the Aztec army. Good (2009a) considers that: The Tlacochcálcatl had greater responsibility, since he guarded the armory and, furthermore, after the victory against the Tepanecas, when the Aztecs distributed dignities and rewards, Tlacaelel was granted this appointment and Moctezuma Ilhuicamina the one of tlacatéccatl, and it is known that at that time Tlacaelel had more political weight than Moctezuma I in the government of Itzcoatl. It is even possible that just as in the government the tlatoani and the cihuacoatl were almost equal, there are those who speak of even government, perhaps that dual reflex was also repeated in the military sphere, with the charges of tlacochcálcatl and tlacatéccatl. (P.14) The declaration of war corresponded to the ruler or tlatoani, who, having met with his Council, sent messengers to the target province to warn of their hostile intentions. This one had two options: to remain under the Mexica orbit without fighting and accepting, through the diplomatic channel, the imposition of the tribute or to collect the glove and to fight. In this case the tlatoani made a public appeal to the neighborhoods or calpulli that had their squadrons ready for battle (Bueno, 2009b, 186). Uniforms and Orders The generic name for the costume they wore in battle was tlahuiztli. When ascending on merit, they were allowed to use in the battle a ichcahuipilli or cotton armor and a ponytail with a tuft collected on the crown. This protective garment had the great advantage of being lightweight, which allowed for greater mobility in combat while protecting the warrior from a good part of projectiles, arrows and contusion weapons (Cervera, 2008) The ordinances dictated by Moctezuma I established the distinction of the combatants by the use of costumes, badges, emblems, arms and hairstyles corresponding to certain type of warrior. These divisions could respond to different degrees, tactical units, or even ethnic affiliation. The costumes of the nobles were elaborated with expensive and exclusive materials that the commoners could not use, mainly feathers. Violating these standards was punishable by death (Bueno, 2012). Within the hierarchical Mexican military structure, there were diverse classifications that reflected to a great extent the social status of the combatants from their origin and the merits that they had obtained in the battles. Each military order had a particular garment that referred to attributes and symbols of certain gods, and in many cases were based on representative totemic animals that conferred their qualities to the warriors. These suits were placed on top of the cotton armor which, along with the impressive plumes of feathers over their heads, gave them a formidable image in front of the enemy. Among the most important orders are the eagle or cuautli warriors; The jaguar or ocelotl warriors; Coyotes, otomies, among others. They enjoyed tax breaks and other privileges (Bueno, 2009a, pp. 17-18). Among the nobles were also the priests who, instructed in the calmecac, formed an important part of the imperial troops. They led the army, bearing the images of the protective gods, but not only were they limited to that, but they fought in battles and ascended the ladder by demonstrating their skill in combat, although apparently they needed more merits than the rest Of the noble warriors to obtain the same degrees. They were also responsible for "seizing" the gods of the vanquished peoples, to locate them in the temple that had been built in Tenochtitlan for this purpose (Bueno, 2009a, p.15).

  11. Very much thank you for your hard work hopefully Angen will look at it this indeed will be very useful if you want you can also improve ai with other developers through patches put on phabricator for 0.24 version, it might many times speed up reviewing and inclusion btw some mods such as Hyrule Conquest by @The Undying Nephalim and @Exodarion do their own ai because of specific or unique requirements of those factions. BTW there is also https://code.wildfiregames.com/D2199 . Hope you will stop by IRC channel in 0ad-dev so others can talk to you about future improvemens for AI. Polite ping @Angen @wraitii

  15. I understand that you see the victory in the attached replay as a matter of luck, @JC (naval supremacist), and I see that as a sign of your weak understanding of what happened in the game. An experienced player can guess the probable outcome based on the initial state of that game. Don't worry, the problem isn't with me not understanding what you mean by "luck can happen". I actually made my conclusion based on that statement. Perhaps it was you who didn't understand that we aren't using just the binary end result of the team game to compare 1-vs.-1 skills, but rather how the players did within that game. Funny enough, your other post is even more off-topic and also full of contradictions. You keep talking about some supposed hate, but explain to me how some games I played weeks ago with a player not present in this conversation is any relevant to this particular topic? You devote several paragraphs to first tell us how it's below your standards to comment or make conclusions from those games, yet you still do both in the same post. There is another paradox with the example you gave, namely that I didn't chicken out of those games. I even reinstalled the game after a few weeks of not playing it, got the right mod and took part in the games I promised to play. I accepted the results without excuses, which makes it a completely different story from yours, which was full of lame excuses and later shouting "only 1v1 matters" as if repeating it more and in different threads had any chance of making that true. So in conclusion, you aren't defending anyone, because you don't bring anything relevant to this discussion. You are only constantly steering the discussion off topic, which makes me decide to stop responding further to your irrelevant comments instead of just reporting them. Regarding your attempt to be funny with meme pictures, that image could work well if used in the right context. I often add reactions to post to avoid spamming the thread with extra comments. I give different kind of reactions, not based on who wrote them, but purely on the content. If you feel like receiving mostly the confused reaction, it can be a sign that your posts are confusing. I devoted most of this post to explaining why I thought so in this case. Needless to say that it wasn't just me who had the same reaction to your post. Maybe just stop taking this personally and accept that your post sucks.

  17. Not necessarily accurate but it gives an idea how it could have been. Although the symbolic depiction of the lion skin is maybe probably mythological. Edit: Different coins minted by Alexander and his successors: https://www.coinarchives.com/a/results.php?search=Alexander+the+Great+&s=0&results=100 https://www.moderncoinmart.com/info-vault/articles/coins-of-alexander-the-great.html https://coinsweekly.com/the-coins-of-alexander-iii-the-great-of-macedonia/

  19. Nice... Wouldn't it make a little more sense to give them a higher metal loot when killing units, destroying structures or especially when sinking enemy ships? Ooooh, or give them some kind of unique wololooo ability to "convert" enemy ships when they're under a certain health?
