0 A.D. is a game of war, not of admiring nature, think about that (I'll elaborate a bit more in the infinite farming thread)
-
Most matches should be over well before 3 hours. I don't mean that the game shouldn't be possible to play for 3 hours or more, just that it's not a priority to implement something that will not be seen in most games. Also, I haven't really seen any convincing arguments why this would be a good idea/improve gameplay, or even be realistic. I can't say I'm an expert, but I don't know any examples of any significant forest plantation in this era. Rather the opposite, though most of the deforestation might have been before the game's time period.

You have far more skills than I do, that's a start So keep at it, you need to do things which go beyond what you are comfortable with to improve your skills after all
-
And how would that help you improve? I think from what I can tell that you have a good set of skills already, so I suggest you see this as a chance to develop them further

Not sure how much is relevant, but it's about the Sea peoples: http://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/cms/karwansaray/ancient-warfare/about/readmore-aw/8-ancient-warfare/ancient-warfare-blog/300-studying-the-sea-peoples.html

The Centurion: Countermeasures Against Infinite Farming
feneur replied to Romulus's topic in General Discussion
To me the main argument pro having infinite farms is that it removes micromanagement in the late game: when you have to manage up to 300 units it can make a big difference if you have to go back to your farmers to make sure that your farms haven't run fallow. It could of course be slightly lessened with a reseed queue like in AoK:TC, but you would still have to keep checking back to make sure it wasn't empty. Another way to do it would of course be to make the reseeding automatic, however that would remove the direct control from the user (minor issue true, but infinite farms doesn't have that issue). A question: do you actually want to influence the game or just argue a theoretical point? If the latter that's fine, but you have to forgive others for understanding it as being about the actual game and argue accordingly. If the former it would be beneficial to your cause if you would allow the discussion to be relevant to the game and not just include the arguments you personally deem relevant. I'll say what I've said before and most likely will say again: This is a game, not a simulation. Or in other words: We have to consider things both from a historical point of view and a gameplay point of view, and it's the latter which is predominant. And just to illustrate that it's not just my own personal opinion allow me to quote from the official vision document that has been guiding 0 A.D. for years: and more specifically: Now, I'm not a native English speaker, so allow me to deconstruct the above sentence. "The point laymans terms", I assume you mean "The point in layman's terms", which definitely is understandable, but seeing as you argue about language it merits being mentioned. "The point [...] is the way we interact in a strategic way against either AI or humans." So in other words, the point of your arguments is that we interact strategically with either AIs or humans and that it's important to you that this interaction is historically accurate? -
Alpha 16 Wishlist/General discussion
feneur replied to Lion.Kanzen's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
It's not an issue for us as we use SourceForge to host the downloads (excluding the ones available via the different Linux distros + we do have it up on Indiedb as well) and they have a ton of mirrors, so bandwidth is not an issue. -
The Centurion: Countermeasures Against Infinite Farming
feneur replied to Romulus's topic in General Discussion
It could still be on/off, the main idea is after all to make the area around the CC valuable for other things than farms, not to make it more valuable just right next to it. Though to me the easiest way to do things would be to increase the size of farms considerably. That would both make it less beneficial to build right next to the CC and make raiding them easier as it would be harder to fully protect them with walls/towers/fortresses. -
Also, try to host using the Lobby, as long as your router is reasonably modern it should still be possible. It might take a couple of tries though as the system isn't perfect/still needs to be improved upon

There is no Iberian wonder in the game yet, and actually that's true for a few more civilizations: those which doesn't have a wonder of their own modeled yet use a placeholder (they need to have something as we have the wonder victory condition in SVN now). So not a bug, but just a missing model/texture

Short answer: No. cc-by-sa only requires you to tell who did it, and let others use the content you have created with it, while by-nc-sa disallows commercial use as well. The more complicated answer is what Sander posted above, it's possible to do it (perhaps allow people to download the music separately or something), but it's more difficult than using content which is available under the same license.

Indeed It's definitely better than nothing though =) True, I just mean that if you (you as in the plural you, not you individually) pay attention to what you write it will be easier for everyone to read. Also you might learn more as time goes by = you will write better/more easily understood English later if you pay extra attention to what you (and others) write now

Norton Antivirus Tags 0 A.D. 0.0.15 Alpha uninstall.exec as a Trojan.
feneur replied to Theokritos's topic in Bug reports
I doubt there's anything we can do about this, however there should be some kind of function in the Antivirus software where you can "Report false positive"/Send in file to be evaluated or something similar so they can change their detection so it doesn't falsely report 0 A.D. as a virus. -
AIs are not as featured as playing against human opponents, they will most likely always be a couple of versions behind on new features, and more complicated things (diplomacy should definitely be considered difficult) will probably take even longer. (Also, please read through what you have written before you hit the "Post" button. There are several words in this post where I'm sure you know how to write the word, but it looks as if you just wrote it too fast and didn't go back to check that what you have written is written correctly/makes sense. If you do this it will be a lot easier to understand what you mean )

That shouldn't matter, I'm using a 64-bit system myself and 0 A.D. runs fine. I would guess it's more likely that it's the download that isn't completed properly. Have you tried selecting another mirror on Sourceforge?

Romans need a little bit of rethinking for balance purposes.
feneur replied to Dancing's topic in Help & Feedback
Just got a question asking what I meant by this. In case someone else wonders too I'll put it here as well: The siege walls have had their crush armor reduced to be the same amount as the ordinary walls (previously it was 10 while it was 5 for ordinary walls, now it's 5 for both). Any further changes either way will require more playtesting -

I'll lock this thread since it's just getting off-topic and being more about throwing insults at other players, something we don't want to see in these forums. Also, the dev team is now aware of it and steps have been taken to correct it. -
Wonder is in SVN (i.e. to be included in the next Alpha).

This topic was getting slightly off-topic in parts, so I've created a separate topic for more general discussion: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18030 Please use that for any non-planning discussion.

Well, I would try using one of the existing animations first There are plenty of existing animations after all Maybe look at what animations cavalry units use?

Shader programming: where to start?
feneur replied to niektb's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
We could enable more file formats, but I'm generally against it - it's better if people put their files in ZIPs/7zips/GZs/some compressed format as that takes up less space on the servers/is quicker for people to download -
No, before we start working on part 2 we will go through first beta phase, and then have a final game, then we'll start working on the second part. If there's enough interest in the Thebans, perhaps they will be added, but apart from that it's very unlikely that there will be any new civs in part 1 apart from Seleucids.
-
(Personally I would have preferred to have just one sound for reaching phase 1, and one for reaching phase 2, for all civs. Having one of each for each civilization makes it harder to actually know/recognize what they mean - you have to relearn it for each civilization. But the consensus previously seems to be that we should do things uniquely for the different civs as often as possible, so I'll not argue, just mention how I feel.) I see there are two sounds for each civ, are they meant to be one for each phase or just two alternatives and one would be used both for reaching phase 1 and 2? To me they aren't different enough to be one for each phase, so I'm assuming they're just different alternatives. In general I would say they are pretty good, and as far as I can tell fitting their civs reasonably well. I would like to hear Omri's opinion (I'll send him an email pointing him to this thread) as they are essentially music, so it would be nice to hear what he thinks.
