There's an old discussion that recently popped out. It had something to do with "Hunger" which had trickle Food cost over time. Your suggestion can complement to that... in an "Extra Realism" Mod or something.

A lighter shade of dust for Construction, and a darker shade of dust for Destruction.

Does the Sentry Tower have that? Got distracted by that Sign of Tanit, though. lol

Making Temples Relevant
sphyrth replied to Thorfinn the Shallow Minded's topic in General Discussion
The only new thing I've learned here is that some temples were actually used for healing. I thought that's the only area where 0 A.D. emphasizes gameplay over history and realism. -
An interesting take on the chickens. I thought that they are too realistic/small for the game.

Sunday Pro Games 1v1 Development Thread
sphyrth replied to HMS-Surprise's topic in Announcements / News
(Not signing up, but I'm curious about the Civ-banning mechanics) Does it have an order like "Player 1, Player 2, Player 2, Player1"? Was this system in the previous Champions Cup? -
@ValihrAnt said it would. Well, while he was struggling with his FPS on the game.

I don't know about partial leather, but I think they used Leather Casing for their shields when not in use. Guess that might give you an idea about the Shields on the Back.

Speaking of which - Nice job on the Ptolemies. They now look more consistent with 0 A.D. than with AoM. But the idle animations just astounded me. 0 A.D.'s assets are its gateway drug that I can't seem to get enough of.

To think I used one for the thumbnail of my next video. Fortunately I tend to use SVN images for the thumbnails.

Yep. It's the Realism argument against the Citizen Soldier itself. Many people have pointed it out that it's too unrealisitic for people people who are carrying Wood to be able to instantly whiff out their battle-gear and vice versa. As much as I prefer Gameplay Over Realism at this point, they're correct. Even the Marian Romans (who are the prime example of Gather-Build Soldiers) need time to ready up their formation and brace for battle.

No, not like that. Like a Windmill, for example. No need for someone to do anything to it. But taking into account the "being damaged / captured" is a good point of More Unnecessary Hassle.

It's interesting to know that the Storehouse was called Mill back then. Since I was a curious cat back then I didn't even notice it. It might be awkward to call it a Mill now, but I personally would find it interesting if the Storehouse had a "milling" animation. Such animations would make structures have that vibrant and lively feel to them.

Empires Apart. ==Freemium==

This game is basically on "Life Support" now. It actually makes me appreciate 0 A.D.'s move to Open Source.- 209 replies

Role of Cavalry in the Early Game
sphyrth replied to Thorfinn the Shallow Minded's topic in General Discussion
"Cavalrymen are the elite and are therefore respected; you don't expect them going around slicing chickens." That's the historical argument right there. Ironically, it seems that Cavalry Hunters fits the AoE2 timeline better since Knights enjoyed hunting as a game. But as @Nescio pointed out they're still not expected to bring the meat to their families by themselves. Gameplay-wise, it's also my complaint that they're being overused for Rushes (which should not be the case for Village Phase). I'm still going for what I've suggested: Cavalry shouldn't be trained in the Civic Center (or at least it trains them significantly slower). Make players earn them through Barracks. -
It took me time to find the compatible Autociv (Yes, I'm THAT lazy). Feldfeld's Rush.zip

Thanks, but I don't really do IRC. Given the fact that the code is currently open to a limited people, I couldn't really care much what goes on there. I only want to know if the project is still alive. That's enough for me.

Warfork reminded me of this. So, are things still chugging along?

I'm Planning to Get a New PC and I Need Advice
sphyrth replied to sphyrth's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I haven't found a case yet. That's gonna be the last thing I'll be choosing to my heart's content... along with the other components. For now, it's just a waiting game for these 2 requirements: 1. Saving up for the CPU and Motherboard 2. Solving 0 A.D.'s problem with 3rd Gen Ryzens -
I'm Planning to Get a New PC and I Need Advice

Even for a sale, I'm not buying a sportscar when I can walk home. To give you guys an update, I like @OptimusShepard's suggested build. It beautifully fits the budget. I'm going to use that template, but I'll be following @Genava55's advice. Would a Ryzen 5 3600 do the trick? My current problem now is choosing a Motherboard. I've been sifting among so many, but I couldn't really confirm if they're compatible. And what I'm considering are these: X570 Line - Aorus Elite B450 Line - MSI Carbon vs. MSI Tomahawk -
I'm Planning to Get a New PC and I Need Advice
sphyrth replied to sphyrth's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
With enough push, I'm convinced planning with the AMD route. It's actually the obvious choice both in budget and gaming purposes. But please understand that my reluctance is because of its shaky Linux support. -
For melee Cavs if I'm generous enough. The Wedge is the Syntagma equivalent for Cavalry units. Edit: Seeing Camel Archers in a Wedge is like seeing Intantry Archers in a Syntagma - the formation doesn't match the purpose (nor does it make sense). The Wedge were used more as a "spear" that blasts through formations. And ranged Cavalry isn't designed to do that.

I'm Planning to Get a New PC and I Need Advice

Thanks guys! You've saved my potentially wasted money. I'm scrapping the NUC for my gaming rig. Its inability to install a GPU has become a deal-breaker. (But I'm buying a cheaper one for my office work). If I got the idea correctly, a good budget build would include a Core i5 with a GPU that's at least better than my current one.
