  1. Searching for Alexander battles, I have found this series: I post it here cause it's educational and uses 0 A.D main song title at the end (and it's properly credited)
  2. The "girder" of the center needs ropes, right? There's also a black circle that shouldn't be there.
  3. For me I feel that the interior is rounder, but not the exterior circumference. Random fact: the chariot at the first drafts of the Seleucid design, was a melee chariot, but probably because there's no run and trampling, was moved to a ranged unit.
  4. I don't know if the generation of resources inside resources or buildings (generally Iberian walls) are a map script problem, or a general one. I know you're aware, but in case that the problems are map specific, here you have one. The problems is that in my CC (black), I had berries inside stones. berries inside stone.7z
  5. Well, we're talking about a remake, not a reboot, don't? Maybe it will happen in Aoe4, cause there's nothing written against taking the series to the ancient era another time (modern era it's well covered by other games, and probably better covered with another gameplay systems) Well, I didn't signed a NDA. And don't think that it's very important. Also in the first and allowed gameplay video, there're ponds and happen the same.
  6. Well, I'm not in Beta, just looking into the videos that people post in youtube of one of my childhood games. Yes, I think that they have went to conservative: I rather would take the Aoe2 genie engine, solve the bugs, and then build the game from there, having triggers and formations, for example. So at time of the Aoe2 DE, you have an already improved engine, and if one game have one problem, you can solve them (easy to maintain). I would have added gates, and farm queues. Also unique units. But either Microsoft doesn't want to spend too much money (or it's a low profit project), or/and they want to be very conservative for targeting old nostalgia fans. Some in the forum, were against unit queueing, against farm right click reseeding, cause this "causualise" the game... For sure they had done and they will make balance changes for solving one way winning strategies, because I think that Forgotten Empires, (for the things that I have read, cause I'm not a competitive Aoe 2 player), have done both solid and innovative ideas, without going too far away from the game, and within the game engine limits with a probably small budget. The real proof will be Aoe 4, cause although they have a tradition to keep, they have more room for new ideas cause it's a new title (however I know that Relic they have done big failures, like DoW 3, and I don't know if Forgotten Empires would be involved) What you would do for the gameplay, having in mind that it's a remake?
  7. Having tides in ponds are something curious. I will post it on the official forums
  8. The Aoe DE room: less room for chat, and more info about gameplay settings: we should know at first glance if there's no rush treaty, if cheats are enabled..
  9. Today I tried to different games setups: 1122 and 1212 for teams, and both we were spawned near the enemies, instead of near the allies. The map gameplay it's supposed to be like this?
  10. First look into Aoe DE scenario editor: ·News heroes (I don't know who are Masde Sastres), and they have corrected the translation of scythed chariot for spanish (it was translated as Scythian chariot) And a another video Seems that pathfinder it's far better!
  11. What make you think that? Only has been 3 months since last alpha release, now alphas are released by like 2 at year. Maybe the dev team has switched to short cycle developing, but didn't read nothing about it.
  12. Allied AI? There's an option for sharing storehouses, but I think that you need to research a tech in the market, and later I don't remember if the ability it's unlocked by default
  13. Could be added as a scenario editor only
  14. I'm trying to organize some of my university notes, and I want to create a manual like, and I need two features: hyperlinks inside the documents, and mousover text. What I can use? (easy program)
  15. Then, what kind of sword cavalry could use Sparta?
  16. Brit champions represents the king bodyguard made from nobles. Maybe they are depicted being too old?
  17. Too many patterns and different colours causes a lot of noise to differentiate the unit classes, and this is from a gameplay POV, very crucial. Your brain should see the units classes in 1 second. I would go for something like the spearmen textures that you submitted to DE. And I don't know how to explain, but I find sometimes the textures a little bit mate (specially the greek shields). There was an interesting topic of somebody that wrote things about contrast and theory colour in 0 a.d, although it was very rude. But don't take my into account seriously, I don't know next to nothing in art.
  18. Wow, very newbie player. It seems that they have started to replace the icons of the buildings.. and my opinion they look worse than the AoM placeholders.
  19. The aim of the topic is filling the rosters. Athens have both javelin and sling infantry covered and Sparta have already champion spear infantry. But Sparta could take sword hippeis: most of the cavalry of the game, if I'm not mistaken, used javelins as a main weapon to fight infantry (unless chasing routing units or light infantry), but devs give sword cavalry for most civs. Added roman rorarii, sword cav for civs that lacked them and carthaginians
  20. Well, the main aim of this topic is not to make a discussion of why techs trees could be filled. The aim is making a collective resource for devs or modders, if they want to augment the number of units of units for civs, reducing the uniqueness of the rosters, but making them easier to balance (I'm for a asymmetrical balance, and the difference could be done in other ways, but as I said, focus the thread into filling the rosters). I'm not saying that we should add or not this units. At first I would use fast and superficial sources. Later If I have time or somebody does it, I would post better sources. My proposition is to make the design historical based, but not 100% accurate. For every proposal, a short argument or source. Not unique units, mainly common units and mercenaries (try to stick to historical mercenaries used for the correspondent civ) based on existing roles. The format is: role (based on existing ones): Concrete name Justification: and explanation if needed for supporting sources Source: Athens: (Fast) swordman: Ekdromoi Justification: It was a champion unit for the Greek civ before the splitting (now replaced by the Athen Marine). Could be the same that Spartan commando (c-s) or Gaul Fanatic (champion) Spartan: Slinger Justification: Spartan used slingers in their armies, for sure as mercenaries, and I don't know if they were also native soldiers. I don't know if were the helots who were used as slingers, like in Total War. Archer Justification: The same. Could be also Cretan mercenaries. Source for both them: https://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130703083325AACyja2 Pikeman: Periokoi pikeman Justification: by the III century b.c, pikemen were used by spartans. Now there's a scenario-editor only unit, and has been debated to give allow to train them by a reforms tech Sword cavalry: Hippeis cavalry Justification: Convention: most of the cavalry of the game, if I'm not mistaken, used javelins as a main weapon to fight infantry (unless chasing routing units or light infantry) and sword as side weapon, but devs give sword cavalry for most civs. Source for Cretan archers and pikemen: https://books.google.es/books?id=RLr8CwAAQBAJ&pg=PA29&lpg=PA29&dq=tarantine+cavalry+sparta&source=bl&ots=A-XsoU1zQ3&sig=I_smyZXsIO_j_SkVhaPBSDsATUM&hl=es&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjI0NDXlpTXAhXSFsAKHfcSCHUQ6AEIaTAL#v=onepage&q=tarantine cavalry sparta&f=false Gauls: Swordman: Justification: as it says in the original design doc, sword were used by celts, but mainly nobles. It could be used a narrow viewer to make them available as c/s Archer: Hunter Justification: Vercingetorix reunited hunters with bows to fight romans. Could be implemented as mercenaries, like Delenda Est. Britons: Swordmen: Justification: the same as gauls. Mauryans: Infantry skirmisher Justification: mauryan infantry was almost all made by light infantry, and used javelins Source: https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2015/11/10/the-mauryan-empire-military/. This source also says that mauryans used catapults, ballistas and rams! Slingers: Source: https://books.google.es/books?id=jpXijlqeRpIC&pg=PA30&lpg=PA30&dq=mauryans+slingers&source=bl&ots=RAdEwmEWZ6&sig=WyBgQ390GEkRCEiD3cw9auarmR0&hl=es&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiVoOaEm5TXAhWBoRQKHYjJBx0Q6AEIVDAK#v=onepage&q=mauryans slingers&f=false Persians: Slingers: Justification: Polybius said it, (II a.c) Source: https://books.google.es/books?id=C4A7DgAAQBAJ&pg=PT314&lpg=PT314&dq=Achaemenids+slingers&source=bl&ots=L5lL7a0O9U&sig=WdDtshe_OXpO5sfZxotqNcOZy1M&hl=es&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjuk9f_m5TXAhVEOxQKHbCBAS8Q6AEISDAI#v=onepage&q=Achaemenids slingers&f=false Iberians: I think that are pretty complete (in historical terms). But: Sword cavalry: Justification: Convention: most of the cavalry of the game, if I'm not mistaken, used javelins as a main weapon to fight infantry (unless chasing routing units or light infantry) and sword as side weapon, but devs give sword cavalry for most civs. Macedonians: Spearman: Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Macedonian_army wikipedia Republican Romans: Pretty sure that the roster its historically correct. Normal spearman could be used, not only triarius if wanted. But probably there's a lot of room for auxiliary units. Spearman: Rorarii Justification: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rorarii Sword cavalry: Justification: Convention: most of the cavalry of the game, if I'm not mistaken, used javelins as a main weapon to fight infantry (unless chasing routing units or light infantry) and sword as side weapon, but devs give sword cavalry for most civs. Carthaginians: Infantry skirmisher: Libyan skirmisher (citizien-soldier) Cavalry spear: Lybian or Carthaginian spear cavalry Source for both: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_of_Carthage#Formation_and_structure Sword cavalry: Lybian or Carthaginian sword cavalry Justification: Convention: most of the cavalry of the game, if I'm not mistaken, used javelins as a main weapon to fight infantry (unless chasing routing units or light infantry) and sword as side weapon, but devs give sword cavalry for most civs. Lazy to do romans auxiliares and successors. If somebody have more sources and units, I will add them!
  21. There's some way for playing a game, that if the original hoster leave, allows you to continue to play? It would be very difficult to implement?
  22. Now that has been some work with inconsistencies about unit cost, that could be looked. That should be the role of the sentry towers, and not of the outpost, right? GG, BTW
  23. If I remember correctly, one observed joined and then was an OOS with the AI. (Replays don't show when observers joins and leave) It was supposed to be a FFA (although the other 2 helped each one) of 3 players and 1 AI. Ranged cav party. 2017-10-28_0001.7z
