Unit Voice Variation
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to BrynnOfCastlegate's topic in General Discussion
It also might be a good idea to have horse sound effects be tied together for cavalry units when taking orders. It would also be nice to have the there be a human groan along with the horse death sound effect when any horse unit dies. (Excepting unmanned horses.) -

Perhaps you should play on really small maps. They are a lot more offensive then. -
Suggestions for 0 A.D.
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to Wijitmaker's topic in Gameplay Discussion
If he is in atlas he should be a cavalry unit since he was an aristocrat. The Xenophon unit would be far more excellent for Iphikrates. -
Speaking of formations, are there any tentative plans of working on the better promised naval combat or land warfare any time soon?

I would recommend that someone updates a few of the history articles. To begin, there is Xenophon's article. In Xenophon's article it only explains about his march with the ten thousand and little more. He was far more active than that though. During the Peloponnesian War he fought as a knight (hint: he should be a cavalry unit.) and served under the thirty tyrants. During the Battle of Coronea he battled against the Athenians, fighting alongside King Agesilaos. The rest of his life was mostly spent in a villa in Sparta. He was a great admirer of the Spartan ideals and of King Agesilaos. This comes to my second suggestion. Replace Xenophon with a more patriotic Athenian. Two good ideas are Iphikrates and Alkibiades. Another far to short article is Perikles's. It hardly says anything about his life and service to Athens. The final article I suggest that you update is Britomartos's. In this article it merely tells about a well armored Celt challenging the Roman army to a duel. The Roman man of the hour kills him with ease. Perhaps either the article should sound more biased toward the Gaelic fellow or another hero should be found. I prefer the latter. -
Will they be implemented into the first release once such features are available to the second?

I think that conversion, if implemented in game, should merely work like Age of Empires, but one should be able to toggle it on and off as he or she pleases.

What is the name of 0 A.D. Alpha 7 Code ?
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to vencruise's topic in General Discussion
Kronos is a good name since it is the Greek word for time. It may be a while before Alpha XI is released. -

Very good job. I recommend that you use a different screenshot for the picture to the right however.

Alpha XII Name Suggestions
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to Thorfinn the Shallow Minded's topic in General Discussion
Why not Lugh, a Celtic deity? -
Even though it is a bit early, I thought that someone might as well open a thread like this. For the twelfth alpha of 0 A.D., we will see the name starting with the letter 'L'. Here is some of my own input: Lakedaemon (or Lacedaemon), a native or inhabitant of Sparta, the surrounding area. Laconia, southeastern Greece Lycurgus, the legendary lawgiver of Sparta Lysander, a Spartan admiral who fought during the Peloponnesian War.

But what point does the stuff have? Is it in game?

Which Strauss? Richard, Johann, or Johann Jr.? -
I would suggest that the "RTW" mode be called "Strategos" mode.

I think that regardless of whether, units recognize roads, it would be great to have them in the game along with build-able bridges. I do recommend that this is implemented in the distant future, but certainly there are higher priority tickets.
-
Perhaps there could be one that changes the pitch of the unit's voices, making them sound really high or low. I do not have any idea how that could work exactly. Do you have it where you unlock the cheat codes over time?

Flaming kettles for Greek 'monuments'
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to azayrahmad's topic in General Discussion
Well, the fact is that it was not considered a coward's weapon necessarily, but I would say that it would make you look quite low in the social order to be fighting amongst the peltasts and such. -
Suggestions for 0 A.D.
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded replied to Wijitmaker's topic in Gameplay Discussion
To change the subject, I would like to suggest some general changes to the heroes. First, there is Xenophon. In game, he is an Athenian skirmisher unit. The first problem is that he was an aristocrat and probably fought as a knight. The second problem to address is that he was hardly pro-Athenian. As a matter of fact, he actually fought with the Spartans at the battle of Coronea. He could make a hero for a scenario, but I would hardly have him be what he is at the present. I now will give a list of heroes that could possibly replace him or at least be in the Atlas editor. Alkabiades is the first. He was a competent admiral and general and was generally well liked until he was convicted and joined the Spartan cause. Miltiades, commander of the Athenian forces at Marathon. This hero could increase the pierce armor and speed of all units in his formation to simulate what happened at that battle. Phormio, an Athenian admiral who managed to beat a Spartan fleet mainly by merely circling around it which completely confounded his enemy. Thrasybylus, the man who led a army against the forces of the Thirty Tyrants, beating them. He could have an ability where the men in his formation could drive their shields into the ground and kneel behind them, causing them to also be stationary. This could seriously increase their armor from frontal assaults, but would make them extremely vulnerable at all other sides. Another option is Iphikrates, who could make peltasts and hoplites be capable of upgrading to Marines, and could make such units better in some way. -
Yes, they really started the 'Viking Age around A.D. 793 when they invaded Lindisfarne.
