I hate it because I'd rather farming be something out away from the center of town. Obviously, it's more efficient to farm around the CC for various reasons as the current game design stands, but to me it looks so unnatural. I'd like to change that, but I'm sure the current player base would revolt.3 points

New version 26.4.1 Updates - Added the lobby bots to the pingAll ignore list @Dunedan3 points

I can't really say much about moderation, the people, the processes, the policies. But it seems obvious to me that policies shouldn't be decided by a single person. And it also seems obvious to me that the single address for a complaint about a person mustn't be that person themself. Regarding leadership and inaction: maybe it's time that the people who can decide something decide something. It's been over a year now that @Stan` stepped down as project lead? As far as I'm aware there hasn't been a word since regarding leadership or the general structure of the project. Let's hope we can sort out this situation and the way forward amicably.2 points

Basically I've defined variants in the actor, and the biome you can optionnaly set on the maps is used with the help of the template to know which variant to use depending on the biome. Thankfully for me the gauls unlike other civs already have a winter variant. Ideally snow could be another texture on top of the current one but the game doesn't support that yet2 points

I'm taking a break from moderation for a while. Dunedan is about to apply some policy decisions for the lobby that I consider poorly planned. Examples of policy that he has proposed are muting of users for, in my opinion, excessive durations of more than 24 hours, and perma-banning users where temporary banning would be more appropriate and more effective. I have tried discussing this with him many times, and he has refused to acknowledge key facts, such as the history of attempting to enforce bans in the lobby, and instead insists on ending debate and applying arbitrary policy decisions. These proposed policy decisions would in my opinion cause a setback in progress enforcing the rules. I feel like the manual monitoring of lobby chat that I have done has been taken for granted by Dunedan. I don't want that done in my name. I've been out in front appearing to be in control of the lobby, the only one with an @ symbol next to my name. I've been the only one mentioned in the message of the day greeting. Yet I'm not actually in control. So I'll take a break from moderation and let Dunedan take responsibility and control instead of just control. I've been doing the heavy lifting and have saddled the emotional burden of the lobby without getting the credit. I have been helping new users with troubleshooting installing and networking 0ad. I have been stepping in to stop people from fighting with each other. I have been basically the only one monitoring chat manually for the past year and issuing mutes as appropriate. I have been hosting games with rules regularly to create a space for people who want to get along and treat each other with respect. The Outcast affiliation still doesn't work, even after I completed testing of the update that would fix it, and Dunedan said that no further testing was necessary. This means that it is not being fixed for political reasons, not technical reasons. Unless Outcast affiliation works then I do not have the ability to ban lobby users. In my opinion, I have been demoted. What kind of Administrator doesn't have the ability to ban a user? Dunedan at one point said that if there is a complaint about his "authority" then he is the only one who can be consulted about it, that no one else can be consulted. What ethical organization has a policy where there is no transparency or oversight for an administrator? Fortunately, I did not let this deter me from getting sunlight on the situation. I shared chat logs with Stan after obtaining reluctant permission to do so from Dunedan. Unfortunately, after I talked to "upper management" of Wildfire Games by sharing examples with Stan and Itms of what I consider bad behavior by Dunedan, it was met with inaction. Dunedan's choices have been effectively rubber stamped by Stan and Itms. I will take a break until better decisions are made. Realize that without people helping new users install the game and get it working, there will probably be a decrease in player count over the long term. I don't like this fact, but it is the reality of things. In the meantime I will use the name Skyforger_Harold for off-duty lobby purposes. Please direct all lobby moderation and administration requests to Dunedan for the time being.1 point

Weird but reassuring to read you explain that. Thanks @Norse_Harold.1 point

In other words, we don't want that much attention, but just some? Should 0AD stay a hidden jewel? (which it is indeed) The point may be that the smaller the player base, the less contributions we can expect from the community. The entire burden is then placed on the shoulders of a few enthusiasts. (Let me repeat that I am extremely grateful for all that work that went into this beatiful and fascinating game and that I admire your dedication!)1 point

source: https://www.anasynthesis.co.uk/index.php/articles/alexandria-50bce Alexandria was a magnificent, multi-faceted, cosmopolitan walled city, built on the Egyptian coastline 178 kilometres (111 miles) from Cairo. Founded by and designed by Alexander the Great in 331 BCE, Alexandria soon developed into the premier city of the civilised world, largely due to its strategic location connecting the East with the West. With broad streets intersecting at 90 degrees, following a ‘grid pattern’, the city appears very modern to us today. Yet, the town-planning dividing between blocks of religious and civic character, the multi-cultural elements conjugating imported and indigenous traditions, the monumental architecture comprising cultural centres under the auspices of the Palace and the admirable throughout the centuries Library, as well as the pioneer works of engineering and navigation, rank it among the grandiose Hellenistic kingdoms. Descriptions of Alexandria from the Ptolemaic period (as opposed to the Roman) are few and do not provide detailed description of architecture and buildings. The earliest description we have of the city is the account of the geographer Strabo, who visited the place in 26/20 BCE, that is, in the post-Ptolemaic period. With the city then being under Roman rule, Strabo may be also referring to buildings commissioned by Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony. We do get a tantalising overview of the Hellenic grandeur of the city, as Strabo describes it in circa 26BCE. From the ancient geographer’s account we glean the following main points, excluding any references to Roman additions or modifications and taking into account what can be confirmed on archaeological evidence as existing in the Ptolemaic period, prior to Alexandria’s annexation to the Roman Empire. The whole city is crossed by roads laid out with attention to symmetry and regularity, for the passage/circulation of horsemen and chariots. Two of these streets are very broad, exceeding a plethron in width (100ft), and they intersect at right angles. Town planning also provided for beautiful public grounds and royal residences, which occupy a fourth or even a third of its total extent. Above all, such a layout ensured easy access to every building, even those located further, and also to the harbour. The Museum forms part of the Palace and it includes a public promenade, a seating area and a large hall for the communal dining of the men of learning, the erudite ones. Also part of the palatial domain was the so-called Sema, an enclosure containing the tombs of the kings and supposedly that of Alexander, too. Entering the great harbour, on the right hand is the island surmounted by the Pharos (Lighthouse); on the left we see rock reef and the promontory Lochias, with a palace built upon it. (The poet Lucan wrote about the palace interior in 39/65 AD, providing a detailed description and attributing it to Cleopatra. It is possible, however, that the palace in such an advantageous location may be associated with some previous sovereign). At the entrance, on the left hand are the inner compartments of the royal residence, extending and connected with those on the Lochias, and containing numerous apartments with painted decoration and groves. Next after the Heptastadion is the harbour of Eunostos, and above this is the artificial port called Kibotos (the Ark) and equipped with docks. At the bottom of this harbour is a navigable canal, extending to the lake Mareotis. This link represents a pioneer and unparalleled for its time work of engineering, showing the significance of connectivity and communication for Alexandria and underlining its cosmopolitan character. Flanking the canal is the Serapeion and other ancient sanctuaries. In short, the city of Alexandria abounds with sacred and profane edifices, next to important public works.1 point

buildings to adapt to their map #7069 https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/pulls/7069 I want to discuss how we are going to adapt the to different maps, climates and environmental conditions. We will have snow, some walls, ceilings and props will look different. The same applies to the desert or a climate of intense humidity in the jungle.1 point

DE's farmland feature is the easiest way to do it, as it requires no new component code except maybe some QoL stuff.1 point
-
@wowgetoffyourcellphone: not so sure the player base would revolt if that feature was not totally banned. Should we instead consider incentivising the distance to the next own CC? (or ideally create different levels of farming effectivity depending on the soil type, my little dream, just cannot do that)1 point

Sounds like a you problem to me. Maybe you could elaborate why you hate it? As things are I gonna continue building a ring of fields around my CC with a ring of houses around that, so my women don't have to go to some location to work but work right where they spawn and are easier to protect. (I do some additional farming somewhere in the back.) And what else should I build there? I never build markets downtown but at the very fringes to maximize distances. Apart from incentivizing farming somewhere off the CC with fertile land I guess a bunch of auras could be added to the CC to encourage building urban centers (houses get housing bonus, markets get resource trickles, forges get research bonuses...). If it is deemed worth the effort.1 point

We could encourage farming with a graded incentive: very poor results on pavement / stone poor results on sand or snow good results on green soil (grassland) excellent results on prepared fam land (the areas that have already plowed soil) Downside would be that maps would need an additional parameter (soil fertility for differnt areas - farmland concept extended). Let me know your thoughts! Best regards, Grautvornix Side note: This would then also address (kind of) my proposal for water as additional resource (i.e. oasis in desert maps has an farming advantage over pure sand), cf. this thread: Oh, and of course the ar4ea around a CC then needs to be paved.1 point

I have been living here in my new house for 3 months now. I don't know if I should make a variant with this building. I would like to know if anyone can use it. as you can understand it took me 6 months to get my new house, I live in a more rural area but quite civilized (for the third world). I was one year without using the PC until May 2024. I only dedicated myself to think concepts and draw a little bit apart from playing on the cell phone. I found some ideas compatible with my designs in other games. these settlements or forts allow to recruit mercenaries and to be trade routes, they belong to the Impervm HD game. https://www.imperivmworld.com/aprende-a-jugar/ it's like a CC and a fort or a market all in one1 point

According to what I read(or I saw in a video), it was one of the main ideas that were later discarded. Now I know where some of Delenda Est's ideas come from.1 point

Developers! DONT REMOVE THIS OP, I think instead they can make the ai have many attractive perks like roads, pre built structures, etc, it will just reuire a creative brainstorm in order to get the things set up. But WINNING THE GAME WITH ONLY FARMS AND GATHERING WOOD IS SOMETHING I FOUND REALLY OP in civilizations where the soldiers cost only food and wood and THAT IS GOOD(not in real life though) I just want to know if anyone else know this1 point

After over 19 years we need to call it “early access?” The name doesn’t affect its lack of exposure. IMO 0AD is much fun than Age of empires IV and it’s totally free. The only problem I noticed is the ranking - when you google Age of empires alternatives , you may or may not see 0AD but if you somehow do see it, it’s literally ranked low- way below the list. Just cause people don’t know about it and how great of a game it is. Infact it should be the first to pop up as AOE alternative1 point

So instead of calling it "ALPHA" we call it "Early Access" to better match industry's habits ?1 point

I once again want to mention that I'm very unhappy with the game using different numbers from what is shown to the player. Everything looks like I can build a CC, but when I press the button nothing happens. I didn't even get an error message, which I believe was the case previously. I had to get another metal to build, it's a rounding thing and a fringe case. Still I think it's fundamentally wrong that the numbers and the button make it seem like I can build that structure when in fact I can't. And it's still baffling to me that parts of the game think I can build it (as shown by the normal appearance of the button), while other parts decide I cannot (as evidenced by pressing said button). It would be better if the button was greyed/redded out and told me what the problem is, but ideally there wouldn't be different interpretations of 187. savegame-1459.0adsave1 point

I want to revive this project but without people helping me I get discouraged easily. I'm obsessed with Babylon, Assyria and Aram. It sounds like a time of action, myths and heroes.1 point

I still have several of those symbols on my computer. What you need are those symbols, with those symbols you recreate the compositions of all those shields.1 point

There is also @real_tabasco_sauce's patch for better unit behaviour. @ShadowOfHassen since the encyclopedia is big we might have to do it in two parts in case we wanna release because translators might not have enough time to translate all of it.1 point

Yeah, even 0 A.D.'s "turtling" doesn't feel like much of a turtle. To me, it's about layers of defenses, walls, towers, etc. Sure, you see Fortress and tower pushes, but that's not turtling to me. 0 A.D.'s exceptionally wide placement minimum for towers and fortresses doesn't feel like turtling to me.1 point

I am taking a temporary break from lobby moderation. I will use the name Skyforger_Harold for off-duty lobby purposes. Yes, it is an officially authorized duplicate lobby account. Please direct questions and requests regarding the lobby to Dunedan for the time being. What I have written about why I am taking a break is hidden by Dunedan for a reason, which I dispute. Okay, now the post is unhidden.0 points

No, they don't, and I don't have a good idea to do that properly/automatically.0 points
