  1. Why would an economical role be the equivalent of being worthless? Why is the warfare role more important than the economical one? You need both, without economics you can't deploy warfare. I'd say thats far from being useless or honourless. I think men would be picked to fight over women 99.9% of the time with the current civs we have ingame. Don't quote me on it though. But the mod wow made for having both male and female "gatherers" is a nice addition because that seems more realistic to me since not all men went to warfare.

  2. I agree with this. It should be made clear that while historically accurate, women couldn't fight not because they were unable to, but because they were not permitted to. I tried to rephrase the sentence (pardon for grammar mistakes): Also the word 'female' is meant for backend code, not for user facing description. Even the unit names are already Spartan women, Athenian women, not female citizen. Although I'm hesitate to replace female citizens with women. Also in ancient Greece I think women are not citizens, so perhaps civilian would be more appropriate.

  3. Crea is right. The language in the tutorial could be worded less sexist. I'm a 49 year old man & even I noticed that. This isn't about historical context, it's about wording modern game text in a way that doesn't make women sound worthless to people playing it. The description above singles out Females & then dismisses them as worthless in every area. Since this is part of the Tutorial, it's one of the first things you read opening the game. Personally I'd like to see both men & women in this untrained role, but at minimum the wording should be updated.

  4. So, let's talk about ships (and everything wrong about them). Naturally, I do as @Yekaterinasuggests! ;P Eventually my warship killed that fishing boat, but I watched at least five consecutive missed shots in a row which seemed to be a lot of misses. Frankly, I can't say anything about 'elevation bonus', 'launch height' and 'gravity'; so before the more knowledgeable people sort those out I start with two more basic things. First, this Quinquereme looks a lot more like a Trireme: Second, currently the projectile materializes out of thin air behind (!) the mast. On a quick look around the internet I didn't find anything reliable about the ranged capabilities of the (cart) quinquereme; maybe it's possible to add an onager on the ship's deck like in RTW? Hoping for fruitful discussions!

  5. Came back recently and from what i can tell the game isn’t as popular as it used to be, at least at 1300+ level. Often no one is online and it’s difficult to find people to play with so I made this discord with hopes of making it easier for those who want to play to arrange and organize games be it 1v1 or TG, set up game times with others. Can be used for other purposes as well like general discussion, posting 0ad related videos or other media, organizing tournaments, Ect. Main goal is still finding games. Goal is to keep the discord clean and organized so it’s not a mess and finding games is simple. requirement to join is that one must be 1300+ Come and get verified through your in game account and get your rank. Ranks (appropriate color): Gold:(top 3), Silver-(1900+), Bronze-(1800+), Iron-(1600+), Pleb-(1300+) there is also a separate channel category for anyone Iron or above for improved ease of finding challenging opponents.(just to clarify there is a single separate category encompassing everyone 1600+ therefore they can use both the regular channels and the "high level" ones.) https://discord.gg/2q9mj9Bue2

  6. Macedonia 39 - The Brahmin Rebellion (325 BC) In April of 325 BC, the Brahmin went into open rebellion against Alexander's forces. While the rebellion was ultimately unsuccessful, many of the Greek colonies suffered attacks and massacres. You have been dispatched by Alexander to help defend Sparta-on-the-Indus, a colony founded recently by veterans, mostly from the Peloponnese region. The colony is headed by Agis and his warrior wife, who will be at your service. Many of the veterans have married warrior maidens, who will also help in the defense. Our scouts report that two rebel armies are headed our way. Your job is to boost the defense of the colony and battle the attackers until they are destroyed. The first rebel army is expected to arrive in about a week (about 18 game minutes). There are several nearby trading posts that we can use for supplies in addition to gathering resources. To the south west, there reside a group of bandits which have recently stolen goods from the colony -- if we recover them, we should be able to build up our defense much quicker. The colony's militia will aid in the defense. You can "donate" soldiers to the militia by moving the unit behind the militia's outpost, right next to the militia camp in the back of the town. Good luck! AI Settings: All AIs should be set to Sandbox

  7. I think structures and siege are given an 'elevation bonus' and 'launch height' which changes the trajectory of the projectile. However, this is often not shown on actors and there is something worrying about projectile physics in 0ad: the value of gravitational acceleration (approximately 9.8ms^-2 on Earth) varies for different structures and units! This is the stats for a Quinquereme: @Gurken Khan There are many issues with ships in 0ad and they are overlooked because most TGs happen on Mainland. If you can kindly start a new thread to report all of the problems you have spotted with ships that will help a lot. Most bugs and balancing issues for ships are trivial.

  8. I need ideas for these guys so I can finish the heroes for A25. I could scour Wikiwand, but I think you guys might have better ideas!

  9. I would think so. Jein (yes and no). I couldn't efficiently pick units by sight, so I either have'em in control groups or I do an area select and take it from there.

  10. Were different textures and models not enough? Archers and spearmen are men, but they are not confused with each other.

  11. You are correct, but there is a major distinction. Killer blows were mostly done by hoplites and armies in general once the opposing army was retreating and had their backs turned and their shields thrown away. Macedonians using cavalry is a bit circumspect to the issue; it made their phalanx significantly more effective, but not necessarily less capable in the offence. This is a bit of an exception to the norm, but the Battle of Sphacteria was one in which light infantry alone practically defeated the enemy army. A point to be made is that when enemies rout, that is when they are most vulnerable to getting killed by things like projectiles, and most casualties took place after the battle itself; light infantry excel in that role.

  12. About the 2 gender citizen mod, since we only need to replace the actors, we can use nani's trick to make it compatible for lobby games. Those who need it can use it but please do not implement that by default, as it is easier to distinguish citizen-workers from infantry if we keep all citizen-workers with a female phenotype and all infantry with male phenotype.

  13. It'd really strange a few people have been reportint this, but I can't find a common denominator. Maybe it will be fixed in the next update.

  14. Basically any historical game with pikemen turns them into meat shields. This is to mimic their real-world combat role as meat shields. Meat shields.
