Any new love going the camels' way? I think the camel mesh and unit animations could use a revamp after @Alexandermb's very successful work on the cavalry. It would be excellent to have both Arabian and Bactrian camels: 1 and 2 hump. Then we can work on the rider textures and props to look more authentic. Right now they're just based on Persian units.3 points

I do think a ram should be able to tear down a fortress, but it should take a loong time, and units should take longer to train. Let the defending player have time to respond with his preexisting armies and not fresh spawns.3 points

I have never heard of Mauryans employing camels in military. The Seleucids seem to have at one point: the Battle of Magnesia, but they only deployed five hundred Arab camel archers, making it unlikely that they employed them in large numbers. Like the Dahae cavalry archers, these should be represented in the small numbers for situational purposes. I would recommend either making the player have to tech into them, have a long train time, or be expensive. The Persians did use them a bit when Cyrus was attacking Lydia.3 points

before the accuracy rework, elephants were addressed as OP units which aren't likely now. You can still garrison structures with swordsmen as defense against rams. they will take it down in seconds.2 points

i don't see why not, since this are the only units left (if i'm not wrong) using the old unit meshes it would be a great release if the old unit is nuked. @stanislas69 we have the blender file of the camel ?2 points

I just downloaded this game and I was going up against bots, then I played a game and faced another person. I think I did alright, sending my early Horse unit to harass the other guy's workers, and forcing him to waste resources sending a couple units of Cavalry right back at me, of which I defeated with ease. But the pace died down, eventually I tried to expand and build walls, and right there he has a bunch of Skirmishers and a battering Ram and I didn't have any siege equipment yet and I got demolished later. I have a few questions and thoughts and concerns, but I am just a noob and I obviously have no clue what I am talking about so if I could have feedback, advice, or tips, that would be great. 1. Resources seem to be finite, with Wood being the most abundant while Stone and Metal are pretty slow to get going. Doesn't that make it seem only viable to only train troops that only cost Wood, as well as factions that don't have access to both a basic Infantry and Skirmisher variant that only require Wood to be at a huge disadvantage? 2. It seems to me that the most "OP" way to win, in terms of infantry, is to spam your basic skirmisher unit. (I came to this realization playing against Bots, not this person). I played Athens in this game, and considering both points 1 and 2, I wasn't able to spam my basic Skirmishing unit so my Hoplites lost heavily to his Skirmishers. 3. The siege weapons (battering rams) appear to be extremely OP, quickly decimating structures, being extremely extremely hard to kill, and have the ability to obliterate infantry, while being relatively cheap for how ridiculously effective they can be. It seems to me that the first person to be able to crank out a Battering Ram or 2 and send them with decent support into the enemy base will absolutely destroy. (I also came to this realization playing against Bots, not this person). 4. The game appears limited in the same sense as Warcraft 3 or Starcraft games, which there's nothing wrong with. I was wondering if there's anything in the game that makes it more along the lines of Civilization or Total War campagin. 5. Also I have no idea how this capturing structures thing works, as I had literally 40 troops around a structure that the other player captured, and I couldn't capture it back. I also don't know how to make my infantry attack structures instead of capturing them.1 point

obviously i meant to garrison swordsmen and then ungarrison them to destroy rams...1 point

Then maybe pierce damage should have a higher effect on siege-weapons. They're not in-organic units you know. If the guys operating the machine get hit by arrows they die. With hundreds of arrow flying your way, you're bound to get hit at some point.1 point

F9, arrow up, enter, F9 :-P But if we don't consider preparation, we can get down to 0 keystrokes too. There is a 'disable spectator' button, but it's in the options. Someone was working on making that options page accessible from the gamesetup too to make it more transparent.1 point

Kushite Full Scale Armour A second primary reference for a full scale armour In previous posts, many examples of scale armour have been referenced, from various temple reliefs. By far the most common example of this scale armour is in the form of a corselet, wrapped around the torso, providing a decent protection for the vital organs, but leaving the arms and shoulders unprotected. I shared a single example of a full scale armour before, from a relief on the pylon of a Meroitic pyramid chapel belonging to King Tarekeniwal, showing the King in an elaborate full scale armour, covering his body all the way down to his knees, as well as his arms and shoulders, decorated with bands of cloth(?) with golden(?) figures of gods attached to them. Up to now, it was the only example I was able to find of this type. I now present King Amanakhareqerema, as depicted on an execution scene, on the pylon of temple 200 in Naqa, a now mostly ruined temple. The King is wearing a full scale armour covering his body down to his knees, as well as his arms and shoulders. It seems to be the same type seen on King Tarekeniwal, although it's missing the decorative bands of cloth. This is also yet another depiction of a lion alongside a Kushite royal mauling the "rebel nations". Detail of King Amanakhareqerema's face, as shared before: The other example of Kushite full scale armour: King Tarekeniwal, from Meroë. These scale armours are made of bronze, although leather and even gold have been postulated. I think the more common bronze scale armour corselet is perfect for elite troops, and the bronze full scale armour should be reserved for Hero units, or "royal guard" units.1 point

Much more trouble to achieve casual cheating than needed. It's technically impossible to solve, so I don't care much as a developer.1 point

*Hieratic art: "extremely stylized, restrained or formal; adhering to fixed types or methods; severe in emotional import" Pretty decent summary, although if you notice, many of the Kushite sculptures are smiling ever so slightly.. Statuettes of smiling Kushite Kings: Actually, one of the things that differentiate Kushite sculptures (and reliefs) from Egyptian ones, is that they are noticeably more muscular. Kushites admired and demanded physical strength from their rulers (as well as piety) King Aspelta: @stanislas69 Cool!!! thank you! Lion's remark on the Hieratic nature of the sculptures are quite accurate (except that the muscular look is actually good, and they can have a smile). Maybe in a future iteration But as it is now, I think it's really nice, and perfectly usable. Here's how I see the statues: I simply suggest they are used the same way "revered monuments" work for the Iberians. Build one for an attack or defensive bonus with a certain radius (they would have fought fiercely to protect these statues). For Delenda Est, wowgetoffyourcellphone can just use them as cult-statues. I'd actually like to see more civs be able to build these "revered monuments" in vanilla, although it should be renamed "revered statue" in my opinion. Opinions?1 point

Hello, everyone! After working on the translations (see this thread), here are some recordings I made: Dropbox folder Like I feared, "herd" and "fish" are quite long and could use a different phrasing. Please share your opinion! People with actual knowledge of the language are warmly welcome to review the translations and the pronunciation1 point

Any progression in this task? I'd like to hear different languages in the game, but I bet it's not easy to research for the right expressions and pronounce it correctly afterwards. Anyway, I hope after greek and latin, we'll be able to hear sanskrit soon1 point

Hello! I've been studying some bases of Sanskrit so that I can contribute to Mauryan voices. As a first step, here are the translations I made using the Monier-Williams English-Sanskrit Dictionary. Some grammatical mistakes might be present, so if anyone has some knowledge of Sanskrit they can voice their opinion. Some forms may be a bit long, so maybe it's better to change some strings (for instance, saying "Fisherman" instead of "I will fish" would probably be better). Thanks in advance!1 point
