  1. I'm familiar with the CLI. However, caring for updates every day is not my cup of tea. I will check Arch. No need for KDE or other fancy GUIs. The less resource-hungry it is, the better. Cheers! PS: Sorry that I got very OT here. Regarding recommended Linux distributions, please let us and other interested people continue there: https://wildfiregames.com/forum/topic/57519-recommended-linux-distributions/ Thanks a lot, and now BTT.
  2. When I start Windows 10, it never shows a version of OpenGL, just the usual NVidia stuff right after POST (i.e. right after restart and much earlier than the OS is booted).
  3. Thanks for these nice alternatives, which I will favour. (trying both of them) BTW, which Linux distribution is most recommended from a performance perspective? I have a refurbished PC with Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU and Intel Quad Core (3 GHz) CPU from around 2008, with 8 GB RAM. Arch Linux? And also "easy" enough for setting up the dev environment for 0ad? @Yekaterina
  4. Yep, and I had struggled in the past with "Franken Debians". https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian#Don.27t_make_a_FrankenDebian So I have to pin and what not... Sorry that this gets a bit OT, here. But maybe more Linux users stumble over this. Well, instead of apt pinning, I might as well consider upgrading completely to bookworm now.
  5. Oh, I see it, too - it's a23: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=0ad 0.0.25b is only available there: bookworm (testing) (games): Real-time strategy game of ancient warfare 0.0.25b-1: amd64 arm64 armhf i386 sid (unstable) (games): Real-time strategy game of ancient warfare 0.0.25b-1: amd64 arm64 armhf i386 I have to add bookwork (testing) to my sources.list, I guess. Not sure, though, how to do it without experiencing unwanted side effects.
  6. @Stan` Please forgive me my dumb question, but how do I found out if the 0ad version I get by "apt install 0ad" - which is 12.12.2020 (21946P-release) - is the most recent build? Or shall I purge 0ad from Debian 11 and install manually from svn instead? I would like to use it for real gaming on Debian, so playing from svn might not be ideal. Anyway, I'm grateful for your hints. BTW, I do plan to use 0ad from svn for testing purposes, but will keep it apart from my "gaming" 0ad version.
  7. I frequently mix left and right mouse buttons in 0ad.
  8. But why is secondary attacks specifically a topic for this mod? For testing purposes? Could it eventually flow into vanilla 0ad?
  9. I see that this thread is quite old, but maybe this is still interesting in this context - settings in config files:
  10. Thank you so much! Please allow me collecting some useful settings adjustments here for further reference (and maybe discussion, too ). These are settings that cannot be changed in the game settings menues but in user.cfg. Under Windows 10, it's there: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\0ad\config\user.cfg The values shown below are proposals I found in various posts in the forum. I have not tested them and recommend that you backup your user.cfg before changing it Zoom and scroll speed: view.scroll.speed = "200" view.zoom.default = "200" view.zoom.min = "3" view.zoom.max = "900" Attacks (some people might consider swapping hotkeys for attackmove and attackmoveUnit): [hotkey.session] attack = Ctrl ; Modifier to attack instead of another action (e.g. capture) attackmove = Ctrl ; Modifier to attackmove when clicking on a point attackmoveUnit = "Ctrl+Q" ; Modifier to attackmove targeting only units when clicking on a point (should contain the attackmove keys)
  11. @Freagarach From my first glance on that patch it looks as if there's still room for discussion and that it might not yet be clear how the behaviour should be like. Therefore, I started an extra thread for further discussion (hopefully, you and others agree with this). Continue about (secondary) attack types there:
  12. This was started because of this: Maybe we can discuss here about secondary attack types and how this is proposed there: https://code.wildfiregames.com/D368
  13. Dear Community, can you please give me a hint where to put manual adjustments - in local.cfg or user.cfg? I use a25 autobuilds under Windows 10 and also svn versions on Debian 11 (if that makes a difference with regard to the two config files). BTW, user.cfg is not mentioned on this wiki section; however, it appears in various spots in the FAQs and the GameDataPaths section (only about macOS, though) of the wiki. Therefore, I am a bit puzzled what should be adjusted in which of the two files (not to mention the dev.cfg that can also exist ). Thanks for your help! BTW, the tinygettext.debug (mentioned there in the wiki) is not in my user.cfg (a25 under Windows 10). PS: How can I manually format text in a forum post to appear like this?
  14. @Stan` Should this be adopted for vanilla a25/ future versions? It seems to be more realistic.
  15. @alreWell, I find it "nice" and admittedly have not paid attention to the different costs and profits. Maybe I should. But it's good to know the hint from @Palaiologos Thank you both!
  16. Welcome! Maybe we can help you. What exactly doesn't do well? What is the order of the enabled mods you have? Any error messages? Windows or Linux?
  17. Dommage! I hoped that no map update was needed but that it could be "auto-guessed" where such a spot should be set.
  18. Re-Volt/RVGL is a fun car racing game for multiple players (splitscreen or LAN), with tons of tracks, cars, various racing modes (incl. battle tag), and supporting all kinds of controllers. It's available for multiple platforms, incl. Linux, Windows, and Android (the latter without splitscreen mode, though, but also over LAN). It runs smoothly even on an old Amazon FireTV box (Android) and an old Intel Core2 Duo PC (Windows 10).
  19. Oh, went I thought that "collecting" them, I didn't mean to just "delete" them. Of course, one would have to attack them first, but instead of converting them to useless debris, one could use the wood as a resource. If this doesn't make sense, no problem for me. BTW, I completely agree that good placement of wooden palisades in the right spots with archers etc. behind can help to slow down an enemy's attack and give him a really hard time.
  20. @Stan` Maybe you would like considering some advertising of this "citybuilder/ pure educational" way to use 0 A.D. at school etc.
  21. Would this mean that every map has to be updated to have such an invisible entity/ actor added in (certain denser) forest spots? I assume that we don't want to have decreased vision range in only light forest parts or even single trees, right?
  22. Imagine a catapult being aimed at a building with lots of units standing in front. Depending on what is thrown at building and units, they will take damage. Units should not function as protective shield of an attacked building, IMO. If there is agreement that the current situation is not ideal, you could consider if units should take no or definitely more damage. I'm not sure if aiming at a building only should always only hit the building and no units in front, though.
