Edited the first reply after the OP regarding how pikemen in Spartan faction will be recruited. What do you think? It's fine to disregard the helot bowmen for Brasidas. Even without them, there's still the advanced-class Kres (new name for the Cretan mercenary archer).
-
The mercenary camp select sound seems related to the fortress and prythaneon building completed sound. Excellent work though!
-
Doesn't it look weird an Athenian hero wielding a Thracian pelte? As mentioned earlier, Iphicrates (and if possible, the thyreophoroi) should have a bit narrower but more rounder pelte like in this image: Don't think Athenians have used the big oval thureos during his time though, correct me if I'm wrong. Edit: This might be a revival the old Ekdromos or a related light peltast unit if the shields are to be changed. Also, since the Athenian heroes are getting mounts, how about some mounted hoplites for scenarios (in case Xenophon can be used in such)? Any more Greco-Persian and Peloponnesian heroes can be confined to the editor as well. Regarding history and related information, since they usually take up much bytes (especially regarding the heroes), why not put it in a Delenda Est manual downloaded separately and/or at GitHub? In game, the format can be like the vanilla: strengths/weaknesses/bonuses/boosts applied, followed by a summary of selected unit/upgrade/hero in a short paragraph or two, and gameplay traits. The rest of the research (full history, etc.) can be referred to the manual.
-
For the Athenians, can't you divide eras through an upgrade in the prytaneion or by initial choice? For the latter, You can decide whether to take either the Greco-Persian or the Peloponnesian hero roster at the beginning of a match. Or way better... choose from one of three/four ages: Greco-Persian, Pelopponesian, Hellenistic (, or Roman); then one of four heroes of the selected era. This opens up more heroes to choose from, notably Cassander.
-
Thanks for reminding me that Xenophon is still a plausible fourth for the Athenians. Bonuses can be related to mercenaries and hoplites. Don't forget his mount. For now, Archimedes can be the fourth Carthaginian hero, and the first "citizen hero". He can gather, farm, fish, repair etc. better than a usual citizen. Choosing him can give access the anti-ship mirror, and boosts the range and damage of nearby catapults/ballistae and oxybeles. Don't think Socrates could be a potential hoplite hero. If you want, how about making him as two Atlas/Scenario-only units? One can be hoplite and other "merchant"/"healer". You can decide whether he can retire to the latter at any time.

Let's start with the field requirement: at least one stable (whether horse, camel, or elephant) or an upgrade within stable required for an upgradeable mount. Don't recall any hero riding a camel though, except for Lawrence of Arabia. Exceptions can be made for scenarios if modder wants both (or more) forms present at his own preference. When turrets are implemented, a champion war elephant/chariot can take the place of the upgradeable mount, except in some cases (Boudicca, Hannibal, and Chandragupta have their personalized mounts and probably different modes of attack). In that case, a separate unit/actor can be labelled as "Boudicca's Chariot"/"Gilded Chariot", "Hannibal's War Elephant"/"Carthaginian Towered Elephant", "Chandragupta's War Elephant"/"Royal Maurya Elephant", or whatever name if the animal(s) have recorded names. Some can be trained (or put in scenario) more than once at modder's discretion. For the Spartans, choosing Agis III as a starting hero should unlock (or automatically unlocks) the Spartan pikemen and walls upgrade, the former may no longer be champions. If so, either (1) the basic and advanced can be Perioikoi and elite Spartan--since historically some of the P's have opportunity to become full-fledged citizens, (2) pikemen are upgraded from normal Perioikoi and Spartan hoplites, or (3) both hoplite and pikemen variants of each can be recruited in the syssition. Don't forget that the Spartan walls may need to be re-textured so it is distinct from the Athenian and Macedonian counterparts. The fourth hero can be Lysander, and the bonuses can be (1, somewhat) related to the navy like Themistocles, and (2) adds crush damage boost against walls and maybe some structures--he tore down the Athenian Long Walls, no doubt about it. Brasidas could unlock helot slingers and bowmen (or can apply a bonus to all helots, even unarmed, if both can be added to Spartan roster). Choosing Iphicrates unlocks a light champion skirmisher (other than a thyreophoros) who wields a round pelte, or a ekdromos hoplite who can throw dories (but the latter can still assume phalanx with normal hoplites). His bonus then can either (1) only apply to citizen, if any, and mercenary skirmishers in his lifetime, or (2) apply to all skirmishers (champions included) in a range. Fourth hero can be Archimedes, could be a healer. He can lower both the price and time of remaining building upgrades, as well as having upgrades of his own. Iphicratean Reforms will be available to Iphicrates and Archimedes (and fourth/any hero within or after lifetimes of him, either way a hidden upgrade), which allows hiring Athenian marines and the aforementioned light skirmisher/ekdromos.

Should the opening post be edited or a new thread be created for the proposed Yayoi-era faction? Here is the breakdown for the Yayoi faction (with placeholders): Faction description: My previous posts above (unit and building rosters) have been edited to reflect this information. @Ultimate Aurelian: Korean mercenaries could be put in later Kofun faction. Upgrade names (needs updating and corrections): Some upgrade names are in Sino-Japanese, so anachronisms are bound to happen.

I see. Are you planning to keep polygons at a minimum, or hope for someone to remodel the wagon to make it the exact size as the figurine? Tower could be smaller and thinner. Barding would be appreciated too.
-
For your war wagon, suggest that you either (1) add more horses, (2) replace them with oxen, or (3) replace them with humans pushing under or behind the wagon. It looks too heavy for two horses.

Post any current unfixed bugs/to do's pertaining since Millennium A.D 1.1.0 here (will be edited frequently). Models: Umayyad faction is incomplete, using Seleucid placeholders Norse wonder missing (Suggest the Rök runestone?) Byzantine Trebuchet is an anachronistic counterweight, replace it with traction Byzantine healer should be an Orthodox clergyman, not wearing Latin robes Animations: Frankish trebuchet attack animation, engineers not animated Frankish smithy has blacksmith tunic issues: Failed to set idle animation in model "art/meshes/skeletal/new/m_tunic_short.dae" Same for m_tunic_long.dae for some Frankish actors. Head coverings (Umayyad), cloaks, and coifs (both from all other new factions) do not align with skeleton Others: Hagia Sophia has specific name in pure Greek script, like the Yoddha in Delenda Est which has the Devanagari equivalent after "Yoddha" Frankish waterwheel is called a "Dock" The menu uses the usual 0 A.D. Roman/Seleucid/Spartan screens alongside the the usual one made for the mod by @Alexandermb: Solved: (Post solved issues for next release)

Militia Axeman (Onodukapi/Onozukai), Axeman Citizen Jōmon Slinger (Isinagë/Ishinage; literally stone throwing, any better name like Tabute/Tsubute?), Slinger Citizen Revised Hero Breakdown (all choose the 3 to be recruited in Civic Center, rest can be for Scenario/Herocide): Jimmu (Kamuyamatö Iparebiko/Kan'yamato Iwarebiko), Archer Hero Keikō (Opotarasipiko Osiröwakë/Ōtarashihiko Oshirowake), Archer/Swordsman Hero? Ousu/Yamato Takeru (Wousu, Yamatötakëru), Swordsman Hero Jingū (Okinagatarasi/Okinagatarashi), Swordsman Heroine Himiko (Pimiko), Healer Heroine "Jinmu" and "Jimmu" spellings are correct, but let's leave it to the modder. Suishō or one of the above not used can be a catafalque unit. Kofun can be a separate faction, thanks for the advice. Will wait for Part 2/Delenda Est proposal(s). Can the chashi be an embassy for Ainu/Emishi mercenaries? They could be an Atlas mini-faction. Ainu Mercenary Spearman Ainu Priest Chief ("priest" that can also have a damage boost for nearby units) Ainu Champion Mercenary Two-Handed Swordsman?

Think I can come up with a unit roster since no one called for such: (Specific names are Old Japanese orthography followed by Modern Japanese, if former cannot be read as such) Village (Mura) phase: Civic Center (Nezirö/Nejiro) Japanese Woman (Womina/Omina or Onna) Militia Spearman (Pokotuki/Hokotsuki), "Pikeman" Citizen; wields a two-handed spear, has shorter attack range than the Hellenistic counterparts and a bit more than the usual Spearman Militia Archer (Ite), Archer Citizen Barracks (Sikömiba/Shikomiba) Militia Spearman (Pokotuki/Hokotsuki), "Pikeman" Citizen Milita Axeman (Onodukapi/Onozukai), Axeman Citizen Militia Archer (Ite), Archer Citizen Spearthrower (Nagëtuki/Nagetsuki), Skirmisher Citizen Dock (Tu/Tsu? literally "harbor") Fishing boat (Turipune/Tsurifune) House (Ipe/Ie) Japanese Woman (Womina/Omina or Onna) Storehouse (Kura) Farmstead (Makïba/Makiba) Farm (Nora) and/or Rice Paddy (Ta/Tanbo) Corral (Wori/Ori) Outpost (Mönömi/Monomi) Sentry Tower (Yagura) Palisade/Wooden Wall (Kupi/Kui) Palisade/Wooden Gate (To) Town (Mati/Machi) phase: Temple (Yasirö/Yashiro) Shrine Priest (Nusi/Nushi) Shrine Priestess (Miko) Bellringer (Kanetuki/Kanetsuki), like the Gaulish Carnyx Siege Workshop (Takumiba) Battering ram (Pasiradataki/Hashira-dataki), for gameplay purposes Market (Iti/Ichi) Merchant (Akinapi/Akinai) Dock (Tu/Tsu?) Kofun era? A stable that hires Champion/Citizen cavalry spearman and archer?)

Looking forward to its progress. The Athenians should also have a two-handed battleaxe actor as in the Marathon battle scene (timestamp 1:12): You might have not read my last comment regarding spear-throwing as in the Iphicrates actor. Is there in code a way to, like the Speartons in Stick War or the outlaws in Stronghold 2/Legends, switch to their kopis (sword) after throwing their spear? It can be like this: (1) an "upgrade" to command them to throw their spears, (2) "promotion" to swordsmen and (3) two "upgrades" to return to using their spears for melee or another throw.

===[TASK]=== 0 A.D Ships Update.
Carltonus replied to Alexandermb's topic in Eyecandy, custom projects and misc.
The new ship models look great. Looking forward to their presentation in future releases. Is @Alexandermb or other modeler planning to remake the Tessarakonteres since the placeholder is still a Roman five? @Lion.Kanzen is right, there should be small infantry river transport; unless the trading ships are small enough for such. There's already one for the Han Chinese faction. Since the fisherman's boat only has a garrison size of 1, the occupying actor should be present (visible garrisoning). Same might apply to this kind of transport. Han also visibly garrisons one soldier, including the horse if that unit is a cavalry (Bug?)! There's the black sails from the legend of Theseus and the Minotaur. Are the use of black sails in battle (such as in the film 300: Rise of an Empire) historically accurate? -
This might be related: when playing "Peloponnesian Wars" the load screen created errors regarding the other/unfinished_greek_temple and gaia/special_ruins XMLs.

In vanilla the Syrian Archers are native mercenaries recruited from kleroukha. Delenda Est has them recruitable in faction mercenary camps, and the neo-Cretan archers are recruited as citizen-soldiers in the Archery Range and kleroukha. Here's one proposition if a Royal Stable is implemented: Barracks: Thureos Spearman, Chalkaspides/Chrysaspides, Hypaspist? (swordsman), Arab Javelineer (Thureos if Arab is a mercenary), Polis Cavalry, Dahae Horse Archer Archery Range (mod): Arab Javelineer, Neo-Cretan Archer (Syrian if no Mercenary Camp; Neo-Cretan to be placed in kleroukha), Chariot/Elephant Archer? (Edit) Camel Stable (mod): Camel Spearman, Camel Archer Mercenary Camp (mod): Thracian Swordsman, Syrian Archer (if not in kleroukha), (Edit) Galatian cavalry, Dahae Horse Archer, Tarantine cavalry Stable: Polis Cavalry, Hetairos, Cataphract, Scythed Chariot Royal Stable: Hetairos (if no Stable in mod), Cataphract, Scythed Chariot Fortress: Argyraspides, Romanized Thorakites, Chariot/Elephant Archer, War Elephant (if no Elephant Stable in mod), Gastraphetes Kleroukha: Thureos Spearman?, Thureos Javelineer, Thracian Swordsman, Syrian Archer (Neo-Cretan Archer if mercenary camps are in mod), (Edit) Galatian cavalry?, Macedonian Settler Cavalry? (Hetairos if you don't want to hire from a Royal Stable) Should a Seleucid Royal Stable be captured by another faction, as a special building, it should train chariots (regardless of class) and champion cavalry. Found out that Stables are standard in Alpha 24, so no Royal Stable may be needed.
-
@Nescio: thanks for your thoughts. There should be some options open, such as a Royal Stable for recruiting both the Scythed Chariot and Cataphract. Or the chariot can be built in the Workshop. and the companion cavalry be placed in a Barracks/Stable. With this, kleroukha can recruit settler cavalry (with different statistics, since they have shields) instead of hetairos. As soon as turrets (or similar garrisoning code) is implemented, the chariot archer (armored, "champion" or "elite citizen") can be (1) upgraded from a mercenary Syrian archer through an upgrade in the Barracks, or (2) recruited directly from the Fortress. In @wowgetoffyourcellphone's Delenda Est there's this Neo-Cretan archer which in my opinion a settler like the Macedonian "settler" cavalry? This would leave the faction with the most champions (or units altogether) though. Chrysaspides can be the elite/fourth promotion of Chalkaspides (or the other way around) given that gold was a symbol of status.
-
The new Athenian cavalry images look great. Have the images of the Carthaginian siege engines (ballista and oxybeles) been updated in the main game for next alpha? Currently they're not unlike the other factions that have them.
-
How about spearthrowing (in that slow motion scene)? Something like a re-modeled/textured Iphicrates.
-
Quick design question: what's with the small black stroke below the chin of the top four snakes? Edit: Any plans for arrow curtains (aprons) for the Athenian marines?
-
Of course you're misinterpreting: what I mean to say is, the Skiritai, Triarius, and the imperial pilum thrower (former in main game, latter two in DE) were already in Elite rank at recruitment. They should have had their chevrons already removed before (technically, they can be called "citizen champions"). But that is not the issue. The issue is that scouts and mercenaries have chevrons but no experience bar, and therefore cannot promote. If they are intended to never rank up, the chevrons should be either removed or replaced by differing icons. My suggestion would be to allow them to be promoted like normal soldiers (by experience or manual upgrade).
-
Absolutely. Recalling correctly, the only unit in the base game with this issue is the Skiritai Commando, which has already at three chevrons at recruitment. Delenda Est also has Triarius (Republic) and that pilum thrower (Imperial) starting at the same rank.
-
That's for the main game; this discussion is for the Delenda Est mod, so a different system in place. There could be an integrated Successor faction with differing heroes (Edit: and technology), but probably the same units and structures and with some minor alterations in between. Edit: @wowgetoffyourcellphone: the armor textures of Philip and Alexander on foot and mounted do not match with each other, are these intended or will be re-textured from one to the other in the future? Same with the Craterus' helmet using different models.
-
Looking good. How about a later Macedonian faction (elephants, Lysimachus, Altar at Pergamon)? Unless the Epirotes have the exact same units. Edit: Regarding the Argyraspides, suggest that they should be unlocked if there are Mauryas, Successor (Ptolemy, Seleucid, Epirotes, etc.), or Roman factions present since they were formed as veteran hypaspists when they invaded India. As @wowgetoffyourcellphone said in the opening post, all other factions will follow suit. Would suggest if some heroes use elephants or chariots, their mounts would be unlocked when they live, and the heroes can garrison them (with a few units that can join in).
