The game should have more ages and technologies
feneur replied to krillmax's topic in General Discussion
Please don't post the same thing more than once. More civilization phases are unlikely, but we will definitely add more technologies before the game is done. -
Unit voices - Translations in Sanskrit
feneur replied to Itms's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Because Sanskrit is closer in time to the period the game portrays. -

skiritai should get attack bonus from Leonidas
feneur replied to ubuntu_demon's topic in General Discussion
True, thanks for the heads up. I'll take care of it. -
I'm sorry if that was how that came across, but all I meant was that if you were no longer going to be able (due to a lack of time) to use those permissions there was no reason for you to have them. It was all about keeping things tidy, and nothing about mistrust. And as leper writes above, there's no war/treating you differently from our side, so if you feel that way it's certainly not intended. What we do want to make clear though is that we will not treat you differently from how we treat everybody else, neither negatively nor positively. The programmers try and review patches as soon as they have time, regardless of who submitted them. We do want to try our best to make sure the code is as good as possible though, and that means that even the programmers who have joined the team sometimes do things separately (whether as a patch or as a GIT branch or however they choose) to make sure bigger changes can be tested/reviewed before being included in the main SVN. Now you may agree with that in theory, but with posts such as the ones in this thread it's hard for us to get that impression of you. In other words, so far your words and your actions seems to speak of an attitude of getting things done and getting them done quickly. And there's certainly good things about that, but when it comes to a project of this size it's practically impossible for one person to fully grasp all the consequences of changing some pieces of code or other. Which is why we want to be a bit more careful than that. True, it might be slower at times, but hopefully it means both higher quality code and quicker development in the long run (if less time has to be spent fixing things later). If you want to do things in a different way and commit things as soon as possible that's something you're free to do in a fork, but please understand that it's not how we want to do things for the main repository.

Killing a trade cart should leave some resources
feneur replied to ubuntu_demon's topic in General Discussion
In a way that's already simulated via the "loot" system: i.e. when you kill an enemy unit you automatically get a small amount of resources as loot. Currently this is what you get for a trader: <Loot> <xp>10</xp> <food>1</food> <wood>1</wood> <stone>1</stone> <metal>1</metal> </Loot>We do hope that we will find a way to make it more obvious that this is happening, but it's a bit hard to find a good way to do it as it can't be too "in your face" (say having large floating text every time a unit is killed as that might get in the way of actually interacting with the units in-game), but still needs to be obvious enough for you to notice it. It can of course be done in a more direct way as well, but at least for now we want to try and not complicate things unless we are certain that they improve the game significantly. -
Or right now as I enabled it already Real people can be given these benefits sooner, spambots should hopefully never get them So in other words: Genrih -- feel free to send PMs (private messages) if you want to

No, you were not, you were told that it would have been better to do that in the first place, but I split your post out into a new thread already I'm sure I could have phrased it better though. In either case I'll close this one and add the relevant information there.

I'm assuming you mean the loading screen? (See the attached screenshot.) It usually lasts a bit longer than less than a second, but since it depends on how long it takes to load the map it can vary a lot. There is work being done that will give you the choice to have the loading screen stay until you click an "I'm ready" button (so you have time to look at the images/text, or so you can go grab a drink or something before the match starts), see http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/2087

Please create a new bug report for new bugs, and also please provide a bit more information. Judging from you posting in a thread where OpenSuse has been mentioned I would presume 13.1 means OpenSuse 13.1, but it would be nice to have some more information. Is this installed from an OpenSuse provided binary or compiled yourself? If you haven't tried searching for libicu in your distro's software manager, that's probably a good start (though I would have thought that it would have been automatically installed when you installed 0 A.D., but then again I'm not an OpenSuse user so I don't have any knowledge of that software manager).
-
Could you please provide some more information? At least which version of the game you're using. And if you're using SVN, which SVN revision you're using.
-
We will most likely include a technology tree in one way or another, if people don't want to use it -- then they don't have to
-
Apparently the Blender version that Ubuntu provides doesn't include Collada import/export due to a missing package, you should be able to install it directly from Blender.org though ( http://www.blender.org/download/ ). The .dae files can be found in data\mods\public\public.zip\art\meshes (which should be in ~/.local/share/0ad/ on Ubuntu), or rather in the sub-folders found in there.
-
There is a Git branch for the new pathfinding. And the old ones were removed because they had issues, not because they were in the way of new ones. You could still revert to an old revision/use an old Alpha if you want to play with them though.

Stan, please be a little bit more careful about what you say if you don't know for sure. It's very nice of you to want to help and all, but sometimes (as in this case) it means that you end up posting false/potentially misleading information. One or more Germanic groups is very likely to be included in 0 A.D. Empires Besieged, the second part of the game that we want to work on once 0 A.D. Empires Ascendant is finished. The first part covers 500 B.C. - 1 B.C. and the second one 1 A.D. - 500 A.D. As the Germanic peoples had a greater impact on history during the later period that's when we want to add them. Now, we are not finished with the first part yet, so no hard, definitive plans have been made yet (nor will be for quite a while), but I would be very surprised if no Germanic groups are included in Empires Besieged.

Well, seeing as you're on Windows you don't really have to understand it. Just go to the "0 A.D. Alpha" entry in your Start menu, click on "Open logs folder", and put everything you find in that folder in a zip file. Then attach that zip file to a reply here (click the "More Reply Options" button to be able to attach files). Please note that if you have played a match after you saw this error some of these files might have been overwritten, so in that case it might be better if you try and play the game a bit more. Then when/if you see the error again, immediately zip up these files and attach them here. That way you can be sure that the information is relevant to the error you saw.
-
Please take a look at http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/ReportingErrors and follow the instructions on that page (and on linked pages) for how to find the log files, and put them in a zip file, then attach those to a post in this topic.

Have changed your account so you can use the private messaging system as well now Veronica if you want to do that. Yeah, we've disabled it for new users as we had problems with spam sent via PMs. Now you either need to have 5 posts (usually we'll find a spammer account before they've made five posts), or we can change it manually, before you can use it.

Students interested in helping out
feneur replied to vmurthy's topic in Applications and Contributions
I went and split this from the known bugs topic as it deserves its own Hopefully the programmers will see this soon and be able to direct you to areas where your help would be most useful. To make the most of the time while you're waiting for that reply, please take a look at http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ and more specifically GettingStartedProgrammers and the linked resources on that page. -
You can do it on a per-map basis, but there's currently no existing controls to disable them completely (unless you want to disable advanced graphics altogether).
-
http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/GameDataPaths gives you the info for how to find them on all platforms.
-
It's actually a pretty low priority. Some things we can't do at all at this point in development as work on the engine was begun before multi-threaded CPUs became common and it's too late to rewrite the entire engine, but in many cases it's because some things are harder to do multithreaded while in development as it's harder to find bugs etc. And some things are really hard to do well as multithreaded as they might need to access the same information at the same time.

To find out how to take screenshots in 0 A.D. (and more ) please take a look at: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/HotKeys
