  1. Because we can't accurately portray these civilizations 100%. We have to pick some of the unique things about them (the Ptolemies used a lot of mercenaries) and expand upon them.
  2. For A16+ the Ptolemies will have a Mercenary Camp (that can be built anywhere, but casts no territory influence), while the Seleucids have the Military Settlement (which takes the place of the Civic Center as the chief expansion building for the Seleucids).
  3. I'll reiterate looking in the game's texture folder to see if anything will work. There are dozens of textures in there and some of them are for very similar helmets to these. Check this folder: \mods\public\art\textures\skins\props\helmet
  4. Swapping a unit is much simpler than the ramifications of yet another formation (especially when we have plans to reduce and simplify formations in preparation of making them useful). Stick to the topic at hand, please.
  5. Sometimes the "new" actors are just older actors that were newer than the even older ones. And then sometime down the road the original non-new ones were updated with even newer assets in order to confuse people even further.
  6. Mega Mania: You have convinced me. I knew full-well that the Ptolemies recruited Cretan Archers for their armies, but I was wanting to add more ethnic flair to their unit roster by including the Nubian Archers. I can probably just keep the Nubian archers in Atlas and give the Ptolemies the Cretan Archer. I don't think the Cretan Archer should be a Civic Center unit, so maybe we can put the Cretan Archer into the Mercenary Camp and resurrect the Libyan "Thureophoros" as a heavy skirmisher for the Civic Center.
  7. See if any of the existing ones in-game are useful. \mods\public\art\textures\skins\props\helmet
  8. http://www.moddb.com/games/0-ad/images/map-designing Had to trawl through Flickr's source code to find the original.
  9. That is definitely possible while still maintaining a "Greek" look. Look at all other other RTS games with a Greek faction and you'll see each one looks "different" while still maintaining the "Greekness" of the architecture.
  10. In the many many years this project has been active, every single artist's work has been edited or changed by someone else. Every single artist. It's best not to get too attached to any one specific piece of work and look at your entire body of work as a whole.
  11. I don't think they are watered down at all. They all play very differently. If you're talking about visually, then maybe. But we can continue to differentiate them visually going forward. Greek architecture is rich enough that we can make them look different while still maintaining a realistic look for each. Seleucids should look realistically like a Hellenistic civ. We can still have unique shapes and looks for their buildings, but overall they should look Greek. There has to be a million ways to make a "Greek" looking house or barracks.
  12. I'm not just talking about from a realism standpoint. Just from my own perspective a giant pile of wood and statues meant to be set on fire is not very compelling for a Wonder, which is supposed to be a structure that defines the pinnacle of that civilization.
  13. LordGood. I like what you did with the roof of the Civic Center you posted. I'd keep that. Otherwise, the Seleucids should be mostly Hellenistic. Yes, the Eastern and rural areas of the Empire would look more "Persian", but the core of the empire was the Syrian Tetrapolis, 4 Hellenistic cities built by the Seleucid kings. The strength of the empire was in its new Hellenistic cities. It's hold over rural and Eastern areas was nominal only.
  14. Hi Thorfinn. I've added your Skiritae blurb to their entity in the game. Please feel free to post more if you still have motivation.
  15. This looks really good. You should work with the team to make more maps for official releases and to improve the existing ones.
  16. It was never built. I'd rather they have a real wonder when we have so many other great structures from this age to choose from.
  17. Sigh. Viruses (and bacteria) constantly mutate, however, animal viruses and bacteria generally do not infect human hosts unless they mutate in a way that is compatible for human infection. Furthermore, these mutated viruses and bacteria likely will not make the jump to humans unless the animals from which they originate are in some way in close proximity to humans. Say, via hunting or herding these animals. In the West, for better and for worse, we are very much isolated from animals on a day to day basis. In other parts of the world, again for better and for worse, people are not isolated from animals on a day by day basis. In those situations, mutated viruses and bacteria have a better chance of infecting people and potentially starting a new pandemic. This has been the fear for a long time. See Avian Influenza.
  18. If any culture could include divergent factions, it's the German one. Soooo many tribes and confederations that were powerhouses and split off from each other. Could easily have a Goths faction that splits into Ostrogoths and Visigoths at the City Phase in some way or another.
  19. New communicable diseases tend to come from areas where there is a lot of animal to human contact. Animal bacteria and viruses mutate, then make the jump to humans. Quite a few diseases have developed this way. HIV is thought to have arisen from mutated SIV (simian, e.g. ape, HIV). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simian_immunodeficiency_virus
  20. Interesting. That's something I wanted. What kind of weight is necessary to do this for walls?
  21. Yet the empire lasted until the 15th century. I wouldn't use the word "scuppered".
  22. This sounds good. Does the lone blue Tower in your screenshot represent the "Army Camp"?
