The ship collision is cool. Could both units be affected, so the attacker gets a little backlash too? With this maybe we can have naval capturing soon, with two ships dragging side by side for boarding.2 points

These are videos from a current work in progress to implement different forces into unit motions, like inertia, knockbacks and charge attacks! The values would be very customizable in unit templates for mods too! Screencast+from+2026-06-04+23-57-24.webm Screencast+from+2026-06-18+18-01-22.webm Screencast+from+2026-06-18+17-53-13.webm1 point

These could be considered: -Artemisia I for Persians (or Carians, if part of the game at some point): naval commander. The one from the battles of Artemisium and Salamis. -Artemisia II for Persians (or Carians): naval strategist and medical researcher. Sister/wife of Mausolus, ordered the construction of his tomb: the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. -Lǚ Mǔ for Han: rebel leader that played a role in the restoration of the Han dynasty. -Teuta for Illyrians: not a playable faction still (eventually?), but since Gaia's units being more challenging has been mentioned, they could even have Heroes, and Teuta would be compatible with Gaia's piracy units (although I'd name them differently than Gaia, and reserve that for basically abandoned things).1 point

No need for discussions on this point: Fixed per commit 19fe52f328 and will be included in the next Release.1 point

Just to give you a heads up, I'm preparing a Thoughts on the Athenians post, with naval combat reserved for its Part II, where I’ll briefly explain how it really was, and what could be done about it to make it more realistic.1 point
-
It does in the video, but there are reasons why it end up just slightly slowing down the attacker. Now taking a step back from what I did empirically and reading the comments, I might just rethink some aspects that would address some defects like this one. Would be very nice, yes more realistic movements and collisions would make a boarding mechanic interesting.1 point

Could you send me a message with references to units and structures for the Qin dynasty, in order to differentiate them from the Han dynasty? I believe the key would be to gather references from the 4th century BC to the 2nd century BC.1 point

Actually, the Han dynasty inherited these states; at the very least, the Qin dynasty should be on the list of civilizations.1 point

We use one trigonometric function to determine the hit angle and deduct the amount transferred as angular velocity and add the force to right direction. It's a really nice suggestion that I like, I don't know how animating "choppy oceanic water", it would require to implement a terrain-dependent bonus or effects, then adding the force would be easy now. However i like it, not sure about what would be the timeline to even have the features enabling this.1 point
-
That effect is really well done, did you use a trigonometric function to obtain its positioning, or am I just, as usual, overthinking? I was thinking, if the game has some choppy oceanic waters at some point, that could become handy. Besides, that could give different advantages to ships, since Mediterranean ships weren’t ocean-going, unlike northern Celtic ones.1 point

What I would like to say is that I think the Warring States would fit the campaign mode for China at that time (they have different general leaders and units, but basically follow the Han structures), since apart from special units, leaders, etc., I don't think there would be many differences from the Han for a separate civ with new structures and units, though of course I could be wrong.1 point

Noted but for the videos, the unit template parameters are for the "demo". The balancing of it all will be a task on it's own , my focus at the moment is to put the features out there as most of them would be optional (so disabled/absent from unit motion). It could be possible with not too much work on the code side, now that a lot of the structure is already there. But it also require a proper animation, else would look too weird. So that's for another time.. You can note that the boat receiving the blow in the video almost seems animated here but really it's just "hacked" with some rolling motion.1 point

In DE, I've added Gorgo for Spartans (as a bonus for Leonidas: Royal Marriage). I was thinking of adding Olympias and Roxana (Rawšanak) along with one more male hero for the Macedonians (perhaps someone more "obscure", like Eumenes), for a total of 7 for them.1 point

News: Following my initial idea and combining it with the Endovelico mod (however, I'm developing it completely separately for easy application for anyone who wants to use it) World map: Made with GeoJson using the QGIS application; It is now possible to train more than one Hero/General. Coming soon: FrogWar, province defense updates, and perhaps skirmish maps entirely focused on combat, a total war-like hybrid. I'm still seeing what's possible at the moment.1 point

Please can I remind the lobby players to stay calm and take a moment to reflect on the current environment. Recently, we have observed some severe instances of toxicity and personal attacks in the lobby, especially in high level games. This is destructive to everyone. Despite being absent from the game lobby, I was able to detect the spillover aftermath. It’s becoming pretty clear that the sexual insults, heavy swearing, and targeting is putting new players off. When that kind of stuff happens, it signals that we aren't a welcoming or safe space - the already small player base shrinks further. Plus, we’re seeing a lot of unfounded claims about DDOS, exploits and market manipulation. Throwing these accusations around without proof just result in more disputes instead of solving anything. A few months ago, I introduced two of my real life colleague-friends to the game. To begin with, they really enjoyed the economy building part and cooperative strategies. However, as they started participating in high level games, the experience took a bad turn. Both of them encountered unwelcoming players, excessive swearing and long waiting times. One of them even reported being banned from a TG just because the host wanted an easy win. The other complained to me about severe sexual harassment as a part of trash talking while playing. I have also encountered all of these situations myself; it is very discomforting and discouraging to see offensive comments and accusations being thrown around as casual exchanges. Such behaviour not only damaged the image of the 0AD community but also made the real life relationship awkward between us. Some recent arguments even leaked out of the 0AD domain into my personal discord server. Let’s ensure that our discussions are respectful and contained within the appropriate space, even when we disagree. I have not posted any specific evidence here, as the goal is not to target any individual offender but to ensure that on a global level, for both new and OP players, they are able to enjoy their time, not feeling excluded or targeted. A safe space is also where privacy is protected - recording people's voice without consent and asking for their exact home address or other personal information are not appropriate. This brings us to the mindset of some OP players. We understand the drive for winning and balance. However, prioritising exclusivity over respect creates a hostile feedback loop that only reduces the talent pool and weakens the community over time. High-ranking members should lead by example, not by fostering a culture where toxicity is the default. This behavior signals that the community is unwelcoming and unsustainable. We also need to stop allowing sexual insults to define the lobby, and letting the desire for victory override basic decency. Thank you to all of you who are holding the line on respect, because your good behaviour is exactly what keeps 0AD an enjoyable game.1 point
-
To add to that: If you encounter toxicity or anything else which violates the Terms of Use of the multiplayer lobby, please notify one of the lobby moderators about it, so they can take action. That's best done by sending them a private message including details about the incident (screenshot, replays, ...) here in the forums. We can only act, if we are aware of such incidents.1 point
