I'd like to clarify, I don't think the game is completely off the first design - I'd estimate it is 80% there. You guys have done great.7 points

Hard to remember, but I think that was going all the way back to the beginning...2 points

Andy has said he's not interested in taking these maps. Best to have an an official "Legacy Maps" mod. Once we've finished polishing 30 good maps for the base game, we can polish 5-10 more maps from the Legacy Maps mod and merge them back into the game. rinse/repeat. Retold has 40 well-polished procedural maps: https://aom.heavengames.com/retold/random-maps/2 points

there is the community-maps mod why don´t move the unfinished maps there? Could also be a Official Maps mod.2 points

Topic where we can dump all of the noteworthy videos of 0 A.D. There have been other threads like this before, but I'm stickying this one. This week, I found: 43 minute run-through of Death Canyon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsDya5qG-AQ 5 minute commentary video1 point

Ha! Apparently, the older I get the more senile I am... OT Side note - Michael (and others) have you looked into using AI to generate more art content? Can it generate textures? I'm sure it could do things like icons and portraits (like your avatar). Have you guys looked into some of the music it makes? I even saw how there is a version that generates sound effects. Have you guys looked into feeding it the Prometheus code base and had it review it for bugs/glitches. It might even enable some technically minded non-programmer type people to write some scripts?1 point

The other (small) annoying thing with Random maps is there is no way to grab the seed. For example if you end up in a procedural map that you very much enjoy it's a bit of a pain to dig down to find the seed (and no real way to regenerate). This is not a very common case - but I think at one point I recommended you should be able to "Save Game" (save game state) and also "Save Map" (save map setup).1 point

the ones i found all use "random maps", but maybe we are just the first to break from the status quo. I think its originally because resources are randomly placed. edit: that being said, the juice might not be worth the squeeze as there are a lot of "Random" to change to "Generated"1 point

Heavy Spear Cav regularly decides games. An army with 10-20 champs and 100 citizen soldiers wins against an army of 150 citizen soldiers. I have played quite a few games where someone trained a lot more than 40 champions (often 100, but up to 300). But you are correct that you can almost never make an army consisting *only* of champions... Which is good, imho. No army ever had only veteran soldiers1 point

His voice sounds male and he didnt really react when we referred to him as "he". Im not sure, but I dont think Astra and Yeka are the same person (Lets not be hasty with assumptions). When he expressed his opinion, he sounded like he truly wanted to improve the community, rather than destroy it (I could just be gullible, but I'd like to see the good in people). I do not agree with some of his methods, but I dont think @Norse_Harolds evaluation of his situation is entirely objective. As far as I understand, you have quite the history? He expressed very high animosity towards you, even going so far as to say he'll only play as long as you arent around. He proclaimed that he felt treated unfairly, being harrassed greatly for minor misdemeanors. He also said @Norse_Harold tried to pressure him into working for 0ad, I cite "he tried to enslave me to do dev work for 0ad." (I don't believe this is true, btw. But I deem it very possible that he misunderstood Norse' intentions) He actually shared a link to various cheats, the reason being, according to him, to "provoke Geriatrix" as "The moderators have failed again" (in his opinion, more must be done against Geriatrix bad behaviour) and "it's time to take things into your own hands and defend yourselves" (against Geri). Why am I posting this? I do not know. Probably because I talked a bit with yeka and had a good time, but I also believe that Norse is doing good work and his contribution to 0ad is extremely important, and I would like to see both of you getting along. Also, yeka could do a lot of good things for 0ad, if he set his mind to it... Maybe thats just wishful thinking. Edit: I realized this might be off topic? Im not sure if thats a big problem, should I delete this?1 point

Right Probably the wrong threat (apologies!) but I just remembered Settlers V where there was the ability to put pit traps and booby traps (not very historical though), able to create limited damage (killing one enemy soldier). If I recollect some reports on the strategy used by Julius Caesar in his siege of Alesia, Romans were using traps as well to protect their backs from approaching enemies. This would require a new game mechanism but might be a cool feature to add at a later stage. What do you think?1 point

That would be a fun monster. But, personally, I'd prefer to command a happy whistling mouse. Then a murderous woman cursed by the gods.1 point

RookeloosNL, your ideas sound interesting and I enjoyed reading them - though I fear another resource would make players angry. My position is to make the slaves capturable and Niek's proposal sounds impressive. Bearing goods and assisting units, e.g. repairing machines, is what slaves indeed should be able do if we wanted to circumvent the fact that captured enemy champions could only fight once captured. Champions only could fight as we can't exchange whole templates which is not possible per tech-research yet too and might never be (but don't worry it's not really needed too as actor exchange on tech research is just as powerful and Sander already added that). As to my knowledge it's possible to modify template values but it's not possible to add capability to gather to champions per tech research. Please tell me if I'm wrong. It might well be that deactivating and activating such capabilities is possible. I also like the upkeep cost, though I would prefer to have those for other units too. Perhaps we can somehow involve your market idea for trading slaves.1 point

Here's one way to do it: It requires that you have built a market. Upon killing a human unit, there is a certain chance of a unit spawning inside a market "Being garrisoned". These can be considered, "Slave Points". Slave points are a resource, and they are used to do pay for specialized units that focus on a specific aspect of resource gathering or can be sold for a stable amount of metal. With slave points you can create slaves. Slaves are units that train incredibly quickly and do very well in a certain aspect of the economy (Mining, farming, etc.). Their downside is that they cannot fight, are very weak, and have an upkeep cost. To support one slave unit, it costs 1 food and 1 wood per second while it is alive. There are various slaves you can train: Mining Slave: Costs 1 slave point and 100 of metal and stone. Mines both much faster. Cutting Slave: Costs 1 slave point and 100 wood. Chops wood much faster. Farming Slave: Costs 1 slave point and 100 food. Harvests from farms much faster. Or you can sell your slave points. 1 slave point could equal 100 metal. The benefit of slaves is that you can boost your economy much quicker, which could help someone who is on the defensive, as long as they can efficiently kill enemy units. At the same time, slaves can substitute citizen soldiers in the labour intensive resources such as wood and mining, which means you have more army to command. The negatives is that once various resources are gone, their use is done and you have to kill them.1 point
