  1. Latest stuff for DE. Trying some "alpine"/"arctic"/"winter" textures and maps. This one I may title: Cisalpine Winter (2 players) PLEASE COMMIT THE MAP RESIZING PATCH FOR ATLAS. THANK YOU. lol That way I can start making 2, 4, and 6 player versions of skirmish maps.

  2. Thank you so much for this information. I also am fascinated by elephants. I spent 6 months in Gamba, Gabon, and often the Forest Elephants would visit the airport. The first thing I noticed when I saw them, was how much straighter their tusks were than other elephants I had seen in Nepal (Asian Elephants) and Botswana (African Savanna Elephants).

  3. @Alexandermb, @Stan`, @Nescio, the topic of war elephants recently surfaced in the thread : ===[TASK]=== Animations Re-Export and Unit Meshes Fix I didn't want to muddle up the thread so I thought i'd start a more specific one. We were discussing whether the scales on the armor of Seleucid war elephants were turned upside down. I shared a page from a book on war elephants that stated that the Seleucids turned the scales on their elephant armor upside down for better protection against upward thrusts, but it didn't mention the original classical source. The same text also said that the Seleucids also switched to smaller numbers of African elephants in later years, because Indian elephants were becoming difficult to acquire. Again, the original source for this statement eludes us. But I did find something very, very interesting. It had been staring me in the face all this time, and I never noticed... The wikipedia page on the now extinct North African Elephant (Loxodonta Africana Pharaohensis) features an image of a fragmented Roman bronze statue of a war-elephant, currently in the Staatliche Antikensammlungen in Munich. It's an African war elephant with scales turned upside down! Now, I don't know if this piece is supposed to depict a Roman, Seleucid or even Ptolemaic or Carthaginian war elephant, but it does show an African elephant, probably the smaller North African type with the unique, aforementioned type of armor, so I just had to share it... Bonus: Historical reenactors using actual African forest elephants for their Punic troops. African forest elephants, though rare, aren't extinct (yet). They have the same stature as the North African Elephant. Note how "tiny" these elephants are compared to the enormous African Bush Elephant (and noticeably smaller than the Indian ones as well)... Alexander, you see your colored Phrygian helmets? Second bonus, very rare historical photographs of Africans riding African elephants (most of these also look like forest elephants): Third bonus, people riding full sized African Bush Elephants. I've always been told that this is impossible, so imagine my confusion when my sister came back from a trip in Zimbabwe, telling me she took a ride on the back of an African Bush Elephant. She did tell me they're difficult to control, and they mostly sort of go where they want to go, lol, but it is apparently possible to ride them. If you're patient enough... 4th Bonus Bush elephant choreography? Anno early 1900's? Looks like some kind of forgotten colonial project/experiment... Not sure... Not even sure where this is... 55580618_324172821782360_7280992477606051840_n.mp4

  7. The menu is kinda clunky for registering and signing in. I couldn't take the sword and use it. Perhaps add https too. I didn't find any resources on map and it's quite easy to avoid enemies.

  10. The request has a well-meaning motive, but it's also irrational for the game. It creates a slippery slope. You might as well request 0 A.D. to disable cutting down trees for the same reason. Burning down buildings can also fall under that category. Leaving dead people in the battlefield creates an environmental hazard as well (even IF war ancient traditions allow mutual burials post-skirmishes - we mostly have looting). If your limit is only for animals, then yes, there might be a modder that can do that. But you're taking away a gameplay feature... which isn't good for a game that is recently putting a heavy emphasis on balance.

  13. True... But, just for the sake of being argumentative, one could argue that hunting is overrepresented in RTS-games like 0AD, which depict sedentary agro-pastoralist cultures and civilizations that by and large didn't really depend much on hunting for food. Then again, it's a game of ancient warfare and I assume that armies on campaign would depend a lot more on hunting than the average village peasant. So, there's that...

  14. Actually vegetarianism and to a degree, veganism did exist during Antiquity. Particularly among some Hindu and Buddhist groups. Jainism is explicitly vegetarian. Chinese Taoist monks are also vegetarian/vegan. Zoroastrianism explicitly promotes vegetarianism. Some Greek philosophical traditions supported vegetarianism. Some Jewish sects and individuals followed vegetarian lifestyles. A lot of of especially Orthodox Christian monastic traditions and ascetics also encourage vegetarianism. Many Islamic Sufi's are also vegetarian. There are definitely more. I'm not saying it should or even can be depicted in-game. Just adding some nuance.

  15. @m7600, @Ultimate Aurelian, some stuff I'm sure you'll enjoy! From the lands of Sundiata, comes absolutely heavenly music. Kora music by the Griots, or "Jali" of the old Mali Empire. This is one of the most beautiful pieces I know. Brings tears to my eyes, actually: Add the heavenly female voice of Sona Jobarteh, one of the few female griots in the world, and I'm left speechless: Two absolute legends... Old men playing desert blues... "The world is not changed by man. Man is changed by the world"- Traditional Bambara music from Mali, by Fatoumata Diawara, mixed with traditional European orchestra, creates a beautiful lamentation, decrying the fall of Timbuktu to extremists in 2012: Some very sweet Tuareg music: Similarly sweet Tuareg music: More desert blues (or rock?), by Bombino, in Agadez (more Tuareg music): Modern Hausa/Fulani music by Di'Ja, mixing traditional elements (really cool video): Of course, I also have to share one of my new all-time favorites! A modern Arab-Sudanese Afrobeat, called "Kandaka", from the ancient Kushite titles for Queens and Queen-mothers (Kandake). It's a love song for Sudanese women in general: (I love the ankh around the wrist of Mazmars... The Sudanese have not forgotten who they are ) This last one is a little more abstract. People sometimes say, Hip Hop is dead. Some people don't understand what it means, because they think that what they see on the tv is Hip Hop. But it's not. Hip Hop is a vehicle for change and revolution. It's a form of media for the disenfranchised masses. A means of communicating ideas, philosophies, news and poetry, for people that had few other means available to them. It's essentially open source music before open source was even a thing. Most popular Hip Hop these days is "compromised" in this sense. But sometimes "real" Hip Hop still appears in places you'd least expect it. Like this one (use subtitles): Of course I also just love it because he says that Taharqa is his grandfather and the Queen mother of Kush is his grandmother

  16. I'm locking this thread, seems like it's just attracting insults and rudeness. Please try and be nice to each other. It might seem innocent to you, but you never know how others react, especially in an international context like this when not everyone has got English as their first language.
