  1. Before Ubuntu came up with Snap, I could find and change various ".js" files to modify the game behaviour. With Snap, the game runs perfect, but I cannot find any of the ".js" files. Maybe they are compressed somewhere? Can anybody assist me in where I can read about finding the ".js" files in a Snap version of 0AD. Thank you.
  2. I love Danubius. I have beaten Gaia a few times using Seleucids. There is one map I like. It has many cliffs and mesas that I can climb and defend. It also has some narrow channels so I can attack the Gaia ships with war elephants. Is it possible to replay a game using the exact same map, same Gaia, but a different faction. I want to try Mauryas. Thanks for who ever designed that map..Well done.
  3. I personally find night time to be "not fun". When ever night happens, I just quit. If there is a day/night cycle, I wish it could be disabled. Does anybody know of a way to stop night time in scenarios?
  4. When my ego needs a boost, I play 0 A.D. on a large or extra large map with sparse resources, (like Botswana Haven, or Anatolian Plateau), and play as the Mauryans against the AI. Because the Mauryans have the mobile drop sites, you get a very real advantage in gathering resources over the enemy that is limited in where he can get resources. I prefer to play "Nomad", where I have to find a good place for my first Civic Center. I am gathering resources with my Worker elephant long before I even build the Center. This allows me to spend more time finding a good place for the Civic Center. With sparse food resources on a map, I first build a few corrals on the corners of the Civic Center, and make a fence between them to trap all sheep or Zebus. Put Women or Cavalry in the fenced area and have them harvest the animals as fast as they are made. Corrals require more micro management than farming, but food rewards are much higher. By mid game I try to constantly make 6 zebu per corral. With the Mauryans, I build a Fortress as soon as possible, and make Maiden Archers from the big elephant. By end game I try to have about 30 Maiden archers. They are fast shooting and long range. If retreating with the archers, I split them into two groups, and have the left group fire while the right group retreats a bit, then the right group fires while the left group retreats. The AI seems to attack whom ever is shooting at them, so the bad guys zig-zag. DON'T let the melee enemy get near your archers, because they will kill them quick. Another trick with any type of archer, is to garrison them in a building, when the enemy is attacking, pop out about 10 archers, and fire at the bad guys until the bad guy attack back, then quickly re-garrison the archers. It is easy for the archers to pop out one side of a building, fire a bit, re-garrison, and pop out the other side for a bit more firing. For this reason I always put my Fortress, Barracks, and Civic Centres apart. Archers can pop out to protect another building that is not too close, but still in archer range. Because the enemy usually attacks via the shortest route, use the early game horse to find the enemy location. Then gather resources away from the path, using Worker Elephants, off to the side, out of sight from the enemy the whole game. One of the first town defences are towers. Put the towers near resources, so the 5 archers are always gathering stone or steel right next to the tower. They can quickly garrison. On some maps, make a farm next to the tower so the archers are farming until needed in the towers. On some maps, (like Polar Sea, or Danubius) elephants don't help me much. I prefer to play as the Persians then. Still good archers, and still elephants if I want. Expert know all this, but maybe it will help some beginners having a hard time with early success.
  5. I just noticed that the archers are able to shoot at walruses and whales, so the limitation on archers shooting wolves must be intentional.
  6. You are correct that global total would be best, but I think the total wolf count is infinity. I could change the number of wolves at each spawn, and the time between spawns.I was also able to change the time until the "first" spawn of wolves. I didn't want to change the game to make it easier, I just wanted the game to NOT stop my computer. I think being attacked by a thousand wolves is very similar to being attacked by 10,000 wolves. All the attacking wolves feels sort of zombie like :-)
  7. I like the challenge of the attacking wolves in "polar_sea", but after about 20 minutes my computer slows way down and soon is doing an update every few seconds. This is because of so many wolves. I am guessing 500 or 1000. This makes the game unplayable. I went to the "polar_sea_triggers.js" file and made the delay of wolf spawning from 1000 to 1500. This still gives a whole lot of wolves, but I can now kill them fast enough to keep the computer from slowing down too much. The AI, used by the enemy is not very good against the wolves. Even after an hour, the enemy (usually Spartans) are still in town phase. I always play Mauryans. The ranged units (Longbowmen Archers, Elephant Archers, and Indian Light Calvary) will never shoot arrows or Javelins. Ranged Units will only slaughter. I am sure this is a bug. A Bamboo Spearman is better at killing wolves than a ranged unit is. I used many War Elephants to sacrifice themselves while guarding Bamboo Spearman, that were building a Fortress. Once I had a Fortress, I was able to try Maiden Archers against the wolves. Maiden Archer fired arrows fast and long ranged like normal, and the wolves stood no chance. Maiden Archers rule. 0 A.D. is a wonderful game. Thank you to the designers, very much.
  8. Thank you so much for this information. I also am fascinated by elephants. I spent 6 months in Gamba, Gabon, and often the Forest Elephants would visit the airport. The first thing I noticed when I saw them, was how much straighter their tusks were than other elephants I had seen in Nepal (Asian Elephants) and Botswana (African Savanna Elephants).
  9. My thoughts, regarding the addition of African Elephants to the game. The Elephants used by Hannibal Barca were probably not either Asian, or African Elephants. 2000 years ago the southern part of Algeria and Morocco was much greener, and was inhabited with Forest Elephants. These are less than half the weight of African Elephants. Now a days, Forest Elephants are only found in Gabon and Central African republic. Because the average age of Hannibal's Elephants was about 50 years old, and his lead Elephants were 60 years old, Elephants were most likely captured in the wild and then tamed. If Hannibal's Elephants were African Elephants, they would need to have been herded almost 500 miles. Herding male African Elephants is like herding cats. African Elephant herds are always females and young. Males are solitary, and anti-social. All Hannibal's Elephants were male. Females run from males, and would trample friendly forces. I find it improbable that the Carthaginians were able to train or tame African Elephants. Even old Tarzan movies used Asian Elephants, because African Elephants are so un-trainable. Forest Elephants were much more available, and lots closer. A Forest Elephant eats almost half as much as an African Elephant . Hannibal started with 40 Elephants. Each eats 400 pounds of food a day. So Hannibal would have needed to carry 8 tons of Elephant food for each day. Elephant food was scarce in the Alps. Hannibal would have preferred to have Forest Elephants, eating half as much. This all my personal thinking. I love the war elephants in the game.
