  1. Yes, 0 A.D. is quite similar to Age of Empires, as are Command & Conquer, Cossacks, Empire Earth, Rise of Nations, and many other games, which is probably unavoidable. Citizen-soldiers, capturable buildings, and territory are rather minor points. There are just two fundamental differences: 0 A.D. is free and open source (and available for many different operating systems) and can thus be adapted, modified, or serve as a basis for future games. 0 A.D. has been in development for years and is unlikely to be finished in the forseeable future. Those looking for an end product might regret the second point; personally I think it's actually the greatest strength that the game is in constant development and will possibly never be finished. 0 A.D. can always be changed, updated, improved, and expanded, unlike commercial games designed for profit, which have to be released at a certain date and won't be changed afterwards. Yes, 0 A.D. is far from perfect, I'm the first to admit that. However, keep in mind it's still an Alpha. Nevertheless, the game is already playable, enjoyable, and modifiable, which is simply great. We should be grateful for everyone who has contributed in the past and for everyone who's currently helping to improve the game. Yes, 0 A.D.'s “Empires Ascendant” default distribution certainly has to be improved. However, different people have different ideas, and in group projects such as this it's often quite hard to find concensus on how to change the status quo. Far more important than the actual content (art, factions, templates, unit statistics, etc.) are the efficiency and performance of the underlying engine and the need for a capable and flexible AI. Everyone who watches https://code.wildfiregames.com/ can see that every day several people work on improving the game. Undoubtedly many persons have left over the years, but others are still contributing, and new people are always welcome. As long as that remains the case, progress is constantly made, and 0 A.D., which already is a great game, can only get better.

  2. I will just point that this is not a waste of time, it's a game engine. A lot of people have throw a lot of effort, not only modders. But a proper game design will make the game shine or not.

  3. Is anybody else ready for some Total War style mechanics in 0AD? I know I am... A lockable battalion system keeps popping up as a requested feature. Being able to add any unit you like to a battalion (with different advantages/disadvantages), and then locking that battalion, would make you select the entire battalion upon clicking one unit within that battalion. Being able to add these battalions to lockable armies (which you can compose any way you like) would be an awesome system. This should be done with easy to understand buttons, where you also set formations and stances. This would make managing large armies a lot more pleasant. On the more recent models of MacBook pro, 0AD runs like a doozy. I can play with over a thousand pop, without any serious hiccups. I imagine that in future, with more improvements to the game, this ability to generate so many units will be utilised to create much more epic gameplay.

  5. 3) When your units chop wood and you give e.g. a shift + move command they will not execute that move command until they finished chopping wood. That is the sense of Shift + command...

  6. I'd like to make a civ for them. Doesn't have to be accurate but it's hard not to fall in the clichés.

  7. I think we need elephant stables and siege workshops for all the civs where applicable tbqh

  8. Hello, I am a new comer here. I started playing 0 a.d. for 2 weeks now and one thing caught my attention, the battle formation. I really like the mechanics right now where you can actually work on your formation pretty well, however, I think it might be easier to handle if there is an option to lock the formation. With the mechanics we have right now, all we need to do is for the army themselves to stick into their formation with a lock button(I guess). I love the game, just some suggestion I have since I was struggling a little bit to keep the army in their formation with the auto attack in place and if you put it in passive or defensive mode the auto attack still doesn't really help when they make contact with their enemy. So, I suggest having a "Lock Formation" button in the formation tab just to make the strategy more realistic and easier to handle as well. I am happy for any comment on this idea.

  9. Hi everyone, You'll find here slightly modified female meshes. Not a big deal... just to give female actors a (IMHO) nicer look. If @stanislas69 didn't suggested me strongly to post it, I would never have made public this personal modification. In the game, the differences are quite unnoticeable: Original meshes are on the right. A better view in Atlas: (people offended by breast nudity shouldn't open this) You'll find the modified meshes used by the game in the first archive. If you don't already know where to put them, create the '../art/meshes/skeletal/new' folder in the 'mods/public' of your local folder. Friendly, newFemMeshes.zip amazonMesh.zip

  13. So many mods, so many people working on essentially the same - making the graphic demo somewhat playable. Some a bit more design oriented, and others stats oriented. But still. If the dev staff would actually at least use one of those concepts as a base game this would be honestly a huge milestone. But obviously it's better to stick with an unenjoyable mess than to make soemthing out of the potential. Also, see below. tbh after the announcement of AoE II DE, AoE I DE and AoE IV I don't see much reason to work on this unless the dev staff gets their guts together to build something different than a mediocre AoE clone. I said it in the past that it's a waste of time, remember guys? And no, I'm not sarcastic at this point. I'm pretty disappointed tbh. This comment was extremely rude. This attitude breaks communities and ultimately damages the project you're working on.You pretty much showed that you have absolutely ZERO apprecation on wow's hard work on DE. ESPECAILLY considering that 0 AD without any gameplay related mod literally is a piece of @#$% to play, more like an (admittedly pretty) tech demo than a game at all. If someone on my staff in Eastern Front would show this kind of attitude would be kicked off the team immediately, unless a proper apology and reasoning is given - and the issue would not be repeated again. That's the main reason why the resources (the limited time/motivation of modders contributing) must be used as efficiently as possible. The issue is that there should be people on the staff who actually concentrate and channel the "free contributions" into a proper game concept, and then work towards finishing it. This is the main issue with 0 AD, and has been this way since years. And after so many years I think the development has lost all its momentum - and it's unlikely you'll get it started again. Maybe restarting the project completely with a new staff, using the current 0 AD as a base and recruiting new people would help.

  14. I'd be ok with this but first need to have icons for both of them. No, the usual temple icon will not do for the Apedemak one.

  15. Updated to 22.1.1 What has changed: Replaced heroes Piye and Amanitore with Nastasen and Arakamani. - Interesting and possibly unique auras. Fixed civic centre garrison and wonder errors. Reduced the selection of Village Phase units. Units now start with only 80% of original speed vox_populi_22.1.1.zip

  17. Why didn't I think of that, lol! But that still doesn't take away the discrepancies: We have a perfect Apedemak temple: but the model is now used as a "genereric" temple. Apedemak temple upgrade turns it into not-an-Apedemak temple... We have a perfect Amun temple: This is now cut in half and replaced with something that is not an Amun temple... Why???

  18. easy, build the temples back to back to back and then upgrade them accordingly ta-da whole model

  19. I think this should be possible with relative small changes in Foundation and Builder components, for example adding an 'autobuild' flag to relevant building templates (probably with a 'builder rate' specified), adding an automatic 'builder' in Foundation for such buildings and restricting the regular builders to join construction. We need something like this in the space mod too (the idea is to place a beacon/landing pad-looking foundation and then a spaceship will arrive after some time), but I didn't manage to experiment with this feature yet. Another a bit inconvenient but already available alternative should be building foundations (logically) as finished buildings (technically) and then using the upgrade feature to convert to the finished building state. But this will require player to manually upgrade each foundation. This probably may be not so bad if there would be some generic foundations of different sizes and then player would be able to select a number of finished buildings for each of them (like sunken/spore colonies in starcraft).

  20. Version kd not complete yet? The Nuba clubman can’t seem to gain promotion. But it’s playable though... The kushite temple upgrade is really fun and did not occupy more space after upgrade. Kushite has many units! Really nice but I guess you did not include the cavalry archer huh. I think it was present in DE.

  21. That's not how things work though. If there is no license you can assume that the thing grants you no rights at all. So add a license, and take care where you get your files from.
