Hello everyone! I’m back with some new updates on the development of World Rising! The Rivers of Japan map is finally complete, with 100% of its flora now implemented! I’ve also added new terrain relief and integrated the dynamic weather system, including rain and thunderstorms, making the environment feel much more alive and dynamic. In the future, the only major addition planned for this map will be the new animals that are still being developed. I’ve also created several new particles and visual effects. Now, when women pray, a beam of light appears at the temple during the ritual. I’m planning to create something similar for priests, with special visual effects appearing while they heal units. I’ve also updated the resource-gathering accessories used by units and made some changes to the Yayoi merchant. Work has already begun on our second map: the Coast of Japan! I’ve created the first textures and I’m currently working on the vegetation for this new biome. I’ll be sharing the first screenshots very soon! The Yayoi culture also continues to grow, with more technologies and new buildings being added and tested. Development continues step by step, with new content, visual improvements, and gameplay systems gradually coming together to make World Rising more complete and unique. Thank you to everyone who continues to follow the project! Leave your comments, share your thoughts, and keep participating in the development! More updates are coming soon!

My problem with 0 AD is troop control and the behavior of unitAI.js It is literally a colossus of code and a Gordian knot. Many fear that the controls will make it less of an authentic RTS like the classics, but it is necessary to improve the control and behavior of the troops. Age of mythology feels better without having something so complex. Another idea I have is that priests can regenerate loyalty points upon capture. Priests are part of the identity and folklore of cultures; they tell myths and explain the will of the gods to their devotees. I think the game could have variations of the traditional game without becoming a mod.

Implementing forces in Unit Motion (HELP WANTED)
Thalatta replied to Atrik's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Maybe it would be nice to have some custom scenario with all put in place to test everything (elephants going around tight spaces, them and cavalry charging infantry, ship collisions, etc), while knowing what the idea for each should be. Then we can compare different implementations in many particular situations. -

@real_tabasco_sauce there is nothing that force elephants or boats to be "solids". Above you have videos of cavalry charging some civilians, you can see it's still doing some physics, but if you don't add "solids" to boats and elephants : 1. Their collision area is a circle at its center, so things that hit him and that he hit don't spin him as much as you'll expect have to hit him at center, front and back are ghost parts you can just go through are weaker (elastic) 2. Path-finding don't ignore idle units so they are considered as obstacles -
Implementing forces in Unit Motion (HELP WANTED)

Well apparently this thread is already about trying to get units that both try to not overlap, and still manage to move around in groups of 50 without too much weird stuff happening... -
Written down in their present form in the High Middle Ages. Even if they refer to supposed events from a millennium earlier, it's hard to know by then what external influences and other anachronisms could have crept in in the story (as I've recently mentioned happens with funerary practices in the Iliad, where half that time passed).
-
They are apparently mentioned in epics https://celt.ucc.ie/published/T301035/text021.html https://celt.ucc.ie/published/T301021/text086.html Now those might just be exaggerations, which does bring into question how accurate other passages about chariots are. Although i think the Irish may have actually had chariots (but probably not with blades), as you have mentioned before in the thread there is evidence in some metal fittings and their word for chariot.

Furthermore, the Old Irish carpat (ˈkaɾ.bəd̪) for chariot can only be derived from a Celtic language. A borrowing from Latin would have resulted in a completely different form and pronunciation.

Game Balance: Battering Rams, the 0 A.D. tanks?...
Nicolaus_von_Kues replied to krt0143's topic in Gameplay Discussion
The game's fundamentals have definitely been altered. It's easy to build branches that can then bypass defenses and reach the Civic Center. In theory they should hold up, but not that much armor. -

Nicolaus_von_Kues replied to krt0143's topic in Gameplay Discussion
If it's like a pirate society but on land, some groups are just as aggressive as a wasps' nest, while others are simply aggressive. But these are societies that can easily create an army. I remember reading about the Gallo-Romans; having many Celts in their composition meant they could have levy militia troops, and this was true even in the Middle Ages. -
No I don't think so. Pomponius Mela is the first to mention this implausible description but he was a notorious armchair geographer. Later on, several poets mentioned the scythed chariots but they were fabricating things. Thus, no scythed chariot. The reliable primary sources do not mention scythed chariots.

Others RTS - Discuss / Analysis
Nicolaus_von_Kues replied to Lion.Kanzen's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I don't know if it's an RTS, but it looks interesting and cool. -
Is it possible they had blades on their chariots? I think scythe chariots show up in some Irish myths and Roman accounts about the Britons. But ive also read those only existed in the near east.

Implementing forces in Unit Motion (HELP WANTED)
Atrik replied to Atrik's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
Yes but it might not be the reason they freeze here, I think in your video it's mostly elephants pushing on each other's butts so they have a hard time facing the right direction and continue walking. Or maybe trying to reach a waypoint - a intermediate path goal, given by pathfinder -, but since a bunch of elephants are in the way, they wait trying to reach it. I think I can try to make these better. However I'll disclaim once again that this new "solid" propriety was designed for rare units, to have a very visible superiority when they collide with normal smaller units. So a large herd of elephants that get this "solid", will always be less agile then other units : they are not made to be in large groups. -
A question came to mind while watching this freezing behavior: do elephants also receive that small "stun" when they are pushed? I wonder if that could be what causes some of the elephants to get stuck. An elephant gets pushed constantly and therefore never manages to leave the stunned state, making it look like it has stopped moving altogether.

@Atrik, I tested the latest changes you pushed in commit aec6e57f96 The elephant blob looks really good to me. There are still some small bouncing effects, but it seems to be improving in the right direction. As for movement around corners and through narrow paths, the behavior is still failing too often. I've included some videos of the tests I ran: Ele blob test Walking around corners and through narrow path: First test, no micro at all: In this second example, I helped them with some micro to get them to their destination. The results are better, but I still see it failing quite often. And paradoxically, the group without any micro performed better than the group I microed. As for moving through narrow paths, I got similar results to the previous test. The elephants get stuck at the entrance to the narrow path, and after a few attempts, some of them stop moving completely, permanently blocking the other elephants from getting through. It can also be seen that some of them get stuck on each other in an open area, significantly slowing down a group of them well before they reach the narrow area with the houses. In this second attempt, I helped them spread out a bit and enter through different spots, but the result was more or less the same. Something strange also happened with the group at the top. I assume this is a pathfinder issue. For some reason, the elephants at the back of the group decide that the best path is to go around the forest. As a result, one of them runs into another elephant that is heading in the right direction, and the "elephanting" begins ( aka "elefant traffic jam" ) In this last test, I send them back from the base. Look at what happens with the group at the top. One elephant tries to join the "path line", so to speak, and after a couple of bounces, it rebels and decides to stop moving altogether. As a good emperor, I ended up executing it. I'm a bit short on time, so I wrote this rather quickly and haven't been able to go into much more detail. I hope this is still useful for continuing to improve the PR.

I think it hasn't been mentioned, but apparently British horses were smaller (yet sturdy), enhancing the utility of chariots when compared with just mounting them (https://www.shadow-of-the-wall.co.uk/bone_evidence.html). There's also the idea of that being ritualistic for elite warriors. On top of all this, Celtic vehicles seem advanced, since "the Roman Empire benefited from the contributions of Celtic technology (Schonfelder 2002), as the specialized Latin vocabulary tends to show. A rich terminology for land vehicles borrowed from Celtic-including henna, carpentum, carruca, carrus, cisium, covinus, currus, petoritum, pilentum, plaustrum, sarracum, and triga-is indicative of the growing functionality of Roman vehicles", from The Oxford Handbook of Engineering and Technology in the Classical World, by J. P. Oleson, and "the Latin word carpentum mentioned in Isidore – from which the English word "carpenter" descended – in fact was borrowed by the Romans from the Celtic word for a special type of cart. Perhaps because of the plentiful supplies of high-quality wood in Gaul, the Gallic woodworkers were particularly skilled in the production in wood of sophisticated vehicles and machinery such as force pumps and water mills", from Greek and Roman Technology, by A. N. Sherwood.

0 AD has good visibility in its niches, Linux games, it literally has no competition in that branch. I mentioned to Stan a while ago that he should publish on another indie store, and I saw that it's popular there, at least in strategy gaming niche. On the internet it has been losing visibility along with the decline of RTS. Real-time strategy games (RTS) are a genre that innovates very little. They tend to sell very little and fail to appeal to a wide audience. There are many videos with such analyses. I don't know if I should have more of a presence on X. I think X is quite huge; the people from those platforms are also on Threads, which is connected to Instagram, all this in the face of Facebook's precarious situation. Facebook increasingly resembles a no-man's land, filled with memes and mainstream news, A horrible algorithm, it seems like Threads is taking space away from FB itself. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/05/technology/threads-meta-twitter-x.html -

Yeah a lot of promotional material is made by hand, and video is a bit too hard to come buy. And so far, mentioning no AI content has deterred all the volunteers. Since i don't have much time these days I haven't posted things in a while. For miniatures you need a phone number, and so far I have not been willing to use mine That's why it's always the same / from the video. Yeah so that won't happen really (I mean judging from the past ten years) Regarding donators, we're pretty fine because we're open source, (sure it could always be better, but the only costs are maintaining the server) We had a bridge at some point but due to GDPR we can't ensure that the data you share will be deleted on all platforms it's being shared on. Discord is pretty bad for that for instance. A few people also don't want their data shared on proprietary platforms. And it's hard to get consent uniformly. -
Some who argue for Irish using chariots believe they were used in a similar way to the chariots of the Britons (transporting elites to battle). From Caesar's gallic wars
