LordGood
bleep bloopThanks Ludo!nothing shiny to exploit here, and hey, a face! woot!I added the darks later, to keep more of the true colorsI have a feeling that the true colors are not very saturated themselves, like the light brown fabric of the shirt, or the woven hat and shield
Ludo38
again a hidden face !! Well, I understand you if you prefer hiding parts that you don't draw best, but that would be really an improvement if we could have at least one of these icons with a full and clear face. That would give some life, wouldn't it ?.. Out of that, that character is very well drawn. Just a bit too dark. Turn up the contrast and it should be fine. Shield Bearer
I don't think faces are actually that necessary. I think what you have is quite good, but perhaps a closer shot would be better? Your rim lighting is getting better, but I don't think it should be a pure white color. I believe a lighter shade of whatever colour would look better. Maybe try and overlay of white? Lion.Kanzen
Epic Archer.
tribalbeat
It is important when making these icons to make sure to communicate what the unit actually is rather than what looks coolest. That said, the archer hits the sweet spot of both. Great job!
LordGood
Thanks guys Given the nature of this unit, I don't think I can help but keep the string in his face xPA closer crop might be a bit difficult too, since we should see the bow and his side, at least that's what I thinkClose crops are going to be a real pain for the cavalry units >.<So I should dilute the white rim light and add a more sand colored one, but the colors I would be using are already dominant on the light side. The white almost seems like a welcome cool chromaI dunno, I'll throw blue at rim and 'trim the fat' on the image I suppose. See what works
LordGood
Lion i really think the Italian cavalry spearman should hold his spear below his shoulder, above and he could be confused for a cavalry skirmisherthe pose would be great for the Numidian cavalry though Edited March 25, 2013 by LordGood
LordGood
Numidian cavalry sketch?Despite my constant drawing of ponies, my ability to draw equestrians is still sub-par Edited March 26, 2013 by LordGood
Shield Bearer
Looks pretty good actually, just get rid of the horse's funny look eyes and your good to go And the soldier's hand could use some better molding. Besides that, the thumb should come over the fingers, probably somewhere in between and above the middle two fingers
ribez
yeah... only the eyes are a little ponies like... but otherwise it's a great sketch
Thorfinn the Shallow Minded
I like the sketch, but the fellow should probably hold a couple more javelins in his left hand in order to identify his skirmisher class.
LordGood
Thanks guys, I fixed it!loli still need to give him a few more javelins but apart from that I think I fixed his face and the horse's head, maybe his handso how is this one looking? Shield Bearer
Lol, the eye has come out too big and is rotated at an angle Maybe try looking at some real horse pictures to get an idea of where the eye's sposed to be?Here are just a few quick corrections I made. The hand shows where the thumb's is supposed to be (try hold something like that in your hand and you'll see). And I made some changes to the mouth. Looks kinda weird with it open like that Also I tried to place the eye in the right place...but I'm far from it it would seem Here's a good reference for the face(of the horse), just flip it and its good I think http://3.bp.blogspot.../horses_003.jpg

LordGood
Right-othink I got it, the rim lighting has a yellow tint now and isn't as strong of an overlay

idanwin
The horse nose is a bit too square, but it's making great progress! It's a bit like the trunk of an elephant, but really short.EDIT:It reminds me of this: Edited March 27, 2013 by idanwin

LordGood
Thanks guys, I think all I really need is to rub out that little light bridge at the end of the muzzle that defines the square, should be ok after that i think
alpha123
The horse looks a little tired or something to me. Perhaps the head should be a little higher. Otherwise, wow, that's fantastic. Also, I smell an easter egg with that unicorn.
LordGood
Perhaps a unicorn cheat code ahahaafter all, those cheat codes in AOE never made any sense xPHere's another sketch and a possible crop
