Here on Medium AI (on Very Hard I don't outcompete economy early game, but I play quite intuitively, no videos or tips to know optimal build order, for now at least). The chevrons above the units' heads signify (from single to triple) basic, advanced and elite rank; they go along with increasing attack and HP values and decreasing gathering speeds. (Since this site's search function is phenomenally terrible I don't know if there's a good overview somewhere.) In case you will want it, these two are against Very Hard Aggressive AI, both playing with the Athenians. In the first one I outcompeted the AI on economy early game right at the beginning, then it seems I stopped paying too much attention to it. For the second one I’m only barely outcompeted in the first couple of minutes (I guess took a few seconds to set my dropsites, resources being far from the CC). I’m not using auto-queue anymore, to get used to how apparently most people play.

On 5-berry patches, you'll get: Without Wicker Baskets: ~150 extra food With Wicker Baskets: ~100 extra food. (There are 40 seconds without Wicker Baskets while the technology is being researched.) Are you implying that berry bushes regenerate ? Since when ?

That has to be one of the reasons why I was recommended time ago to distribute the gatherers among different berries, one ends extracting more food this way. I can't find something I proposed time ago: I wouldn't make the berry tree disappear when done, but leave an empty bush that can provide a little wood. Either one chops them for wood, or leaves them for food. Now I'd add that one could then make regeneration a bit different: not slow and continuous, but faster and at certain times, depending on the tree type. How things stand right now, certainly there has to be a line stating "Regenerates: 1 Food / 5 seconds" (seemed that rate, and trying to emulate correct nomenclature).
