If it would save my life from a big honkin javelin to the back?! Yes!
-
Which makes persians, gauls, britons, iberians.... etc... very sad. Because they don't get any of that. ram city for those guys. ;/

can we pull the argument of fun><>Balance><>fun elsewhere? and like - oh i don't know, talk about the balance branch and stuff? Yes? thank you. Okay, my thoughts on the latest change (gather capacities) It's great. Really, it's great. Though it's not great for the reasons you might expect. On the outside it looks like a nerf but in reality to the good planner, it's a huge buff. Less early-mid game resource micro! Resources just Roll in! Sure, in smaller numbers than before, but much -- much faster! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to RECOMPILE again because something broke. Scythe, i think you rolled back to the version where Gauls/britons work. :/

First: Pontus wasn't a successor state - it was a persian satrapy which adopted some seleucid/macedonian ideas - we already have persia, and we already have the seleucids+macedonians, having a middle ground would be pointless, yes? Second: We don't really want or need those, rhodes for example, had very minimal impact on the world.... and we have too many greeks as it is. If ever there would be another greek city state - it would be thebes. Armenia? Hm. Not sure. We're not trying to be rome total war here. Most of the factions had a SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on the shape of the world, crete, pontus, armenia.. they didn't really do much in the way of special stuff. Macedonia conquered the known world, athens fought the persians for several hundred years, spartans are spartans, persians were an empire, romans romanised the world... see where i'm going with this? And silver shield legionaries ARE in the Seleucid roster, but they aren't actually silver shield. they're called Romanized infantry (i think) - Go to a fortress and research "reformed army" which should give you Kataphraktoi and the romanized infantry. On a side note, if you feel these factions are really really important, you can always start a mod yourself. Vive le open source.

What, and the bombard cannon was just a fly swatter? Poor bombard cannon.

Hello! I'm looking forward to helping out

Don’t expect much though, it gets' laggy for most people around about the 400 mark, and if you are gauls/britons/persians and someone is turtling? Give up, it's going to take hours to get through them walls. Rams are shoddy. -
I'll just go into a corner and feel silly then.

Will be a pleasure! Thanks for possibly bringing several thousand helpers/fans to 0ad! (love your content btw) -
I would rather not. Having spies balance themselves is actually MUCH easier in the long run than balancing around them.

They actually used oars when they needed a little extra UMPH (running away from a bigger ship, for example) Oars are omnipurpose, Sails ONLY work when there is wind, and if the wind is going in the wrong direction? Tough.

Tutorials are Coming soonTM We had to set up something called Triggers for scenarios, from what i've heard... we have them now? (can't find them)Which was basically the requirement for a tutorial make stuff do stuff when you do stuff, See where I’m going with this? I hope so, I don't. Also, suggest you try to get the Balance branch, or SVN Because in 3/4 weeks time.. thats what you will be playing.

HUZZAH!

Simple: put it in, and put in an option to turn it off. Who knows, some people might actually load slow enough to justify it's existence.

[Rise of the East] Development Update August 2014
auron2401 replied to niektb's topic in Announcements
That new civ centre definately looks significantly more han-esque. Wow. And yay, i can build farms without tearing my eyeballs out! I hope we don’t have to plant rice with stone any more? -
Nothing. NOTHING. beats himilcar baraq's ability. Lightning speed! (makes you tons of money with land trade too )

Sneak peak: Can you guess what I'm working on?

Or. A lord of the rings mod. *sigh* I think there was enough hints. -

Definitely looks like helms deep. Like I said before, we need a few uruk models. -
Hahaha no i was going to report they were slow at first when i was using the balancing branch. Nah i tried it on SVN, everything is still turtlish. All the walk times anyway. running times seems.. faster than everyone else?
-
Some balance things I’ve noticed. Chinese buildings take 1.5x longer to build, but cost the same and don't give any adverse benefits? (i.e double the health or effect eg pop?) Their units are darned turtles. suggest setting their speed in line with all other civs.
-
As he said, some of the smaller variants are particularly spaceless. "fixing the obstruction" would affect all variants, yes? Thereby making a weird walk-through-partofbuilding effect.
-
You can actually get more territory faster, it's just significantly harder to hold without civ centres. ;/ Mind, they do get an awesome elephant+pikeman combination. Maybe if Civ centres were built a bit more like settlements in AoM it might be more viable? (i know it was actually originally planned but called off somewhere, but i think it would be a great combination with territory would be great - more field battles. :3) But yeah, Seleucids is basically: we need moar art We need moar ideas to make them unique-er, And thats' basically it.

Having the whole carolingian logo could freak out history nerds (or anyone who's played CK2 Old gods. XD) The karlings kind of ruled over france and germany. Sure they hated each other, but they were still the same.. 'dynasty'. IS there.. ANYTHING.. more unique to the frankish Karlings? SO as to determine which karling is which when they are warring against each other? Also, those 'axethrowers' could be melee as well? I mean Franciscas are actually decent to swing around as well as fling around. Franciscas CAN be thrown, and you really cant kill with them, so they would primarily be a melee weapon and you would only be thrown if you had a need to (eg to fight against an archer you were charging against) Watching that video, it seems they would be probably even used them for morale purposes. Good arguments have been made for the use of them as a bouncy weapon. I would like a demonstration though. XD

Playing the game at 1.25x speeds up Everything, So your question is stupid and pointless. It assumes that game speed only affects movement speed. Which is the ONLY thing which has been increased. unless you count the research which makes everything harvest faster but that costs.

LAG! i really like to play this game.

Not even paid devs would want to help after such an outburst. -
Sad but true. everyone seems desperate to use spartans and romans.
