  1. The outpost template has an element to define that it decays in only enemy territory. Removing "enemy" should probably fix it. Or maybe you could disable the TerritoryDecay element completely Now the big question about your claim: Is there a difference below the surface?

  2. Recently the Red Cross launched a campaign against committing war crimes in video games; I guess it's more to raise awareness than to actually change gamers' behavior. Personally, killing pixel-people including pixel-civilians (= genocide) doesn't wake the urge in me to transfer that into real life, but I wondered if you had an opinion about that, maybe changing the default settings to a non-bloody victory condition like a wonder victory?

  4. The first impression is very important, and the play0ad.com website is hopelessly outdated and painfully slow. I can't however see the website's source code anywhere, and I think it would be a good idea to let the community help with that because it will not be worse than what it is now. However, I'm not going to put time and effort into designing and building a website for this open source project if it isn't going to be used. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this idea.

  5. The fact that there are no kushites or hans on the factions page is enough.

  7. There are plans to fix the font rendering problem. I've already added the freetype library. The next step is to add font pre-rendering in the game (via freetype directly or via cairo/pango). I think it's a reasonable restriction, as well as for emails one. You can use the player name option if you want to customize the name.

  10. The Byzantines are Greek-Latin with Eastern influence from the Sasanian Empire. Not to mention the differences in bureaucratic and military thinking and organization.

  12. It looks like alpha 23 uses SDL2. If you are sure that you have libsdl2-dev installed then check whether you have pkgconfig installed, as 0ad uses pkgconfig to locate the path to the SDL include directory. A quick way to verify that your build environment is correct is to check whether you can build 0ad alpha 25 or alpha 26 on your system. This command installs the build dependencies of the current version of 0ad, which should get you most of the way to having the build dependencies for alpha 23. sudo apt-get build-dep 0ad You're bound to encounter other problems building alpha 23 unless you use distro-maintained patches. Fortunately, Debian still has alpha 23 maintained for a current version of Linux. You can copy their patches and build rules or mimic them manually. If you have the ability to add a deb-src PPA for Debian packages then you could use apt-get source 0ad/bullseye to obtain the already-patched source code. Just make sure to remove the PPA afterward so that packages are only installed from the Mint repositories. If you obtain the Debian-patched source code for alpha 23 then you can look at the Build-Dep line of 0ad-0.0.23/debian/control and verify that you have installed the packages listed there.

  13. Becouse if 4v4 then there won't be more than 4 teams, and it will be impossible to coordinate games to play, and if 1v1 we just had events like that in the past, why not making something new? 2v2 is fun to watch and play and doesn't lag.

  14. People have had this idea that videogames cause violence for as long as videogames have existed. People with normal cognitive function are able to distinguish between the objectives and victory conditions of a game, regardless of how they are achieved, and real life, traumatic violence. I don't think this is worth our time to be honest, especially not any developer's time.

  15. Looks like a recent upgrade in Arch linux broke the game for some reason => https://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/6798 Some users reported that rolling back to the previous version worked for them. https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-community/commits/packages/0ad/trunk
