Hi, I'm new to the OAD, and don't know if this issue had been solved, but since I've discovered this game a month ago, it constantly bothered me to not have AA. (As much as I forced my ATI vga to do it, nothing happened). So, when I discovered reShade (free from https://reshade.me/), it was a no brainer to try and it seems it works perfectly with SMAA antialising shader (tested on win7x64 - select opengl when asked). Also, with reShade you can enable a ton of other eye candy stuff, including stereoscopic support for VR, cardboard included. If someone makes a cool shader preset, just post it here. So, here you have it - hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Cheers.2 points

But 0AD isn't a fantasy game. It's a historical game. Of course there are artistic licenses taken, but only where it's merited. If the people want eye catchy, there are quite a number of eye-catching civs to choose from already (although I personally consider the Xiongnu quite eye-catching already). I think the more mute colors of the Xiongnu goes well with their more natural, nomadic feel. Shamanic, in closer proximity to nature than any other civ. I think the Scythians offer a much better opportunity for a bright and colorful, eye-caching nomadic civ. Just my opinions though.2 points

The region have an amazing history of successive civilizations. - Andronovo and Bactria–Margiana cultures during the prehistory. - The Scythians, the Saka, the Dahae and the Parni for the iron age. - The Achaemenid Persians. - The Macedonian Empire and its successor in Persia, the Seleucids. - The Bactrian independancy and the rise of the Mauryan empire. - The split between the Indo-Greek and greco-bactrians. - The installation of the Indo-Scythians kingdom. - The rise of the Parthians in the west and the split with the Indo-Parthian dynasty in the east. - The arrival of the Tocharoi of Strabo, the Yuezhi. The foundation of the Kushan nomad empire which took the control of the region. - The reversal of the Parthians by the Sassanians in the west, the rise of the Xionites and Kidarites in the North and the expansion of the Gupta empire in the South. - The foundation of the Hephtalite empire. - The rise of the Göktürk ant the Islamic conquest for the post-Roman era.2 points

Long term goals: The Greco Bactrian Kingdom of 1000 cities... One of the richest and most powerful Hellenistic states, if only for a brief 131 years (256 BC - 125 BC). A precursor to the Indo Greek Kingdom (180 BC - 10 AD). They're quite interesting, representing the most Eastern extent of Greek rule after Alexander's conquest. A vast Kingdom encompassing Bactria, Sogdiana and Ferghana, as well as parts of Persia and the Punjab. Syncretizing Greek religion with Bactrian and Iranian influences, and partly converting to Buddhism and Zoroastrianism. Mixing Achaemenid and Greek architecture. Influencing artistic developments in India and China. Multi-ethnic and multi-cultural, with Greek kings ruling alongside local kings. They fought a major war with the Seleucids. They bordered, and had generally good relations with the Maurya Dynasty. They also bordered the Han Chinese! And there seems to have been conflict between them or the Yuezhi (proto-Kushans, similar to Xiongnu) in or around the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang, the Western most part of modern day China. The Han Chinese proceeded to a full on invasion of the Greek cities in Ferghana in the wake of the fall of Greco Bactrian Hegemony after the invasions of the nomadic Yuezhi. This Greek-Chinese war is dubbed the War Of The Heavenly Horses. The Chinese referred to the Greeks as Dayuan (Great Ionians)... As the Scythians connect the West to the East through the extensive contact with the Xiongnu over the Eurasian steppe, the Greco Bactrians connect the East to the West through the contact with China over the Tarim Basin, establishing the beginnings of the Silk Road. A pretty decent general introduction: Greek-Chinese war. Isn't this stuff delicious? Like finger licking delicious??1 point

Looking good. I shall commit them to the art repository. But you need to sign the legal waiver.1 point

@vladislavbelov : an informed observation, but it only affects boundaries of straight interface elements, and only in some cases, depending on background. In my opinion, a very acceptable trade off for the improved overall image quality. The shader has its source code editable from the game (maybe you can have a source of inspiration there) and can use various strategies, having several parameters configurable by interface - it might be possible to obtain a better result tinkering with it. @gameboy: the beauty of it is that reShade is free and OPEN SOURCE, is here now, it installs over the game in less than 5 minutes (it simply puts some files along the executable) and can be removed at will. Also it offers a treasure of additional plugins and effects, that can be used to enhance the graphics of the game beyond any future development you might have hoped. While no doubt AA is a very important quality feature, this is a free development, and having to do a small customization yourself, is a little price to pay. Not to mention the fun you can have modding yourself.. Here is a short tutorial on how to install reShade as to enable SMAA anti-aliasing: 1. Go to https://reshade.me/ and download the setup. Direct link: https://reshade.me/downloads/ReShade_Setup_4.0.2.exe 2. run the setup, it will ask you to locate the game executable. ("..0 A.D. alpha\binaries\system\pyrogenesis.exe") 3. when asked to select engine type, you click on OpenGL radio button (possibly already checked) (also repeat those steps to un-install if needed, or add new shaders) 4. will ask if to download shaders library, say yes, and from the list select ONLY SMAA for start - click next - etc. it will say that it succeded instalation, and you can close the window at this point. 5. Start the game normally - even start a skirmish session 6. Use HOME key to bring/hide reShade interface from within the game 7. Check the SMAA checkbox, check Performance mode, maybe hit reload. The AA should be visible by now 8. hit HOME to hide the interface 9. Have fun. There are gamers out there reShading every game they have. As for myself, I love the thing, I already install it on varius games to play with Depth3D. A must for every PC hardcore gamer out there - and a wonderful exmple why PC gaming is great. Trivia: SMAA is opensource and was developed at Technical University of Zaragoza, my city. Makes me proud a little. Peace.1 point

@Genava55 true, the history of that region is amazing! Ancient Bronze Age urban societies and all... The climate was also somewhat wetter +2000 years ago, so it would have been a lot greener back in the day. A sort of heavenly place, according to many accounts. The ancient city of Balkh (Bactra) really fascinates me. Some mighty impressive city walls: The late medieval history of the region is also pretty amazing. You forgot to mention the Timurid Empire , centred on Bactria/Sogdiana. It was Huge! Founded by Timur Lenk (Tamerlane), a decadent self-invisioned "heir" to the Mongol Empire. He made Samarkand his capital and built a really nice mosque there, the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, still standing today (after restorations):1 point

So far only useful under Windows no support for the other two platforms we support Linux and OSX so only a limited solution. Enjoy the Choice1 point

I like the Pavlovian reaction of those 3 .. auto-congratulates each other with smileys even if they don't really get the point. Lazy minds and poor personalities ; facebook generation. Boudica, sorry to say that but it's better u just keep "liking" the post of 2 others to avoid wasting your time and mine.. i said i really don't care if this is better or not as the idea in the first place was a joke : making score based on 1 player... (even the name eae is a joke) But i feel i have to answer simply to avoid people to get me wrong. nope .. that makes only 2 cases my friend .. not an infinite number of cases. ( exemples : 10-0 and 0-10 or 7-0 and 0-7 or .. etc) And those 2 cases can be labelled as +Inf and -Inf .. just like there are with the kd ratio. Am I wrong or unclear ? - it's symmetrical and centred on 0.. .. i give you a simple example : ln(0/10) = -Inf , ln(3/7) = -0,8473 , ln(5/5) = 0 , ln(7/3) = 0,8473 ; ln(10/0) = +Inf .. I hope its clear now. - I was just saying in first place that taking ffm as the benchmark could be a better idea to avoid having like 99% similar score whatever the formula taken; then i precise that taking the "ln" scale softens the distribution of values (to avoid the massing effect). But im agree with you to say that it will be hard to interpret. @PhyZic the fnny fact is : I teach math and i create a video game ; while you mostly spec games of others and write crap on this forum. I have probably more respect for a "Retard" than something like you @ the forum admins : the least, it's not to delete the answer of someone being insulted. Personally, I won't answer on this topic anymore as it's going nowhere1 point

Different units have different gather rates? About shuttle speed in the template, I would set it to the same for all units. The point would be that it is controllable in the template so that you can have a uniform shuttling speed for citizen-soldiers (probably the speed of your slowest walking infantryman) while maintaining that they can have differing regular "walk" speeds (fast moving slingers, slow pikemen, etc.). Since it's controlled in the templates, you could have techs or bonuses which modify this shuttling speed, but don't affect normal walking rates.1 point

Yay Lanayru Province is done, at long last. They took way too long to finish: I can see this idea working on something like a large scale campaign map, I'm not sure how it would go over in smaller scale multiplayer battles seeing that it's very situational. Maybe it's worth a try though.1 point

Do you receive any error message when you attempt to join? It's definitely not an IP ban. Are you using the same PC to connect from each different network or different PCs? Could it be a password issue? Maybe an incorrect password is stored in your config. The username and password are both case-sensitive. Try retyping your password and make sure you use the same caps for your username that you used when you registered.1 point
