  1. I think ethnicity in the Middle East including the Arabian peninsula is actually incredibly complex. I'm personally not in favor of ignoring political realities to create a single muddled up faction like the "saracens" in AoE, based solely on the notion of shared ethnicity. The Umayyads were a vast and multi-ethnic state that incorporated Arab, Persian and Byzantine influences, as well as everything in between, and far beyond. I'm in favor of depicting an actual state that really existed, rather than separating a "single" ethnicity from that state, stripping it of all non Arab elements, of which there are many, and then present it as a historical faction, which it wouldn't be... It doesn't make sense to me. It made sense in vanilla for the Gauls because of a lack political cohesion, and the Iberians because of a lack of references. Neither of these things are an issue with the Umayyads.

  2. It made sense also because the Gauls share the same archeological culture, the same language and had a very connected network of settlements sharing the same evolution during a long time period. The same for the Iberians. Regional specificities are minor and not temporally constant, in contrary to the Greeks. It means an ethnic centered mod which is problematic for the Germanic factions where the North-West Germanic languages didn't splitted before the third century AD and the West Germanic languages didn't splitted before the sixth century AD. Moreover their ethnicities are well mixed and shared together by huge confederacy system that appeared during their history like the Suebi/Suevi, the Marcomanni, the Alemanni and the Franks. Plus the Merovingian and the Carolingian dynasties are new levels of complexities from an ethnological perspective.

  7. This mod would be huge potential library of maps that everyone could share. This would give more opportunities for people to play on custom maps online.

  9. Well... I didn't play 0Ad for months.... I don't know why, yesterday I decided to play online again to this amazing game. I discovered there are some new issues with the server. For some reasons, I can host, and join some games, but not all games. Well, let say, I can join 50% of the availables multiplayer games... (after spending 2 hours trying to solve the issue). Yesterday, I wait for one hour to find a game in the hall... And today, I simply decided... to resign.... Again after one hour waiting. Here is my adventure, despite the issue with the connexion.... Every time I want to participate a game, people told me I have no level.... I spent one hour yesterday and one hour today with these comments. I don't know how people can say that about me without knowing me, I am playing this game since 2014, but this is not the topic... There are about 10 players online waiting for a game, and open games for 20 players.... This is strange, why not complete the opened games before? I don't know how it is possible to attract new players if new players can't play multiplayer games... Well, sorry to say that, but I'll have a new test in months. to my friends, I'll tell it is not yet a good multiplayer game, as you need to know to community to have a chance to play online. I'll definitely hope some attitudes will change as this game is really really good. I worked in videogames 10 years ago, and what I have to say is this is a excellent game.

  10. Why don't have every model twice? One with high poly/textures, and one with lower one. And in game settings you could choose between those two options. Would it be that much work to create two different one? In my opinion 0 A.D. won't be final released the next few years. So if new models will be created they should be the highest quality as possible, because they should be good enough even in a five or more years. @Alexandermb btw. nice work

  11. The problem is that this logic should be applied to others factions as well. For example, the Jin dynasty, the Sui dynasty and the Tang dynasty in one faction for the Chineses.

  12. Agree, better leave AoE Minimalist design behind if all ship are smaller wouldn't be any difference between bireme, trireme, quatrireme, quinquereme. and then we will start a new re-mesh project wich will leave some new ships like ptol quinquereme unused because it will need to be reduced- In fact its better make ships at medium - real size , and save the blender files because is better have a future vision with ships boarding, ramming and naval battles with units in deck than ghost ships.

  13. The Umayyads (661 - 750 AD) are being developed for Millennium AD, a mod that takes place from 500 AD to 1000 AD. The Lakhmids date from 300 AD to 602 AD, and the Ghassanids date from 220 AD to 638 AD, so for both of them, the majority of their history falls outside of the timeframe. Their territorial extent and interconnectedness are also very limited. With only 4 playable factions to date, it's important to focus on the most powerful states of the time first. Ghassanids were a Byzantine client state, and the Lakhmids were often a Sassanid client state. So Byzantines and Sassanids are more important, and Sassanids haven't been developed yet. In terms of territorial extent and interconnectedness, it's not even a competition. The Umayyad Caliphate was one of the largest and most powerful empires of it's day. There are a number of other early medieval states that would also be more relevant before the Lakhmids and Ghassanids. For example: Abbasid Caliphate Khazar Khaganate Avar Khaganate Turkic Khaganate Uyghur Khaganate Chinese Tang Dynasty Tibetan Empire Asuka and Heian periods of Japan Chola Dynasty Pallava Dynasty Aksumite Empire Kingdom of Makuria Ghana Empire Great Moravia Emirate of Cordoba Lombards To name a few.

  14. Nah, I think naval maps need to be designed with more open water and less bottlenecks in the waterways. Ships need at least a few units on deck (deckhands/captain) so they don't look like ghost ships. If the ships are made smaller it would increase awkwardness.. Maps (and their layout) need to be spacious enough in general, which isn't always the case.

  15. I wonder if the ships in game shouldn't just be smaller.

  16. Hello and thank you for your application. I'm pinging a few people @implodedok @Itms @BrynnOfCastlegate so you can get more feedback on what you can do with us. In order (Web and Sys Admin), (Project Leader), and (Lead Video Artist) If you know how to compile in Mac your help would be precious to test the next release candidates. We don't have much video editing to do right now (Though showcasing art commits when they occur might be nice) so It will be a bit empty for some time, but we need some help on the web design field, so I'll let you talk directly with Implodedok in that area. Hope you'll enjoy your time here with us on the forums, and do not hesitate to drop by IRC. (We are mostly in Europe, so we might have delayed conversations)

  17. Hey @camelator Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with the multiplayer lobby. If you have friends that might be interested by the game, you might want to play with them. Unfortunately we can't monitor everything that happens in the lobby, we simply do not have the manpower for this. To answer your question to attract new players we need more people sharing the game, even though it's in alpha and some people in multiplayer are idiots. We also need more developers to improve things in the game. Since you were in the video game industry 10 years ago maybe you would like to contribute code ?

  19. Armored Horsemen (Mujaffafa) Bedouin Mounted Archer Healer (Hakim) - I am thinking of merging the Hakim/Mullah/Imam role into one. Something like an Islamic warrior-scholar. Umayyad healers will have a combat bonus aura to depict the effects of how the Jihad affected the Islamic societies during the Islamic conquest period. Infantry Spearmen
