Welcome to the official topic for Classical Warfare AEA - A more in-depth version of 0 A.D., with an emphasis on historical accuracy. New units and technologies, but a similar approach to the game. (In simple words, we think it makes the game better.) Our original post was deleted when the account was accidently flagged for spamming Anyway, welcome and we hope you enjoy the mod. IF you have any suggestions or are fascinated with this part of history and want to contribute don't be shy! We are hoping to keep it going as long as there is interest from the community, after all it's the community that makes this game and this project so much fun! Big thanks for all the people along the way that have helped keep this project going. Starting with of course the one and only @TheCJ but also @Genava55 @Atrik (but he seems to mostly be retired now) @Tyrannosaurus @Thalatta @Seleucids (another retired OP soul) @Outis @Stan` and I'm sure many more that I am forgetting. Emacz2/classical-warefare-aea our git hub incase you want to download or check out some of the differences! you can visit our webiste here! Thanks @Asher for setting it up

Adding storylines to scenarios and campaigns
Thalatta replied to Vantha's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I guess the question is, when this happens, can you still play? I imagine it would be nice to keep doing so while listening to some dialogue. -

Adding storylines to scenarios and campaigns

It depends on what a cutscene is for you. Dialogue and cinema paths (predefined camera movements such as in the cinema demo map) aren't tied to each other, either one of them can be shown on its own, but also both at the same time. What they have in common is that both show the the two black bars at the top and bottom and there's a way implemented to synchronise the two systems. Then there's what I called "cutscene mode", which disables visual overlays like territory borders, health bars and selection rings -- the mode is always enabled during cinema paths and optionally during dialogue (it can be specified). -

Erythraean City-States Berbera City-States -¿Qué idioma recomiendas? Disculpen las molestias*
-
Proto-Cushitic probably not, the languages became distinct during the Neolithic. Cushitic languages include more than the area. Maybe other proposals could be: City-States of Punt City-States of Barbaria

-¿Podrían llamarse "Cushitic city-states? -¿El idioma para la facción puede ser el proto-Cushita? Disculpen las molestias*

Except for Survival of the Fittest… and Jebel Barkal… and that one Volcano level…

No, I did not. Scenarios are all over the place, hence my use of the word random in that context. They can contain all kinds of triggers and map configurations. Skirmish and Random maps allow standard gameplay only.

It is physically possible to do it with both a bow and (some kind of) crossbow, the only question is if it physically makes sense, because indeed the energy would be distributed, so it wouldn’t work against somewhat armoured troops. I doubt a crossbow able to do that was invented at the time, and for a bow, it’s a shooting technique, although holding 5 arrows in one hand could also work (but it’s just a variation of what they were already doing of holding at least a couple of arrows on that hand). I guess the case for barbed arrowheads, put forward by A. Siddiqi, comes from the whole quote: "When I give you the order to shoot, let fly at them swiftly with a five-arrow volley (bi-al-banjakan). The people of Yemen had never seen war arrows before this occasion", which seems to me puts the focus on the arrow themselves, although if taken too literally.

Lopess is right here. "Macrobia" is more of a mythical Greek term, and using "Somalia" or "Somalis" for the era of the Periplus would be an anachronism, as that specific identity developed later. The ports you listed (Opone, Malao, Mundus, etc.) weren't a unified empire, but rather wealthy, independent trading hubs. In my opinion, City-States of the Horn of Africa (or Northern Horn Kingdoms) is the most accurate and objective choice. They operated much like ancient Phoenician or Greek city-states: politically independent but sharing the same culture and trade routes. If you prefer something with more cultural depth, Land of Punt is also an option, as it refers to the ancient roots of that specific region. The other terms don't fit as well: Cushitic is too broad (it's a massive language group), while Habashat and Automoli refer more to ancient Ethiopia and Upper Egypt/Nubia rather than the Somali coast. I would recommend going with City-States of the Horn of Africa or Land of Punt if you want a more distinct name for the faction.

I think it would be better to edit/improve the official documentation tbh.
-
Ok If you want, I can host it on github pages when we are done
-
Yeah, I think that would be fine. Your tutorial would have to wait till all of mine are finished though, since it would be a general tutorial on the process, including parts from all of mine.
-
What if we did both, make the separate parts like you are saying, but then also make (I could do this) a tutorial that goes off that, but is walking though making a mod; for beginners
-
I think a bunch of sperate tutorials describing the different parts of making a mod would be best, that way people can learn the specific parts that they want to know rather than having to dig through a long and ending tutorial.

@Perzival12, are you thinking of a tutorial from start to finish of making a mod, or just the different parts, like making a unit, structure, etc.?
