I thought those kind of castles (motte and bailey were more 8th century castles) ?

The germanic tribes were divided by clans, that model was the precursor of the middle age. They were the precursor of the middle age.

Indeed, the upper two refs are medieval, the third one is Continental Celts and the last one is a reconstruction of an Irish ringfort from c. 500 AD. Not ideal refs :P

Most of Europe during the iron age was based on clans (Celts, Iberians, Thracians etc.) and none were using motte-and-bailey castle. Because this is a development from the middles ages and this has little to do with being Germanic. Your syllogism is not correct.

ideas. You know better than any.

There is a Celtic-like hillfort used by the Rhine Germans during the 3rd century AD:

Else, there are some very simple stones hillforts from pre-roman Iron Age but with no schematic illustrations:

Thank for the correction, is hard to find good reference for the germanic tribes.

Gelduba helmet from the Batavians, probably a modification on a second-hand helmet:

Batavian auxiliary equipment (Gallic Imperial A):

Imitation of a Roman helmet found in the Balkans (badly dated although, again a auctioneer thing, It could be related to the Marcomannic Wars):

The shape of the shield depends on the time period. Two 3rd century shields were discovered at Thorsbjerg, but they were round. The large weapons sacrifical sites at places like Throsbjerg, Nydam, Vimose, Finnestorp, Illerup etc are the sort of places where this stuff turns up. Just google them up for inventories. Or, if you are from Friesland, go to the Nydamhalle at Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig where you can see the boat, the clothes, the spears, the swords, the bows, arrows, axes etc etc.
