3 new small mods inc Game Templates

Recommended Posts

I have vibe-coded 3 mods that I have tested locally and that other players may find useful:

Game Templates: Allows saving multiplayer game settings so it is easier to switch game types without missing a setting.
https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/gametemplates

Resignation Tribute: Allows you to send resources to allies when you resign.
https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/resignation-tribute

Quick Lobby: Adds a button to the main menu to get you to the lobby that little bit faster.
https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/quicklobby

I am also playing around with a player notes mod but I am still testing it.

So the mod.json is in the gametemplates subfolder so if you downloaded ALL the code then you only need that subfolder. Under the releases section I have the zip downloads e.g. [this zip](https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/gametemplates/releases/download/v0.28.1/gametemplates-0.28.1.zip) so that is probably easier for you to use than downloading the whole git repo.

To make it easier here are direct links to the zip files for each mod above:

[Game Templates Zip](https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/gametemplates/releases/download/v0.28.1/gametemplates-0.28.1.zip)

[Resignation Tribute Zip](https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/resignation-tribute/releases/download/v0.28.0/resignation-tribute-0.28.0.zip)

[Quick Lobby Zip](https://github.com/jonnymccullagh/quicklobby/releases/download/v0.28/quicklobby-0.28.zip)

I was trying to click the load template, and only a small part on the left could be clicked. Really nice though, especially if you are changing mods, then you don't have to go through all the settings and change them :)

Love it!

If I may, could I suggest one more mod: something that compares the mods and mod versions available on mod.io with the ones actually installed on the user's PC and then indicates what has changed. There was once a mod for that but it is not updated unfortunately.

I don't use ModernGUI so I don't know how compatible these are. I just don't like how it moves my minimap from where I expect it.

Yeah I am tempted to make a 'modowar' that includes several of these ideas in one mod. I tried to get these onto mod.io but no progress so far. And I personally would prefer an easier way to see the latest autociv etc

ok but any other than that in combination ? I'm just wondering if game templates UI changes conflict with UI changes in another mod.

I was using other mods, but I just tried it without any other mods, and it still did it

An ally dying is different to a resignation imho and I think that brings up some questions about whether we even should

Maybe something interesting (though probably worthy of it’s own mod) would be when you defeat a player, you get all of their resources.

But what if one player takes out all but 1 unit or structure, then another player takes out the last unit. Does it divide up based on how many units/structures you took out?

Iirc, the statistics tracker keeps track of who destroyed what buildings, so you could give the resources to whoever destroyed the most of that player’s structures. Another way would be to put it only for the Conquest Civic Centers mode, so that whoever destroys the last civic center wins.

Good idea! Also maybe if the units and or structures converted to yours? Or would that be too good?

This is so genuinely useful feature. Unfortunately, I think almost nobody will use it the way it was intended. Besides me, I doubt many players will have dozens of configurations saved. Most will either never use it, or they'll end up with exactly one saved setup: Mainland, Circle Placement, Temperate, 4v4, Low Res, 200 Max Pop.

What's even more telling is that Feldmap was given a special feature for a specific group of players son they can Shuffle Positions, yet it is never used.
(And is not because is a bad feature, but because of user error.)

I think I finally understand why some developers become defensive when some of us suggest improvements. A lot of users are like customers of certain tech brands: they just complain that things are bad, but never take the time to learn how to use the tools, features and options already available to them.

0 A.D. offers an incredible amount of variety: different maps, biomes, placements, civilizations, victory conditions, strategies, and historical settings. There is a huge amount of work and detail behind it.

So I want to take this opportunity to thank the developers for creating such a great game with so many possibilities.
My impression is that most players have no idea how much content and variety they actually have at their fingertips.

Nice @AlexHerbert and I agree we do seem to fall into the trap of playing the same games. When I see your games in the lobby I will join as I like that variety. I like Wild Lake and Marmara too but yes people complain as soon as you change the map.
The 'rules' box is particularly useful to introduce the map in a game. I try to explain about the gaia in Wild Lake. I think some of us a skeptical of a new map because some trolls focus their efforts on learning a map and drawing us into their honey traps. So explaining the map beforehand will hopefully reduce suspicion.
