  1. Hello all. It's been a while since I was here. Id don't know if this was talked about already, but I would appreciate if it was possible to lock units in formations as it was possible in Cossacks RTS. Now soldiers simply break ranks and attack enemy like horde of barbarians, not disciplined professionals.
  2. Hello. I tried Alpha 3 and I spotted, that in European maps White-tailed deer is used (at least its icon suggests it clearly - see shape of antlers). Thing is, that it is american specie. In Europe it would make more sense to either use Red Deer or Roe Deer which is much smaller, but also much more common. Another thing is some North African map. Gazelles could be found here. These look like Red-fronted Gazelle or Thomson's Gazelle both actually living south of Sahara. Of course, it is not certain if these weren't extinguished in North Africa by men, but I doubt that. I'd suggest to replace them with Bubal Hartebeest or North African Asses (all now extinct ) or species of Gazelle native to North Africa. Also Cuvier's Gazelle lives in North-Wester Africa (however prefers woodland areas, not desert). Hm. maybe you mean Dorcas Gazelle. Then it would be OK. But perhaps adding some other species could be nice (Berber Lion, Atlas Bear or those I already mentioned) but I understand that you don't want to overdo it.
  3. Hm. I wonder why there is not Lokalize in list. I use it and it works quite well. Together with KDE internal automated syntax check tool Pology.
  4. Heya. I'm still here around. Watching and admiring your progress. I am de facto leader of Czech KDE localization team with commit access rights. If gettext is planned to be used for translations, I'm experienced more than enough to work on that (that doesn't mean, that any help wouldn't be welcome, though ).
  5. I'm long term KDE translator. I'd suggest to use Lokalize. Multiplatform and offers translation suggestions.
  6. Hi people. 0AD compiles for me well. No problems with that. But I have problems in linking stage because I use Nvidia Linux Beta drivers (because of improvements in vdpau). Linking pyrogenesis /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000028gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000027gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000029gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000023gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000024gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000026gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000022gl' /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.1/../../../../lib/libGL.so: undefined reference to `_nv000025gl' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [../../../binaries/system/pyrogenesis_dbg] Error 1 make: *** [pyrogenesis] Error 2 I know that I shouldn't use Beta, but 190 driver is approaching and you'd have to fix that sooner or later anyway. It is Ubuntu Karmic Koala. Version of used gcc is visible. Also, 0AD compiles well with libboost 1.40. Just wanted to ask, is it debug mode which causes additional heavy load? Because I have Phenom II, 4 GB of RAM and GTX 275, which is well over minimal specs and game doesn't perform too well. How can I disable debugging to test performance without it?

  8. Ouch. Warnings reveal something is getting wrong and may shoot you badly to the leg. Developers of GemRB (OSS implementation of Infinity engine - BG, IWD, PST) use flag -Werror to treat all warnings as errors. Much cleaner approach.
  9. What does it mean that Principes are Javelinists technically? Hastati won't throw Pillum, while Principes won't use melee? How is upgrading system implemented here? Will be there something like Elite Hastati?
  10. So, there will be something like Elite Hastati? That would look weird IMHO. What about Hastati being able to upgrade with experience to Principes and later to Triarii? Principes and Triarii would be trainable, too, but would be more expensive. Also, I wouldn't follow game dictating design. I don't see point in not having two units of same type. Romans did so. If you balance better unit with higher price, I think it is OK. Personally, I's prefer to have Hastati as javelinmen if you think, that you can't have two swordsmen (but I see no reason why). Technically, both, Hastati and Principes were swordsmen and javelinmen. But I think, that usually only Hastati had opportunity to throw their Pilla, because they could do so before lines clashed. Then throwing of Pillum was IMHO impossible as it pressure of battle there was no time/space to throw pillum as heavy fighting occurred.
  11. It doesn't seem so. I admire patience of people here. Still reading same questions asking about download and still answering them politely. I doubt that elsewhere would be so polite and wouldn't send you to places where Sun doesn't rise. They are few in numbers and also have lives to live. It isn't their full time job. Personally, I admire what they achieved. Try to join them and you'll soon understand. If you were doing such game, would you be faster? You'd have to develop own engine and so.
  12. Did you try Medieval Total War (not MTW2) tutorial? "That is not it!! Do it as I told you before you feel flat of my sword." Or something this way.
  13. When it is done. Sorry, it cannot be estimated.
  14. Apomonomenos, I somewhat missed the point. How did they save your life? By protecting you from possibly hit the train? That possibility wouldn't be there anyway? Whatever. It is still better to know that someone is OK for reason not obvious to me than knowing exactly why is someone hurt/dead.
  15. Sure you can. But it would only more reveal that you missed my point. Point is, that it is recorded and well known that Persian armies often vastly outnumbered army of Alexander yet were decisively beaten. With such a great numbers you can't be so decisively defeated even when you are poor commander if your soldiers are all so great. None of your examples would fit to comparison between Alexanders and Persian armies.
  16. Did Alexander really destroy it? I didn't know. Point lies elsewhere. If Persian armies were so excellent, it would be Macedonia which would be conquered. Not vice versa. You can't conquer such a large nation permanently anyway. He was speaking about soldiers. You can't deny that not all of soldiers of Persian armies were excellent. Giving shield and spear to farmer doesn't make him elite trooper. And unfair tactics. He chose easiest way. He could let people of Persepolis starve to death. Would it be better? Hollywood movies are good argument at neither side. And that is exact source of problem. You are too focused and therefore not objective. He said that his nation is of no importance to show that he can be objective and was expecting same from you. It is not about insulting anyone. Point is, that you must deny your nation and any bias when making decision. You can't choose your nation and make it overpowered, because everybody would play only with it. Also, there are historically recorded battles with Persians hugely outnumbering Alexanders armies, yet these were defeated. What about this? If these were elite, they would crush Alexander terribly. I don't think you hurt anyone. Also, I hope, that I didn't hurt you.
  17. Sure. But it still isn't enough. You'll have a look at map and what else? Maybe something like Knights & Merchants with focus on "economy" rather than "military" would help. But this could hit interestingness of the era. You would be depicting something, what never existed. Well, I don't like that idea. Apart from not too good idea to ride rhino (which would never work) or zebra (which is too weak to carry horseman), these animals don't live in desert. It would look weird. Well, I do. I don't want you to stop your work on mod. I just wan't you to prepare for negative side of your choice. Let me suggest you, to seek Czech artist Zdenek Burian. He depicted loads of prehistorical animals, received several awards and his work is also shown in Czech National Museum. Not all his pictures fit into your period. But you'll like them anyway. He had golden hands. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zdenek_Burian
  18. I can't agree. 0AD is not yet finished (t even isn't in alpha stage). It makes no benefit to have an installer. Therefore, making installer is no benefit. Actually, it users compiled own version, they could reveal bugs and thus help 0AD with reports. Also, 0AD has ~ daily commits. That makes version in installer outdated in single day and thus with bugs which could already be fixed.
  19. Ah well. Somebody compiled it for Ubuntu. Despite warning. And despite warning you installed it. Sorry but you provide information of no value. 1) You have integrated card with has quite poor performance. Expect slideshow. 2) Run game from terminal and paste here error message it outputs there. This is essential and whenever you encounter problems in any program, it is advised to do so. Get used to it as it will be expected almost anytime you report bug. 3) Your game is more or less outdated. There are ~ daily commits to 0AD tree. So, your bug could be fixed already. Don't install those packages. Game is not ready for players. Compile it. If you fail to follow steps in guide, just give it up and wait for Beta stage at least. No offense intended, but please understand, game is still far from finished. You won't enjoy it much anyway, yet. You can help by reporting bugs, but not from packaged version.
  20. I think, that prehistorical RTS would be rather boring. No metal, no formations, no cavalry, no sieges, minimal (if any) fortifications, few techs available. Imagine AoE I in Stone Age. Absolutely the same. Maybe spears, javelins and primitive bows would be there, too. But still. I mean, anthropology indeed is interesting thing, but for game you simply need more than that. Ykkrosh, sure size of brain doesn't directly correlate intelligence. However, there is relation in average weight of body and brain. However, it is specifically amount of gray layer which matters. I've seen document, where they revealed that Neanderthals had larynx higher than we have which made communication more difficult as they were unable to say some characters. That was serious disadvantage which caused them to be unable to compete with Homo sapiens. Elsewhere I've heard, that archeologists found bones of Neanderthals with visible scratches made by human teeth. Maybe we ate them. Maybe they tasted like chicken
  21. Come on eduveks. Can't you even read those instructions, cut, paste and execute commands before complaining? Many people did it without problems. Read whole page and follow that guide because that is it's purpose. Guide you so the developers don't have to.
  22. That is misunderstanding. Aim of "For Honour and Glory" is not specifically targeted on Western Europe. You can see Byzantines, Egyptians, Russians and others were also researched. Chinese and others are missing not due to aim of the mod but simply because nobody did the research. That is yet another misunderstanding. I expressed myself in way that it would be good if core team did just few civs and if anybody wanted to add another, then he could freely contribute. How can you be locally based team when you are alone and blablahead is probably not from Russia. I respect your decision. Do as you wish. I don't mind if you use my research and model (somewhat basic, but I think that it is satisfactory) for your mod. And problems with leadership? I'm not the leader. I'm initiator, but not the leader. I wanted to organize work in rather loose manner. But too few people were interested anyway. Maybe I'll do some modeling and texturing for mod just for fun.
  23. Just detail, but actually, that were muskets. Rifles weren't that widespread that time. Skirmishers carried javelin in AoK. But you have point. That is something that will definitely be applied IMHO.
  24. What about maintaining some files to be translated with highlighted changes. Simply, there would be version for translators which would have always changes marked in different colour.
  25. How do you want to do that? Join For Honour and Glory or use its research in Legends Of The Old World?
