  1. Curu : Well, about Fin de Semaine, it is used by 6 million francophones in Quebec. As for me, I never said "ce week-end" in a French sentence (and this, even though I use a Anglicized French ) I always said Fin de semaine, as to me it sounds better And I never saw Akya (and she's more into English than I am) use Week-End in a French sentence As for Aimacalement, it's only a typo : In Québec, we use Amicalement as well. I always written échalote with a double t
  2. Well, for the alphabet, I'm quite sure the contrary is true : that the English alphabet pronouciation is mere anglicization of the French. In fact, you feel that the pattern is regular except for three letters (R, W and Y), which are easily explained. As for the Q issue, its because the vowel u add a strong patalization in K in English, hence giving something close to "kyu" in English. Since this doesn't happen in french, it stayed ku
  3. Bonjour Sally! Aimacalement Tim Only a few notes : Most of the mistakes are orthographics. Some are about time-link (concordance des temps) where even some French-speaking people have problems with. There are a few idiotisms, and your main problem seems to be about demonstratives, because their use in French is pretty large. As for the expression "ce week-end", in Québec, we prefer "en fin de semaine" or "cette fin de semaine", the latter only if you speak about a specific week-end, the former if your speaking of the next week-end.
  4. Sinnen Akemasite! There are a lot of new years around the world. The one North America and Europe mostly follow is the Gregorian year (which ends a few days after the Winter solstice, or Yüle). In Russia, and a few close countries, they have also a new year that differs of about 14 days. from the Gregorian one. In Asia, I learned that the Afghan common new year was on the Spring equinoxe. In Chinese culture, it mostly happens a month after Yule (at least for the few last years). And there are more, that I cannot remember. And you can, if you want, have your proper new year. I have mine, which usually falls 20 days before the Spring equinoxe.
  5. A - Bé - Cé - Dé - E - Èf - Gé - Ach - I - Ji - Ka - Èl - Èm - Èn - O - Pé - Ku - Èr - Ès - Té - U - Vé - Double Vé - Iks - I grec - Zèd Here is how I would say the alphabet myself. The u is the French U (as in my name Ugo) and the E is the strange sound that isn't latin. What is left is quite regular in pronouciation.
  6. Hi! Welcome! Salut! Bienvenue! Hallo! Willkomen! (My poor german ) Ni hao ma! (But sorry, I don't know Welcome in Pekin chinese ) Saluton! Bonvenon (I know a few Chinese who speak that language) ABOUT REALNAME For myself, I prefer to be called Yiuel. I scarcely use my real name on Internet (Yiuel LeMelvillois is NOT my real-life name, even though I have plans to add those names to my real name), and I like it that way. Since the Pen name is a name you choose yourself, I sometimes like it more than my real name
  7. It was probably me, because I used to say "Je m'en fous." Otherwise, in a "polite" situation, I wouldn't use anything as "I don't care". I would use other expressions to show that it's not important, rather then being harsh and say that I myslef don't care. It's more general. But to use such expressions, you must be used to deal with situations, there is no set sentence to say it.
  8. At least, you don't live in South Korea Because it is said that, over there, 75% have Internet, and most of them have a broadband connection. (In Quebec, we are second about broadbandship!!! Yahoo!)
  9. As for the second-to-last one, I can assure those are all real japanese characters (a little missed up though), but it means... nothing I preferred the first two.
  10. Your birthday is close to mine (I was born on a September 8, which is Wednesday). Then, Omedetou Gozaimasu.
  11. I am at university, and so happy I am. Chadeous : It all has been translated for people to understand it. (But I wrote it in Japanese, in my agenda! )
  12. Getsuyou [Monday] 8-ji han kara 10-ji han made : Nihongo [8:30 to 10:30 : Japanese] 13-ji kara 16-ji made : Nihonshi [13:00 to 16:00 : Japan's History] Kayou [Tuesday] 13-ji kara 16-ji made : Kankoku [13:00 to 16:00 : Korea] Mokuyou [Wednesday] 8-ji han kara 10-ji han made : Nihongo [8:30 to 10:30 : Japanese] Kinyou [Friday] 8-ji han kara 10-ji han made : Nihongo [8:30 to 10:30 : Japanese] 13-ji kara 16-ji made : Touashi [13:00 to 16:00 : East Asian History] I have nothing on Thursdays.
  13. I have it about 6 meters away from me, it's holding on our inside deck. I'll try to get a picture of it with me, as soon as I can.
  14. I will officially have it tomorrow. I promise a picture, if you want.
  15. This is possible, but I don't know if it came from there. Even though a lot of Britton moved to Quebec, the masculine language never made it into common use : since the men were always away from the kids, the kids learned with their mother, and most women in that time where scholarized and, by the king, so most kids learned Paris French (of that time, not of present day ). In fact, because possibly most britton learned that language as well, possibly the origin is from old Parisian French...
  16. Well this ratio was chosen because of the first square. Originally, the flag was a banner, only having the doublearrow. Later, I added the bars in other to represent a full range of other meanings. I first tried to fit them into the "golden ratio" system, but I felt the bars to short. Also, to me, diversity is as important as unity, so it leaded to a ration 1:2. This ratio is also common in Canada (the Canada flag, actually being official, is so based, as most provincial flags (but Quebec's is not )).
  17. I don't know what I'll do. But since I'm planning to do work out, I'll probably run as well.
  18. I'll probably put on a wall in my room at University. I hope it will be beautiful and well realised. The uneasy part is the right part of the flag, for each bars are free from each other, only being linked to the main square. As for some meanings, here are a few (because it holds a lot of meanings ) - Blue represents (pure) Hope (usually represented with green), it also represents the Water that surrounds the Isle of Melville. - White repreents Peace, it also represents the Snow that covers the Isle of Melville most of the time. - The doublearrow (Doubleflèche in French) represents the Isle of Melville (it is its shape, after all ). This doublearrow also describ some faith in what I believe, and doublethinking, doublecounciousness. - The square represents Unity, when the Bars represents Diversity. They are 31 (trente-et-une) since when I planned my first travel to Melville, I planned to visit 30 points, with the 15th twice (hence 31 points). It could also mean that life is never "even" but "odd", whatever you try. - There are blue and white bars because of diversity : we are not all the same, and out thinking can be different. - The linking of the bars ONLY with main square means that were linked only by our will to stay in Peace and Hope (hence, in our country) and that nothing else can retain us from leaving. And more could be said about it's meaning to me
  19. I want to present to you what will probably be my birthday gift (though it isn't sure). Since it's a personal flag, it will be unique Here's the design. «Une doubleflèche d'argent sur champ carré d'azur, senestrée de trente-et-une barres libres alternées d'azur et d'argent.» What do you think of it? I don't mean the meaning, but the general aspect, its look?
  20. For Canada, cheap and good is Canada Post, the federal company. As for outside, I never sent anything at all, so... Canada Post (Postes Canada, in French)
  21. The first time I went swimming, it was in the Ocean, at Myrtle Beach. This, I don't remember, since I was too young, but my mother will forever remember it, because it was so scary for her. Well, there was that blue ocean in front of me, and I was three year old. So, I ran into the ocean and jumped in it. This is how, it seems, I learned to swin. And I probably liked it, since I still swim. I feel in water as a fish! So... But that scared my mother because I never learned to swim and I was a three year old boy at that time, alone in the Atlantic!
  22. Here are countries where I have been invited to go : - Korea - Brazil Both countries I would like to visit, but they are far off where I live (Canada). But, in a near future, the first place where I would like to go is : Japan. (LOL) Well, I'm not learning Japanese for nothing I'll probably like to live there part-time. Korea would then be really close to go! Here are other countries I would like to visit : - Ireland (Eire!). I've learned that the Shannon river is a really beautiful place, but most countryparts of Ireland are beautiful. - Bretagne (this is part of France, I know). My family seems to come from that land, even though my last known ancestors were probably French-speakers of Bretagne. - Melville Island (this is part of Canada) : I would like to visit that place especially because I find it really beautiful, in its way. But it's far. I'll need to build a 10 000km long trip to go there. But I'll see marvellous places along the way as well : my birthplace ; the Mackenzie River ; Banks Island (renowed for its flowers, just south of Melville Island). As for global regions in which I would be interested : - Middle East (especially Israël, Lebannon and Syria), what we call in French "Le Levant". - Mesopotamia. I know it's mostly Irak, and is Middle East, but it is to me a different place. There I would like to visit its night, for the stars are said to be beautiful! - Turkestan : This is the region which is just north of Afghanistan. The people over there speaks Turkish languages (hence Turkestan). I would like to visit Samarkand, Timur Lan's capitol. Timur lan is also known as Tamerlan.
  23. YOUKOSO! I always laugh when someone says "Incubus" because, to me, it doesn't mean anything like a music group, but an old movie I hear a lot of. And since it's not what I'm listening the most (I usually prefer Maaya Sakamoto ) well... Oh well. Welcome! (YOUKOSO means WELCOME!)
