  1. Forgot to mention the second-most important part I wanted to include in the post When you post a link that can be embedded you should be asked whether you want to embed it or post it as a link In other words, I personally think we should do/recommend that for Twitch videos, at least as long as they auto-play.
  2. If we have a direct PayPal link removing the legacy PayPal would be fine, I'm not sure what to think about Flattr though. We mainly had it as a way to receive donations via Bitcoin iirc, but that was removed years ago. But on the other hand, if we still receive some donations via them it would probably be less hassle to keep it than trying to get the money to SPI instead. Especially since IIRC the fees connected with getting money from them at least to some degree were/at some stage were fixed, so it would be worth getting more before doing a transfer. Not sure how much we get from them, I remember getting emails with donation info from them, but that was quite some time ago now.
  3. Yeah, the spoiler just hides it from being displayed, it's still loaded as if it was displayed on the page as normal. So yeah, just displaying the link is probably better in this case. There is no way to just limit it to Twitch links though, just to turn off embedding completely, and that seems a bit much. Especially since I don't think I remember having seen ads at all on embedded videos for other services.
  4. The reason why they were separated was so that you could more easily select entities. Say you are placing a group of units and want to adjust them, but they are placed in the middle of a bunch of grasses, random objects and some decals. If you select everything under the mouse you would have to select the units individually (or be extremely careful in case they are not right on top of the actors but just near them), even if you want to move all of them. If actors and entities are separated you just have to box select the units and then move them or rotate them to be like you want them Maybe selecting everything should be the default, I don't know which is the best (the benefit of people not knowing how to select something is that they can come and ask for it, if they can select everything I would doubt that they would come asking/looking for a way to only select some things ).
  5. Thinking about it a bit more , the thing that actually is the worst to me is that the video is starting automatically. It's more than a little annoying , but more importantly it means that someone visiting our forums doesn't get a chance to choose whether or not to view the video. To me that makes a big difference. If someone has chosen to click on a video to view it they do at least have some responsibility for seeing the ads.
  6. In the first case at he is referring to the commercial which runs before the Twitch video on the embedded player. As for whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. On the one hand Twitch needs to make some money, so I certainly don't mind that they have advertisements. Having ads (indirectly, but still) on our forums, especially when it's clear that we are not the ones who are behind them, isn't necessarily a bad thing. What is bad is that we have no control over what is displayed.
  7. That still a pretty big and vague thing to say though, I mean it could mean anything from a special ability/tech for a civ, to something applied to one or more buildings, to something depending on territory, to something else I guess. I personally don't have much of an opinion for or against either of them, though I'd say I*d prefer something linked to e.g. houses or some specific building over something more general/tied to territory. That way you would have to spend something for each increase in income, and for that matter can be more strategic about e.g. where you build your houses. If it's just territory it feels as if players would be encouraged to spend a lot of time putting their buildings just the right distance from each other so they'd get the maximum territory. And that doesn't sound interesting at all, having a reason to careful with the houses, and value them more, could certainly be interesting though
  8. Your answer is actually in the title in a way Just use the Delete key on your keyboard (after having selected the object/objects with the select tools of course Use the Alt-key to select actors, which more or less are things the player can't interact with.).
  9. Agree with what? As far as I can see this thread is full of a lot of different ideas being thrown out, so there is not just one thing which can be agreed with or not.
  10. Not that I think it would be relevant in this case, but as a more general idea. That image of the reenactors made me think it could be cool to have the 0 A.D. 0 on a shield. I don't know if it would fit any of the civilizations, but if nothing else as a bit of an easter egg/something to use in PR Pretty low priority of course, but just as something nice to have
  11. I don't think that's a good idea to do it that way. We really don't want to encourage the other two ways too much, but putting them on the same tab would make it seem as if they are equally important. Also, as the information about SPI applies to both paying via credit card and PayPal it shouldn't "be on the same level", so I don't really think that much is gained by putting them on tabs. What I do think we certainly should change is put the information about where the money goes at the top, it feels a bit hidden/"forgotten" there at the bottom. What do you think @Jeru?
  12. Well, we could restrict permissions, but sometimes someone might have something that's worth posting here, so it's less effort to just move things which don't belong here. Which is the case with this topic now that I think of it. I guess I'll move it to the general discussions forum.
  13. Not setting up a framework to make it easier to usefully test the game will not make those patches automatically finished and put in the game. This is an opportunity for those who are not able to (or prepared to spend the time) to test or improve the code for the game to still be able to help out.
  14. If it ends up being successful it's definitely likely to end up being the official QA team If you want to help out with testing, please read through and then begin by testing:
  15. Hmm, not sure it's all that useful in practice though. On the forums where I've seen it it's mostly been a few old replies and people asking if there is anyone online. We might want to change the "IRC" bit in the header of the forums to "IRC Chat" or something though to make it easier for people who don't know what IRC is to find the chat we already do have
  16. It is just for testing discussion. Balancing etc can go in the general discussion and ideas forum.
  17. An archive forum makes sense once we have older posts to archive There is a suggestions post: I don't think guides belong in this forum, they are useful for everyone not just testers, but perhaps there can be a link to them in the intro topic.
  18. Ok, that is hard for us who are here now to know And as lion said, we are not concerned about him using art from the game. It was just weird to hear that he said he had worked on 0 A.D. when no one of us had heard of him being part of the project
  19. Do you want to help out with improving the game, but don't have the skills or time to help out with art or programming? Do you want to improve the game by playing it? Then this is your chance! We have come to the conclusion that we need to begin testing thew game more seriously to improve the balancing of the game. There are still some gameplay features left to be implemented, but the game is close enough to being finished that it's worth keeping it fun to play. Starting to test it more seriously at this point also means that we will have the system set up once we reach Beta and that we will be better prepared to bring the game through the Beta phase as quickly and as well as possible. To this end we have set up a Gameplay Testing forum, please check it out and if you have some time and are prepared to follow the simple procedure outlined please help out by playing some test matches. Before you do please read through the rules, it's not a good use of your time if the results can't be used We will be comparatively strict with the moderation in that forum, to make sure it's not flooded with comments that makes it hard to find the valuable information. If you want to discuss the gameplay balancing etc, please do so in the relevant forums.
  20. It's certainly something that would be nice to have, it's not to easy to implement though, so it might take a while before it happens.
  21. I have for quite some time felt that 0 A.D. deserves a more passionate and active project leader than me. I still care for the project and its progress, but I don't have the same interest in it any more. That might be fine for a semi-regular contributor, but it's not ideal when you're the project leader. Now I've found the perfect replacement: Nicolas Auvray, also known as Itms on the forums and in the IRC channels. He has been a part of the project for several years now, and has proved to be a valuable contributor, a sensible and thoughtful leader, and a good friend. I asked him whether he wanted to take over the leadership, after careful consideration he said yes and we presented the possibility to the team who agreed it was a good choice to move forward with Nicolas as the leader. I have confidence he will revitalize the team and work to guide 0 A.D. through the Alpha process and into Beta and beyond. I will still be around to help out with administrative tasks, being a part of Wildfire Games is too great to miss out on completely. Please also welcome Imarok who just became a part of the team! He's been an active and skillful contributor for quite some time now, so it's nice to be able to encourage that by welcoming him into the team.
