  1. Okay, although we'd like a list of links to your unit descriptions so that we can see if we have to sue you Got a website for the project yet?
  2. Speed isn't the problem, its historical reality which is this: there were no true female warriors. They may have occasionally fought in abnormal conditions i.e. last stand, or fight raiders when their husbands were gone, but this was extremely unusual. Even at Boudicca's defeat there is no great evidence that women fought. Sure Taciticus quotes Suetonius saying something to the effect of "Look...they're more women than men." But this is because the Celts brought their families to watch the battle, and considering that a part of the male population would now be dead from fighting the Romans and the naturally larger numbers of women in the world it make it understandable. Plus more than likely he was referring to the entire group, which would be what they could see, not just the warriors. Short answer: If there were female warriors in history we would have put them in.
  3. In that the historians mentioned her you would be right. That alone shows how unusual women warriors were in ancient times. Although obviously female units have existed, such as one African king who had a female bodyguard famous for their brutality. Or as in our times, Mohamar Gadaffi (sp?) of Libya who has a female bodyguard.....20 somthing female bodyguards watching a 60+ man Sad really....
  4. Like I do Needless to say, it will all make sense when the game comes out.
  5. And there has to be: "Got Matt?" "TIM?? HELP!!!"
  6. There will not be any standard female warriors in the game. The only people that might apply to would be the Sarmatians and even in that case females would have made up only a VERY small part of their army. And that was early on, since by the time the Sarmats were fighting the Romans there is no mention of female soldiers, something the conservative Roman historians would definately mention Remember that when you do your Google searches that many of the women mentioned as warriors were leaders and their armies would have been men. Anything you've heard about Celtic women fighting along with their husbands in organized battles is false. Again, its something the Roman historians would have mentioned....and didn't.
  7. "Oh sorry, I didn't recognize you standing among your camels." "*grumble* Celts.....Hey man! Keep the noise down and get a shirt!" "Come here! I've got a hobnailed sandle waiting to make contact with your posterior!" "Pretty wussy defensive walls man....you play with Lego lots?"
  8. Actually that is already done, because the Part I Romans are officially Republican Romans, while we always refer to the classic Romans (see my avatar <--) as Imperial Romans in all of our internal discussions. Likewise Romans after 300 AD are referred to as Late Romans. Plus there are divisions within the respective eras as well For instance there is a difference between a Caesarean legionnaire and a Roman from the Dacian wars Needless to say, the Imperial Romans will probably be the best civ in the game in everything, period. *dances* Even their basic units won't be so basic lol And we are also trying to avoid the RTW clones look, we are going for significant randomization IAAP. BTW, HistoryGuy you should check out the vacancies section on the 0 AD site
  9. I love Wilbur Smith's ancient Egypt books. River God is amazing, although Warlock is a little weird But they have good fights and action. Plus I love the original "historical" fiction book - The Illiad Anyone who hasn't read it, do so. I've read it three times and loved it even more each time.
  10. Nope, the Celts will not be representing either the Germans (early Marcomanni/Cherusci types and later Goths/Franks etc) or the Dacians. At this moment the Dacians are looking to be an independent side, but Germans, both early and late, are still questionable. But nothing is for certain and we are focusing on Part I atm. As far as Romans go, yes they are the same civ but the Late Romans were very different from the earlier ones. In Part I there will be the Pre-Marian army, and without a doubt the Marian army will be in Part II, and possibly a post-4th century AD army.
  11. In answer to your question, there was Republican Rome ruled by the consuls and the Senate, which was from the 6th century BC to the late 1st century BC. Then it became the Roman Empire after Octavian was made emperor. Two eras, two different armies. Plus there's possible talk of Late Empire Romans in Part II to confuse you even more Huns reeked havoc and were amazing fighters, gotta be in there. Dacians will be cool, for one thing they'll have one of the nastiest swords ever created
  12. To be sure, there is much artwork in development ATM and not just Celts. Forgive Jason, he's a Celt fan lol *gets demoted*
  13. Big nod and applause to Nate, Jason, and Stuart! Everything looks amazing
  14. I've got way better things to do than go chick-hunting. For one thing I want to get my career going before I get involved with someone. Last thing I need is to get hogtied to someone, like my cousin did poor dude.....Not for me!
  15. I love the new set up Stuart Good job. I have to agree with Bobby, it will make the game seem different and new. That can only help
  16. About 4 years ago me and my brother bought Star Trek: Armada. This was at a point in our lives when Star Trek was beyond cool, beyond amazing, beyond life We were planning on playing with a friend on MP when he bought it (he never did ), so I was planning on playing the Klingons and modified my real name to sound like it: Pa'al. Then I needed a new Hotmail account after my old one got swamped by the first major wave of junk mail on the net. Needing at least 8 characters in the name, it lengthened to Paal_101, which carried on into ST:A1 modding and therefore MSN and ICQ and as a result it has remained the same ever since =)
  17. Finish university or join the RCMP, whichever comes first I plan to do both, but ATM I'm waiting for the results from my RCMP apptitude test.
  18. I've heard some guys try to equate the Iberian's combat system to the Romans but I don't know anything about it. As far as I know, the manipular formation is Roman Plus if you tack the Byzantine Empire onto the Romans its getting aweful close to 2000 years
  19. Yehaaa! Anything with Romans makes me happy Boudicca, Hannibal, Gladiator 2, Denzel Washington's Hannibal Project.....and they win in all of them Hotdog! How much better can it get? Really, as long as the fights are good I am looking forward to all of them! @Sunshine - LOL especially if she were a Germanic slave
  20. Yeah, but why go through all the work of inventing when othe civs have invented all this cool tech and all you have to do is take it and modify it? That seems imminently smarter than reinventing the wheel so to speak Plus who had the best army until Napoleon? Ah I like Greeks too, but Romans simply rule! 0 AD will prove this, literally
  21. I've been doing uni since January from Athabasca University via distance education. Way cheaper than normal: $2500 CDN spent after one year of school after taxes
  22. @ downtowns - Thanks man I had fun writing it @ Mike - Dirty? Who do you think built those big baths? One day you Hellenphiles shall awaken to the light of Rome and see the true glory of the Empire!
