  1. Unfortunately every character will be the same height So no towering meat-eating Germans going to slam little Greeks raised on olives and cheese
  2. Because there is so much more to be done LOL 12 figures modeled out of, what? 270? Plus there are all the world objects and beasts
  3. Not in the Roman or Greek world. Celts and Germans were on average 6 feet tall. Average Romans were 5'7.
  4. Agreed There is so much that is strange to us westerners that really happened that we will not be showing. But then again, there will be a LOT that will be shown that will make you go "I did not know that!"
  5. Strangely enough it doesn't scare me Maybe its because I fight women in karate Believe me, in general the guys are the ones to be afraid of. There is the odd female who is VERY good but in general your average male is better than your average female, in my limited experience anyway. *prepares to get flamed *
  6. LOL yeah it could get a little chilly I don't know how they operated in those conditions. I believe that Celts didn't fight very much in the winter, they did that more in the spring and summer I think.
  7. Going buffer was also seen as a status symbol since usually only the largest (muscular, physical build ) and bravest warriors would do that. By doing it they exposed their bodies to extreme risk, while relying on tatoos, woad patterns, and spells to keep them safe. This could make huge impressions on their fellow countrymen, while scaring the bejabbers out of their opponents. Polybius tells of one humourous encounter with the Celts (at Telamon I belive) where the naked first ranks of the Celtic army wore their golden torques on their necks and arms. The Romans got over the shock of naked opponents and became very intent on killing the nudies as quickly as possible so they could take their gold
  8. Ah but this one will be a beautiful and fun realistic historically accurate game
  9. Woad is mostly a Briton thing IIRC, although the Gauls did do it as well, but Jason would know more than me. And there will be heavily armored Celts for your information, because the time period we are doing for them is well after they stopped fighting buff (which ended in the 3rd century BC, at least in mainland Europe).
  10. For auras we use heroes such as Hannibal, Xerxes, Socrates, Scipio, and Vercingetorix. Each one provides an aura that improves some aspect of unit performace i.e. faster construction, healing, fighting, speed, etc.
  11. Well we are not going for supernatural stuff in this game, simple historical fact as close as we can tell. Units will be healed by a priest unit in most cases, but it will be via herbs and practical whatnot instead of mysterious metaphysical cures.
  12. Very, although they say the fort housed an irregular unit at that time. My personal feeling is that they may have been related or married to the commanders of the unit. They probably recieved the sword for self-defence or the commanders gave up a fine scabbard (note that no swords were present) to commemorate the death of their wives/girlfriends/mistresses. Also, notice that they haven't certified that the bones are from the Danube. They only guess that these women are from the Danube because there was a unit present at the fort from that are at that time. Doesn't mean they weren't from the area, but there is no evidence to say that they weren't British prostitutes, Gallic wives, etc, etc. History is its own evidence and we have to believe what it says, but this is far from proven.
  13. Well, to resurrect this thread, here is an interesting find in Britain. Still highly circumstantial evidence and support being used, but it is interesting none the less. Also note that the two women found were 2 out of 180. RAT discussion of the find, conatins links to other material: http://p200.ezboard.com/fromanarmytalkfrm1...icID=1211.topic Also, for your information Mike Bishop is a major force in the Roman military history world
  14. The reason we are not posting an article about Jesus is that while Christianity had a massive effect on the world, until the 4th century AD it was one among people, not nations. Only after Constantine made it the state religion did Christianity have a direct political influence on world events. In addition, the game is not meant to be a religious one. Although many of the team members are Christian (inlcuding myself ) it is not something we felt was necessary to do. We may do some articles on ancient religion later on and how it affected the peoples of the game, but no Christianity articles will be done until we are closer to Part II and the Late Romans Concerning Longinus, there is no true evidence that he existed and is probably a myth. How long do you think a nearly blind soldier could keep that fact hidden from his centurion, despite his buddy's help? And game tutorials at this point in time are very premature, since there isn't even an alpha yet. But rest assured, all that is coming
