  1. I saw Bill Clinton climb into Air Force 1 when he stopped in Vancouver one time I was like 900 feet away, but I could see him climb up, turn around and wave, silhouetted by the sunset, pretty cool for a 7 year old. What was even sweeter was seeing both the new 747 AF1 and the old 707 AF1 at the same time! The 707 was the same one that took Kennedy to Dallas and Johnson was sworn into office aboard. As far as airplanes go, that's major celebrity Plus I saw the Wright Flyer, Spirit of St. Louis, and the X-1
  2. "You ever actually thought about....*cough* ....training???"
  3. Cool texture David, but I really need to see the skin on a model before I can judge fully. From what I can tell it looks bueno
  4. Doesn't matter because Fun and Games posts don't count anyway Boy Nathan, you pay too much attention to numbers LOL
  5. Don't know if this is old news or not, but I just saw it the other day and got a big kick out of it Question: How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: 1,445 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed; 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently; 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs; 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs; 53 to flame the spell checkers; 41 to correct spelling/grammar flames; 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"; 6 to condemn those 6 by telling them 'to get a life'; 156 to pm various forum staff complaining that members posting in this topic are violating the TOS; 109 to post that this topic about light bulbs is not in the correct forum and for mods to please move this topic; 203 to demand that this topic is completely irrelevant for these forums and for a mod to please close the topic; 111 to defend the posting of this topic by saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this forum; 306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty; 27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs; 14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's; 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this forum which makes light bulbs relevant to this forum; 33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"; 12 to post that they will no longer post in these forums because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy; 19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"; 4 to suggest that someone write up a FAQ tutorial about changing light bulbs; 44 to ask what a FAQ tutorial is; 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"; 143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"; 34 to mention other search engines you could use; 66 to start contemplating where the words "light bulb" originated; 1 forum administrator to post that the lightbulb controversy generated the most posts; 1 'n00b' to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.
  6. LOL no kidding I believe TLA is using standards, although Adam or one of the Tolkien boys would have to confirm that.
  7. At this point there are no plans for standards in Part I, but who knows? Would be nice to have the legions rally around the aquila
  8. Kopis is like the falcata except slightly more slender and a bit longer, but the standard falcat models will work for them. In many cases they had leather grips, while some had entirely ivory/bone grips and pommels. Those falcatas look awesome!
  9. Definatley the Celtic find is getting a lot of people excited. Among the helmets was a type not previously encountered. It has a swan built into the bowl that curves up at the front. Probably ceremonial, but its totally new Don't expect it in 0 A.D. though Plus some Celtic standards were found, and that is way cool.
  10. My late grandfather (from Florida, born in Chicago) was always telling me and my brother, and to some degree our mom (his daughter - American born) that we talked different. Mostly it was that we Canucks rolled our C's accordingly to him. Plus I can't explain it, but Americans are easy to tell up here lol An old joke in Canada: There are no rude Canadians, those are just Americans on vacation LOL being a dual citizen with large American connections I can get away with saying that I can definatley see why you'd want to pretend to be a Canuck abroad though....
  11. Well here are links to two major archaelogical finds in the last few weeks. One is a recently discovered monument set up by Sulla (Mike calm down! ) to celebrate a victory over a Pontic general in Greece. http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_artic...8/12/2004_50471 Here's the Roman Army Talk forum discussion about it: http://p200.ezboard.com/fromanarmytalkfrm1...icID=1191.topic The second one is a discovery of a Gallic relgious offering that includes no less than FIVE almost totally intact carnyx - Celtic war trumpets, in addition to 10 swords, and 9 helmets. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...ry_041127195805 And again, here is the RAT discussion: http://p200.ezboard.com/fromanarmytalkfrm1...icID=1181.topic Enjoy!
  12. Plus the phalanx could not turn one side of its formation to face a threat without compromising another flank. They all had to turn as one.
  13. Awww shucks thanks man That grade came from you Argy, only you could practice for you. Glad we could provide a place for you to practice Congrats!
  14. Understood David BTW, save some falcatas for kopis', they have a totally different material make up than the falcata.
  15. I'm no texture guy so I'd have to see them on the model, but from what I can tell they look good But the final verdict will come when they are on models.
  16. The phalanx was dead by the time of the Second Punic War. Yeah it was dangerous, but there were three major ways a phalanx could get into trouble: terrain, training, and organization. Terrain: Phalanx needed flat ground without obstruction like rocks or trees, otherwise the formation breaks up. Training: Romans were highly trained and the Hellenistics, while formidable, were not nearly as professional as even the citizen soldiers of the Punic Wars. Once the Romans got past the phalangites' spears they were butchered because they knew squat about sword fighting. Organization: Roman units were infinately divideable, from 5400 man legion down to 8 man contuburnium (sp?). The Battle of Cynoscephalae (sp? again) shows how flexible the legions could be. Plus the phalanx was extremely vulnerable to outflanking or encirclement because it was extremely rigid, unlike the manipular battle system used by the Romans. Where do you think we get our word "manipulate"? Plus as far as Germans go, after Teutonburg Wald the Romans came back in 16 AD and kicked the Germans in the head at Idistaviso! My apologies to all German members of the board And for Hannibal, he relied heavily on his Celtic allies and Spanish mercenaries to wear down the Romans before he ever sent in his phalanx of African pikemen. At Trasimene and Cannae the Celts did most of the heavy fighting, and at Zama Hannibal's phalanx was held back to prevent the troops in front of them from running!
  17. Well when someone with unique skills comes along we need to be opportunistic Mind if we 0 A.D. hacks consult you on archery Silenril?
  18. Very good looking Great variation in hilts and grips, altough the blood on all the blades might be a bit much. It'd be a bit weird to see a guy marching around in kit with a bloody sword yet he just came out of the military center Great work!
  19. Hello! Well I need to take archery and fencing, and if you like Tolkien you've come to the right place. You don't happen to have a thing for ancient combat do you?
  20. Oh yeah, there are weapons I don't know Like I still don't know what a spiculum looks like *embarrassed* Or a Jewish curved dagger....
  21. LOL sorry Klaas I keep thinking you live in the Neatherlands for some reason I never knew that Belgian and Dutch cops carried guns, you guys are on the right track Coming from North America, cops without guns = way weird Besides, remember that drugs don't pay unless you turn the dealers in for reward.
  22. Oh!!! Jabbers = Akinakes, a Persian short sword They usually had bronze hilts and pommels, maybe iron in more northern versions. Grips could be bronze or conceivabley brown, black, or red leather. Plus the early gladii had bronze hilts and pommels, but some could have wooden furniture. The grips were most often bone, but sometimes wood. Bone is the most common. Greek swords could have an all bronze grip, pommel, and hilt, or be completely iron, or have a leather grip. Any more questions just let me know!
  23. Good work David! Those Celtic swords are awesome I'll get a list of materials to you ASAP. I believe the jabber swords you are referring to are the gladii?
  24. He opened the thread with "hey ladies" so we are just responding in kind
