Cannot make fantom button as first button that equal to cancel? Actual order of buttons equates to end-user experience based upon expectation. it is odd that thousand of other application can make this work but 0 A.D. cannot. Anyway, my main thing was that the comment in the ticket was saying that Windows standard was 'No' on left, which is untrue. It stuck in the face as wrong. -
The cavalry right now use Imperial Gallic helmets, but we can do better for the Batavians and Auxiliary cavalry dudes. Two variation: I like the two-tone of color on these^.
-
Guys, the Praetorians in Delenda Est are cavalry (I can throw in a Praetorian foot soldier into the mod too for scenario or other purpose). And of course these helmets can be use for other soldier too. I think the primary Praetorian helmet variations can be these two: Embellished Attic helmet. Probably only use when in parade or when in presence of emperor as bodyguard, nevertheless would make for a distinct helmet. I think it would have a row of vertical feather along the top from front to back, like 10-15 feather. Imperial Italic An embellish type of Imperial Gallic helmet. For Praetorians it can have the feathers instead of plume like the Attic one above. Feathers for Both Instead of solid crest, would be nice to distnguish with row of feathers instead, this: They would need to be player color of cours because we cannot ignore such a prominent area for player color.

I think this one with about 10 feathers along the top would be good. The Praetorians in the mod are cavalry. Also, the Imperial Italic G helmet with feathers instead of horse crest would be good to have too: (Feathers...) There are other cavalry helmet that would be good to have too. I will make threads. -

Shouldn't the Esc behavior be fix instead?! -
In some latest commit and on Trac (here: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/3524 ) it is claim that Windows button order is 'No' on left and 'Yes' on right, ("The convention is to have "No" on the left-hand-side as in windows." - Trac). This is incorrect, I wonder how such mistake can be made. It make it awkward in the game. Almost every Window dialog I have seen (and I just check right now) is: [ Yes ] [ No ] [ Cancel ] Positive action on left, negative action on right look like Windows standard. 0 A.D. is opposite of this for some reason. How can it be claim that it is not this way? Counter example would be good tho. Not attack, just wonder. I can be wrong. Maybe there is some other justification.

Civ: Imperial Romans (Principates)

I will texture Praetorians today. They might needa new helmet (I maybe make "helmet" thread soon). I sync to Github all the new Legionary Barrack tech and Lanciarius visual improvement today. Onager texture for now can just be a 1x1 brown color until someone unwrap and make real texture. New buildings should be: Colosseum Wonder Auxiliary Barracks (or Legionary Barracks -- one can use the old barrack model and the other can use a new model) Hadrian's Wall models for Siege Walls upgrade. -

k guys. For Legionary Barracks I have these tech so far: Training tech line Levy Legionaries (Legionary Infantry -10% train time) -> Mobilize Legions (Faster batch training) -> Recall the Evocati (Insanely fast batch training) Rank Promotion tech line Decanus (Upgrade Legionarius to Advanced Rank) -> Optio (Upgrade Legionarius to Elite Rank) -> Primus Pilus (Reduce promotion to Centurion from 5 kills to 1 kill) Legionary Infantry Health "Aquila" Eagle Standards (Legionary Infantry +10% health) May need help to think of some tech for Auxiliary Barracks. -
Guys, let's talk about thing that can improve gameplay. Lets not talk about high-level features like formations. I'll give you example: Player and AI should be able to build building over single tree. This can help AI greatly when place building and gives players easier management of building placement. Tree don't block building placement and disappear when foundation put down. This can be done with tag or element in template so we can make mines unbuildable but trees and some eye candy buildable. (In my mod I'd make groves unbuildable but single tree buildable). When task player to chop a tree, attack a enemy structure or unit, or go mine metal, or any task like this, the target should flash white, briefl, to give player feedback to the eye.Any other idea like these? Low-level. Not high-level concept.

Then you should lose like a n00b. Praetorian Guard Cavalry for champion cavalry.

Model: Principate Romans Wonder: Colosseum
wowgetoffyourcellphone replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Delenda Est
Hmm, is old and ugly, but could be good placeholder waiting for new model. Remember the Hanging Garden have 20,000 triangle? If new Colosseum have equal or less than that I think it's ok. -
Gameplay Feature: Battalions and Formations

Anger aside Darc's comment about "watering down" the concept is the main thing for me. If the concept is solid then don't water it down and add unnecessary step. -
Family portrait coming together nice.

Gameplay Feature: Battalions and Formations
wowgetoffyourcellphone replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Delenda Est
Right and if that the case (I have play that game so you are right they are trained like 1 soldier at a time but then they gather into battalions on their own), then why not just train them as 1 battalion from the beginning instead of make the soldiers auto-form the battalion after they are trained? Makes unnecessary step your way. Just skip that step and make them battalion friom the beginning. -

And floor have many phallus post like this: -
Hi guys. Principate Romans wonder is Amphitheatrum Flavium, aka The Colosseum. Was wonder if someone would like to take crack at it! I think it footprint should be a little bit less than the Hanging Gardens in the game. Shape from top: Oval Shape plus Statues (can reuse the statue decals from Civic Center save polygons?) Here you see the awnings or sails over the top. Great opportunity for player color:

I think Mauryan wonder is complete tho? But zebu don't move legs yet and trader dude is still greek dude.

I don't want that micro. Point of battalion is to remove tedious micro and focus on activity of groups of soldier instead (move micro away from one area toward a more interesting area like charging and flanking and shield walls and all that stuff; remember player only have finite amount of concentration). Plus with persistent battalion you can have cool upgrade and powerups that would be difficult to have without persist battalion. -
A thureos spearman with a linothorax would be a Thorakites right? I just had good idea for Tech. Thank you! PS: Game already have plenty of texture, you can just edit the unit actor to have texture you like.

I think cavalry now have trouble gather from sheep? Reproduce anyone?
-
Agree. In cavalry duel spear become useless against sword. Spear good for charge and attack enemies on foot from saddle.

Gameplay Feature: Battalions and Formations
wowgetoffyourcellphone replied to wowgetoffyourcellphone's topic in Delenda Est
On contrary, I care not for 300 individual soldiers moshing around battlefield. I don't care if a single soldier live or die. A whole battalion dying I would care about. Also, with battalion system we can have named legio and regiment, with authentic shields and banner. I would care about a unique battalion with a name ("Sons of Ares", "Legio XII Victrix Gemina") more than hundreds of individual no-name soldier. See what I mean? -

Female citizen would be single units, yes. And Darc is right that the resources would have roughly same number of slot as number of soldier in typical battaliion. And people would need to adjust their thinking for concept: You don't have 250-300 unit, you have something like 70-100 -- battalion is one 'unit'. So you have 20 battalion of soldier (each battalion 10 pop) and then 50+ single support unit (healers, citizens, traders, etc.). I could even see traders being like a battalion where you can train or group them into convoy or caravan for boost in speed and protection.
