  1. I love that merchant ship! Not sure if useful, but I feel it could be good to have the sail with less red stripes, then more white, to ensure the downscaled icon would look very different to the other boat's icon. Side by side, those two feel rather similar in their upper part, and it could be a little be confusing at small size. Out of that, this is all excellent. I'm really amazed by what you come up with Lordgood. Ships seem to be an inspiring area for you!
  2. WAOW ! I LOVE your boat Lordgood! The Eye and the light on the boat are impressive, really beautifully done! The soldier is pretty good, though his face could be more visible. Anyway, you begin to rock as an icon artist!
  3. I agree, the presence of the beams make the structure look interesting. What I suggest is not especially to apply to all houses, but I'm curious on how it would look on at least one of them, talking about variations. Those doors look good though more medieval than ancient to me. But well, I have o reference to say actually, just a feeling... I'd say that those houses feel comfortable, socially rather high.
  4. Cool! On some or all the houses, I suggest to "plaster" the roof timber beams. Just 3 polygons over those beams with the same texture as the roof terrace. I think that would look more realistic. Just a suggestion. Also, the timber doors look very good but maybe too impressive for houses. Maybe it's because they are double doors instead of single ones...
  5. I love your house Enrique, just impeccable.
  6. I think a paler color would be better. Here's a reference for en egyptian house with important walls. I like your house Enrique. I suggest having one with the up terrace fully covered by the "tent", considering it's Egypt and the more shadow the better. And with a nice textile texture, that would looks really good. And a not-important suggestion : change the grass surface by some sand or gravel, so that we feel more in Egypt !
  7. Yesterday I discovered a DJ who's from Algeria but actually plays an Indian style of music, and it's just fabulous : Dj Cheb i Sabbah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7wREhjZOAc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZopgJHpLyW8
  8. Waow! That's an epic point of view! The thing now is to have the picture clearer, because for now we hardly distinguish what it is.. One worry with the yellos background is that it's too close to the color of the rest. Can you try a version with much less saturation in the background color ? As always, Lordgood, put your icon in a very small size and check if it looks clear. This one doesn't. But sure there is something to get out this excellent sight. I suggest you simplify the surfaces, put out the metal plates in the up part and for the moment try it without the woo fibers lines, to see how it works in a more "skecthy" form. It also could be interesting to rotate the ballista just a little, so we get to see it's "tail" and have a better sense of the perspective and it's ball would appear clearer, ejected in a slight diagonal toward the up right corner. Just a suggestion. About the camel head : mmm, I think the nose and the top and back of the nose is a bit tood different from what we can see in photo, and same for the eyes, which should look a bit more round than like thin lines... Well, that's how I feel it.
  9. Great great work Lordgood, it seems your improving along this tough icon exercise ! I like your boat very much, very good work on the wood. One comment about the camel icon : your camel head is bothering me... Something is wrong about it, maybe the ears, or the eyes. That's probably not much to fix. Here's a picture from the web to compare... What do you think ?
  10. And my third post in a row ! I just found a cool page with very detailed war ships from the Ptolemaic Egypt ! http://www.navistory...ptolemaique.php Here is a "Pentere Lagide" : now a "Octère Lagide" : Plus a huge "30" oars rows : I haven't read all the text, but it says that the Roman ships were much more dynamic in comparison to these huge Ptolemaic "elephants of the sea" That seems a weak point to be used when we will need to give balance to the civ in the game. I recommend you check the Ancient ships page on the same site : http://www.navistory.com/pages/antiquite.php There are useful matter for more than the Ptolemaic Egypt.
  11. In France we have a lot of good production of History-related cartoons, and a recent one that I have at home is "Sur les terres d'Horus" ("On Horus Lands"). It's happening in the time of Ramses II, but in case some pictures can be an inspiration, I post some excerpts here, quickly collected on the web. If you want more, I can scan some specific details, architecture, costumes, etc). The author did a good job at picturing the period (though it's not Ptolemaic). I read that she got help from Egyptologists for this cartoon. If those pictures are definitely not useful for the Ptolemaic period, I can remove them to keep the topic fully-Ptolemaic. You History specialists tell me!
  12. @Lordgood : Cool to see that you're making progresses in Blender! For your texture, as you probably not yet know how to UV map easily, I suggest you set your texture on "Object" in the "Mapping" section of texture settings. Often it got me satisfying result for a quick texturing test. Also, this texture needs a rescale, maybe x10. If its size is for now set to 1 in X, Y and Z, enter 10. Well, these are advices from a newbie in Blender ! I guess others will have better to suggest ! By the way, that "Merge vertices" is very interesting. I haven't used it yet. I am meeting a few other basic problems in Blender, and will discuss them out of this topic. @Enrique : waow, those statues are super cool... Just one note : the Anubis looks great but from what I've seen until now of Egypt, Anubis statues are often small, at least not at the scale of a sphinx. That maybe needs to be checked, but I think this Anubis should be almost twice smaller. You're searching for colored walls ? You mean egyptian walls with colors painted on their coating ? Do you need references or actual textures ? Same for "tiles" : you mean you search for roof tiles ? ... I've seen nothing like that. If you mean tileable egyptian walls textures, that too I haven't seen... But I'll see if I can find helpful material. EDIT : could the Agora movie be a useful source ? It's set in Alexandria in the late 4th century... Here's an aerial photo of the set.
  13. @LordGood : I like that scene! Sure, please don't ruin it !
  14. Great work Enrique, really great. I'm glad you're producing these structures. I'm impressed by your UV mapping care for ornamental details... Like Mythos_Ruler, I prefer the 4th building for the CC.
  15. LOL LionKanzen is sooooo fast that!! ok, yes I use Gimp for photomanipulation, Blender for 3D and Inkscape for all kinds of layout, logos and posters. I do work on Linux-Ubuntu.
  16. Hello Pallav, welcome to the forum! Could you show us some examples of your previous work ? That helps to get started together.
  17. Sure, 0 A.D. doesn't need this at all. Even few animation movies can afford such realism! For 0AD's water, there could be much more humble water improvements, such as rivers flowing downhill or rain. Basic implementation of those things would be a nice add someday.
  18. Hey Inchanger, salut ! Can you show us examples of your work ? That would be helpful to judge what kind of work we can put you into, and that's how we usually start connecting with new members. Thanks.
Thank you Inchanger for joining us and offering your skills in 3D and programming, this is much welcomed! As I explained just above in french, you will have to use english in the forum in order to have everybody understand you. You can count on me to help you and correct you as much as needed to improve your english level. Just tell me when you need translation and mediation. You say you are a professional in 3D and lead a team on this that could be helpful. Woaw, that's an interesting point! Some staff heads will come to you soon to give you more informations on a way to work together. Oh, could you show us examples of your work ? (là, mon anglais, par exemple, tu as tout compris ? histoire de voir quoi )
  20. Talking about water, here is an impressing demonstration of highly realistic water motion, made by PhysX : http://io9.com/this-jaw-dropping-water-simulation-is-the-most-realisti-479431439 Enrique, do you plan to go on with the waterfalls ?
  21. Tonight I watched MONGOL, a biopic of Gengis Khan. This is not in the timeframe of 0 A.D., but it's a very good film with great costumes, weaponry and depiction of the people's life and culture. I enjoyed it a lot. It's a Russian/Mongol/Kzakh/German production ! It's great to have such quality productions from countries that are not USA sometimes!
  22. A few days ago I updated the Facebook with a screenshot of the Mauryan boats : and someone commented this : "I have a Little suggestion for improved realism. Boats should dive more in to water. its seems they are flying instead of floating." I agree with him. But as far as I know, in the game engine, the water surface cuts through the boat and would appear inside it if its deck went under the water level, right ? So, here, I would like to discuss if there is a possibility to change that. Is there a way to tell the engine not to display water inside the boat 3D volume ? something like that? Like a specific water-behaviour data attached to every boat model. For my naive point of view, that doesn't seem so much to program, but maybe it is...
  23. Good approach Pureon, thanks for revamping the UI that way !
