I know three important accounts about them: Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), Battle of Delium (424 BC) and Battle of Nemea (394 BC) In the three, there is no mention of their panoply. The best we have is Thermopylae where Herodotus does not detail the Thespians' armor separately from the rest of the Greeks. He describes the Greek forces collectively using long spears and shields. During the final stand, he notes that after their spears broke, the remaining defenders (including the 700 Thespians) fought with swords (xiphē), and eventually with their bare hands and teeth.1 point

Maybe when the encyclopedia will be available within the game we could explain the context and the nuance around the concept of Marian reforms.1 point

I believe 0 A.D. has enormous potential – not just as a game, but as a platform for storytelling and community-created content. As someone who has created many scenarios in Age of Empires II, I see a key opportunity for 0 A.D.: Make the power of the engine easier to use. Right now, creating interesting scenarios often requires programming knowledge. This excludes a huge part of the potential creator community. My suggestion in 3 points: 1. Unify Triggers and Scripts A visual trigger system for beginners using simple Conditions → Actions. JavaScript remains available for advanced users. The two should become different levels of the same system rather than feeling like separate tools. 2. Upgrade Atlas Make Atlas a true scenario creation environment – with objectives, events, dialogues, reinforcements, ambushes, and dynamic gameplay. The creator should be able to focus on story and gameplay, not constantly think about the code required to make an idea work. 3. A Small Official Campaign – 3 Scenarios It doesn't need to be a huge campaign. Three well-designed scenarios could be enough to demonstrate what 0 A.D. can do. But there is an even bigger opportunity: Make the campaign editable and use it as documentation. Players could open the scenarios in Atlas, study how they work, modify them, experiment, and learn by doing. The official campaign would become more than content. It would become a living tutorial for scenario creation. The Vision Play → Discover → Learn → Create → Share → Contribute A player finishes an official scenario. They think: "I want to make something like this." They open Atlas. They experiment. They create their own scenario. They share it with the community. And eventually, that player may become a contributor. Why This Matters to Me I have experience with Age of Empires II scenario design, and I would genuinely love to contribute to 0 A.D. However, due to health limitations, I can't code or work on complex systems for long periods. That's exactly why I care about this problem. I know how technical complexity can prevent a great idea from becoming a playable experience. My suggestion comes from both sides – as a player, and as someone who wants to create. The Opportunity Much of the foundation is already there. The potential is already there. The community is already there. The opportunity is to make that potential easier for everyone to use. 0 A.D. doesn't necessarily need to become more complicated. It needs to make its existing power more accessible. Give players the tools to become creators.1 point

They were originally iconoclasts. They did not like to worship images. This is similar to the ark of the covenant; the ark is supposed to be the throne of Yahweh, but for them this altar was where their invisible god was. "Altars were also sometimes used as a representation of the gods. There is little evidence of Nabataean iconoclasm. Most of the deities were portrayed as betyls, sometimes carved in relief and others carried during processions."1 point

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabataean_religion They also worshipped Baalshamin. They are Semites and are related to the Idumeans, Israelites, and Judeans. It has its own gods. They have their sacred monuments. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baetyl1 point

0 A.D. use it's own homemade engine and I don't think that will change anytime soon. Also starting from scratch makes the project above like not that much work in comparison lol1 point

Lack of volunteers and manpower. If people of our generation dedicated themselves more to creating than consuming, we would have more people volunteering.1 point

For the Hittites they could have a better ram than the log; although Hittite rams were probably used to strike wall ramparts rather than gates (and so were the assyrian tower rams). Description of Ḫattušili I's siege of Ursu: https://www.academia.edu/23917712/Ancient_Near_Eastern_Battering_Rams_Questioning_their_Penetrative_Power_and_Target_Location No further description, but it might have resembled the rams in earlier levantine seals (Assyrian ram might be good enough placeholder). https://www.researchgate.net/publication/42091652_Representations_of_battering_rams_and_siege_towers_in_early_Bronze_Age_Glyptic_Art Siege towers are also mentioned in the same siege. Harput relief siege tower (tentatively dated 2000 due to the style)1 point

@AsherOh! Indeed, you are right! Here is an update correcting this behaviour as well. If you could test it, please? (on my R28 and R29 installations it seems to work) modiomod-r28.zip modiomod-r29.zip modiomod-changes.md1 point

https://www.oriental-studies.org.ua/en/smirnou-syncretism-in-the-religious-life-of-ancient-palmyra-in-the-3rd-century-сe/ I'm going to leave this here and let you know that I'm working together with other developers in Palmira. I am working on the symbology of Palmyra and it is complicated to choose symbols for a very syncretic city. It's impressive, but there aren't many images or details online about this faction. Apart from sculptures and other objects, there aren't many clear images from the 3rd century. There is very little art from that period; the original gods of Palmyra are almost entirely unrepresented. It's interesting that they had an anonymous god just like the Athenians. They had Bel and Baalshamin, two gods from different triads. Baalshamin is similar to Canaanite Baalshamin but more advanced and does not share a monotheism like Yahweh, it is a syncretism between Baal and the god El. He has armor, which indicates that he is a warrior god.(similar to Semitic gods in armor fighting in the skies). I am developing a new eagle, I don't know if as an emblem or as another symbol. Baalshamin is probably a kind of Semitic Zeus; he appears alongside eagles as a symbol. Being an economically Semitic civilization, the gateway to the Silk Road, it is a city of trade and many foreigners with their gods. This city and its civilization should be in the game. It's unique, a cultural mix of things. Visually, they can be unique. This god is represented in what some call the anti-classical style. All that we see represented in late art, the lack of realism and naturalness in favor of facial expressions. https://pressbooks.bccampus.ca/cavestocathedrals/chapter/late-empire/ This will also be useful later on.1 point

Archeologically, the term Rhine-Weser Germanic is used after the Roman conquest and the creation of the Roman empire. What you have in mind are the Ubii, the Usipetes and the Tencteri but their identification is uncertain. Materially they are Celtic. The Ubii had the oppidum of Dünsberg.1 point

If you want to stay focused on the period between 500 BC and 1 AD, I suggest to choose the following: - Cimbri (Jutland) - Suevi (Elbe-Germanics) - Lugii (East-Germanics) - Bastarnae (East-Germanics?) The Cimbri could be based on material from Jutland and the events of the Cimbric war. The Suevi could be based on material from Jastorf and Grossromstedt cultures and the events related to Ariovistus: Iron-Age-in-northern-Germany.pdf The Lugii could be based on material of the Przeworsk and Oksywie cultures. The Bastarnae could be based on material of the Poienesti culture and their invasion of the Balkans between 200 and 100 BC:1 point

There is no deep plan yet. I'll need someone with a deeper understanding of the game's code to help me do this part, or, at least, make it possible in the base game's code for mods to add battalions of this type, even if public mod ("Empires Ascendant") doesn't use the feature.1 point

@Perzival12 I'm planning to make a campaign with the Iberians. I think it's something different and original. I already have some scenario ideas and I want to try the editor. The campaign is called "The Fire of Freedom" and you play as Viriatus, a Lusitanian chief fighting against Rome. @ShadowOfHassen If anyone has suggestions or is familiar with the editor, I'd love some help to bring my ideas to life. Thanks in advance! Let me know what you think!1 point

I like this idea. Not everyone uses Discord, and Telegram is a great option for people who already have it installed. It doesn't have to replace the forum—it's just another way for the community to stay connected and get quicker responses.1 point

I have a question: the programming is different regarding the movement and behavior of a LOTR BFME battalion. How do you plan to modify that without touching the engine?1 point

News: Following my initial idea and combining it with the Endovelico mod (however, I'm developing it completely separately for easy application for anyone who wants to use it) World map: Made with GeoJson using the QGIS application; It is now possible to train more than one Hero/General. Coming soon: FrogWar, province defense updates, and perhaps skirmish maps entirely focused on combat, a total war-like hybrid. I'm still seeing what's possible at the moment.1 point

In the screenshot I selected some faces which wouldn't be visible in the game and should be deleted. You can activate the statistics overlay in blender to keep track of the tris. Next step is to make seams and UV map the model. All models in the game use a 2d texture which is wrapped around the 3d model.1 point

I'd get rid of it entirely, they were not at all used in combat whatsoever, if they have to stay in the game at least make them much weaker (and more clothed) but they get an advantage when in the vicinity of a mauryan hero (that would make it more realistic)0 points

Artemisia - Recherche Google seems this heroe is not emblematic Artemisia II : she @#$%s with her brother but she built a good building with a big aura so why not , she is more greek than persian (she is carien as you said) Lǚ Mǔ — Wikipédia she has a low history frankly Teuta — Wikipédia no opinion , this civ will never be in 0AD i guess0 points
