@wowgetoffyourcellphone wasn't aware that mods have thumbnails, except delenda est which is far more than just a mod Here are screenshots of the download screens as a referncee and to orient where an how we could place the thumbnails: This is the mod.io download screen (on R28) indicating which mods are already installed (green), and which of the installed mods could be updated with a newer version (yellow) And this is when the button "Filter valid mods" is disabled. All mods are shown and thos not compatible and not installed are shown in grey.1 point

Hey there, I´ve been thinking about ways to improve the team vs team gameplay and I came up with something probably very obvious but still not implemented in the game. I was thinking, that being able to place certain buildings in your teammates area or at least being able to connect walls could be extremly usefull. Just think about the map "2 seas" wouldn´t it be extremly cool to be able to build a huge wall along your teams territory without being forced to expand your teritory along the whole lenght of the map? Being ablet to connect your own with your teammates walls would also lead to a much more safe defense as when you try to build your walls as close to eachother as possible. And it wouldn´t only benefit if you want to build crazy line defense. It would probably also lead to a greater variety of nations being played in pvp. The reason for this would be that buffs that a certain nation has, e.g. Cushites, which posses the Great Pyramid or the Small Pyramid, can not only be used for oneself, but also for the whole team, which would give the whole team an immense buff in comparison for to what they may lose by picking a weaker nation. And yes even though there are only 3 nations with buildings such as the Small Pyramid (Cushites, Mauryas and Iberians) it would benefit them and allow more interactions between you and your teammate. (Maybe you can add the Romans if you add the building "Via" which gives units walking on them a buff in their speed) Now lets face the problems: 1. Being able to place anything in your mates territory could also mean that you can place a barrack close to his civic center, switch teams and kill him. The solution would be that you can only place buildings in your teams territory when you play fixed teams. 2. How can I make sure, that my mate dosen´t trolls me by blocking of all my space? Here are two solutions either you can disable the function before starting the match or you can disable it in the match at any give time. 3. Wouldn´t it be broken if my team would be able to place e.g. their barracks in my territory, so they can always produce units when I am under attack. As it saves them a lot of time and is way safer then walking to me with their units? (And also it would be basically be the same as one player but with three heads (I think you get what I mean) And I agree, its a valid concern but I think this could be fixed by not allowing every building to be placed in your teams territory (e.g you can place the Great Pyramid or maybe even a tower, but not a barrack or houses) I hope it wasn´t too much of a burden reading my post and let me here your oppinion1 point

I think a lot goes against the current gameplay. The diaspora from the market gets shortcut. It is possible with a workaround: The enemy can capture buildings in one players territory. The ally could capture it back and have a small territory to start from. This is a very useful, rare and fun mechanic. I like it in this form as it is. This way, as a team, one can have more dense towers. This may result in the border player placing their fields at the pocket player and the pocket player placing their military buildings at the border player. The current movement mechanic gets disturbed. The civilians wouldn't need to flee back and the military from the pocket would already be at the front. Making attack timing very different (worse). But what I'd like: If you could just place a building foundation at the ally from your cost, it belongs to your ally and (maybe) is of his civilization. Often times a player gets attacked always from one flank and he wouldn't place a tower there. Then one sends them the resources and he could build it. Same for barracks, forts etc..1 point

That's expected, you need to download the prebuilt shaders for vulkan or build them yourself. There should be a script for it https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/src/branch/main/source/tools/spirv/get-nightly-shaders.sh1 point

https://www.oriental-studies.org.ua/en/smirnou-syncretism-in-the-religious-life-of-ancient-palmyra-in-the-3rd-century-сe/ I'm going to leave this here and let you know that I'm working together with other developers in Palmira. I am working on the symbology of Palmyra and it is complicated to choose symbols for a very syncretic city. It's impressive, but there aren't many images or details online about this faction. Apart from sculptures and other objects, there aren't many clear images from the 3rd century. There is very little art from that period; the original gods of Palmyra are almost entirely unrepresented. It's interesting that they had an anonymous god just like the Athenians. They had Bel and Baalshamin, two gods from different triads. Baalshamin is similar to Canaanite Baalshamin but more advanced and does not share a monotheism like Yahweh, it is a syncretism between Baal and the god El. He has armor, which indicates that he is a warrior god.(similar to Semitic gods in armor fighting in the skies). I am developing a new eagle, I don't know if as an emblem or as another symbol. Baalshamin is probably a kind of Semitic Zeus; he appears alongside eagles as a symbol. Being an economically Semitic civilization, the gateway to the Silk Road, it is a city of trade and many foreigners with their gods. This city and its civilization should be in the game. It's unique, a cultural mix of things. Visually, they can be unique. This god is represented in what some call the anti-classical style. All that we see represented in late art, the lack of realism and naturalness in favor of facial expressions. https://pressbooks.bccampus.ca/cavestocathedrals/chapter/late-empire/ This will also be useful later on.1 point

Indeed, surely this started early. For the ram I mentioned, Thucydides states that the defenders "snapped off the nose of the battering ram", implying it was capped, probably with metal like the Olympia ram, which is from around the same period. There are plenty of engagements for which there are no records, but in any case, attacks were usually concentrated on the gates. I don't see that as desirable, but other possibilities could be: -Spy units hard to see to the enemy, which I proposed recently, could open gates. This is not some far fetched Trojan Horse thing: "political factions aiming at the overthrow of a government could render invaluable assistance in several ways. One method was the opening of the gates of a city under siege. Another was to make it possible for enemy forces to enter the besieged city under the cover of darkness. An excellent example of this is provided by the siege of Plataiai. According to Thoukydides (2.2.1-3), a force of three hundred Boiotians entered the city at night with the aid of Nauklides and his friends who opened the gates for them", from Espionage and Treason in Classical Greece, by A. Gerolymatos. -Later on, siege ladders could be considered, since apparently they "are mentioned in a fragment attributed to Archilochus" ca. 650 BC. -Even later, around 585 BC "the Lydians, presumably under Alyattes II, took Old Smyrna by building an earthen siege ramp" (which included wood). Maybe the Greeks learned from that, but their use by them is not attested until over a century later. -On top of all that, initially walls would have been made mostly of mud-brick, which "resting on a low rubble socle, was not very high or very strong", from Ancient Greek Fortifications, 500-300 BC, by N. Fields. This would have made "climbing the stone and mubrick walls" feasible at some points (as mentioned in the Iliad), where their slope wasn't as steep. For game purposes these points could be where the walls take a turn, and some units could be able to walk over them (at a great speed and resistance cost). In any case, at some point "all-stone fortifications became more common", allowing for taller and steeper walls. Still, there's an interesting difference between both kinds of materials, although maybe hard to implement in the game: "against the blows of engines brick brings greater security than fortifications built of stone. For stones break and are dislodged from their fittings; brick however, does not suffer so much from engines, but it crumbles under the action of water just as wax is melted by the sun" (the last method being how Sparta took Mantineia).1 point

Just downloaded it and tested it. I saw a mod that was yellow, some green, and some white. Also, the check for updates button worked. It seems to be working for me. Maybe being able to update mods from the main mod menu would be nice (though, it takes 5-7.324 seconds to get to the download page that it probably doesn't matter, and if you need to agree to the terms and conditions) Can that be a Pull Request?1 point

Another thing I mentioned could be considered is the temple of Athena Chalkioikos (mentioned by Pausanias in https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0064%3Aentry%3Dsparta-geo), which was their most important temple. Chalkioikos means copper or bronze house, apparently it was internally decorated with bronze sheets, while there's "Euripides' mention of χαλκόπνλος, 'she of the Bronze Gates'" (from The Importance of Bronze in Early Greek Religion, by S. Constantinidou), so I wonder if a temple with shiny opened bronze gates revealing a shiny interior could be a possibility. Sadly, it's quite hard to reconstruct, since there's almost nothing to work with, but I've considered "an exterior peristyle, characteristic of Doric architecture. The temple's construction utilized local limestone, and evidence suggests that it was adorned with bronze sculptures and offerings" (https://madainproject.com/sparta#sanctuary-of-athena-chalkioikos), "the marble upper body of a hoplite (480–470 BC), which is now on display in the Museum of Sparta and has been identified with Leonidas was found around the temple. According to some archaeologists it was probably part of the sculptural complex of the temple" (https://realsparta.gr/en-us/What-to-do/Archaelogical-Sites-Monuments/Sparta-Acropolis), and "the volume of bronze objects at Athena Chalkioikos, including weapons, tools and votive artifacts, suggests that this Spartan sanctuary held a special place in local production, where religious devotion intertwined with economic activity" (from The Historical Review of Sparta, edited by G. Piras and R. Sassu R), among other things.1 point

I have to thank you for the whole "woman" thread, I found it hilarious. I was just disappointed that no one posted the Zoolander meme "but why male models?" Every time someone complains about not changing what already works (as if it would be the only possibility that works), "tampering" it with historical accuracy (as if it's not one of the stated priorities of the game), or ignoring those who don’t play competitively (as if they are not a majority vital for the growth of the game), remember, YOU can also just make your own "let's just leave it as it is right now forever and ever" mod :). But of course, I always enjoy these rants over a game whose development is, indeed, a hobby for many who try to combine their ideas to create something special. All the bugs you mention I'm sure will be sorted out in time, no need to dismiss all that is not that.1 point

Those who genuinely want to contribute ideas or discuss the game will come to the forum; otherwise, they simply don't care. I've been playing this game since 2018 and only joined the forum late last year. Since then, I've participated in several discussions related to the game, developed some things to improve it, although most haven't worked as intended since I'm not a programmer. However, I've used the knowledge and resources I've gathered to provide input to some capable developers. For me, the past few months have been more meaningful to the game than the previous years combined. So, if you have any specific ideas, create a topic and discuss them.1 point
