Especially since even when you build a wonder, you STILL have to research the Glorious Expansion technology to get any benefit from it. The Glorious Expansion technology should be removed and just made part of the Wonder, to give it any use.2 points

Wonders are one of the most useless building in the game. They super expensive in resources and time. I don't know if I've seen a game all alpha where building a wonder helped that team (assuming it isn't a win condition).2 points

Athenian Hero Roster. Guess who they are? I think it'd be fun to add a bunch of other, non-trainable heroes to the game, if only for the Herocide game mode. Alcibiades, Aristotle, and Demosthenes would be great examples.2 points

Hi everyone, for the 0.28.0 release the plan is to make 0ad available as an AppImage together with the Windows installer and the macOS bundle. That means easier access to a binary for users uncomfortable building 0ad from source when they can't wait for their distribution to update the package. This also means AppImages will be added to the bi-weekly builds used for testing when the support matures a bit. By now you probably already thinking give me the link already, so here the link to where the latest test build is available from: https://jenkins.wildfiregames.com/job/test-appimage/ How to run the AppImage you ask? First you need to install fuse which allows for filesystems in userspace. Maybe the package is called libfuse for you distribution. You will need fuse version 2.x for AppImages. Next download the artifacts and verify the downloads which can be done for example as follows: $ md5sum -c 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage.md5sum 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage: OK $ sha1sum -c 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage.sha1sum 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage: OK $ minisign -V -m 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage -P RWTWLbO12+ig3lUExIor3xd6DdZaYFEozn8Bu8nIzY3ImuRYQszIQyyy Signature and comment signature verified Trusted comment: timestamp:1752172582 file:0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage hashed Then make the AppImage executable $ chmod +x 0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage Then launch 0ad $ ./0ad-0.28.0dev.AppImage Finally report if it works for you or not and what distro you are using. A note here, the basis for the AppImage is Debian 12, oldstable by the time of the 0.28.0 release. If your distribution is substantially older than that it might not work.1 point

You know Wonders give you a food trickle (1 of each res/2 s) as well? But I think we should discuss the usefullness of Wonders with their own technologies further in another thread.1 point

Personally I am fine with this. It is a bit weird and really benefits only in survival of the fittest. Another one is the wonder swapping if you have a ally with diplomacy on: Let the ally capture your wonder, you build a new, change alliances recapture, enjoy having 2 wonders. Now help your ally doing this.1 point

Hi, I and several others including @Arup tried rc2 and rc3 in a handful of games. I don't think much has changed on the user facing part since when I had a first look when I got aware of the branch about half a year ago. Do we know how many of the balancing advisors and "player-testers" if those do exist made TGs in the rcs like there were before the others alphas ? The Germans are quite cool but we noticed some balance issues (1 severe one is fixed now). Unfortunately there likely won't be any changes before release because "strings ought not to be changed" anymore. Even if the last commits I can see do exactly that ... https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/issues/8694 The game is otherwise looking stable from what I can tell. I will download rc4 now and I expect it to be similarly stable.1 point

Here is a video demonstration of the playthrough @Stan`if you think it's a good idea, maybe I can make a PR and add these campaigns into public? I get that my maps are very empty, so any artistic recommendations would be welcome as well We really are missing campaigns and it would be cool to merge in some other people's campaigns as well so that the singleplayers have something fun to do :O1 point

《Darius I》 Amidst political turmoil and rebellion, Darius the Great rises to power in the Persian Empire, facing challenges from outlaw rebels and Gaumata the Magus either disguising as Bardiya, the rightful heir who was killed by his brother Cambyses II, or seven nobles killing Bardiya himself, who has weakened the empire by not taxing for 3 years. Darius, along with six other nobles, navigates the complex political landscape to solidify his rule and defeat threats from the Scythians and Greeks. With strategic prowess and determination, Darius successfully establishes his dominance and ensures the empire's stability. Step into the sandals of Darius the Great, the ruler of the vast Achaemenid Empire, at the peak of its power. As you navigate the delicate balance between conquest and diplomacy, you must defend your empire from rebellious provinces, including the unruly Ionians and the fiercely Scythians, the nomad warriors of the steppe. Engage in epic battles against Greek city-states, including Athens and Sparta, who dare defy your rule. Expand your empire by outsmarting rival kings, quelling uprisings, and securing your place as the greatest ruler of the ancient world. Can you unite the vast Persian Empire and secure your legacy, or will the flames of rebellion consume all you’ve built? The fate of empire rests in your hands. Five days after the defeat of Gaumat the Magus, the Seven Lords of the Persian Empire, (Otanes, Ardumanish (possibly the same as Aspathines), Gobryas the father of Mardonius, Intaphrenes, Megabyzus I, Hydarnes, Darius I) each powerful in their own right, gathered in the grand chambers of the royal palace, where their decisions would determine the future course of the Achaemenid Empire.According to Herodotus, after the departure of Cambyses II for Egypt, the usurper Gaumata impersonated Bardiya (Smerdis), the younger brother of Cambyses, and became king. A group of seven Persian noblemen became suspicious of the false king and conspired to overthrow Gaumata. After defeating and killing Gaumata, in a negotiation to determine the form of government, Otanes (Hutan) recommended a democratic government, but his offer was not adopted, and monarchy continued in Iran. Darius I suggested continuing with monarchy, arguing that centralized leadership by a single capable ruler is far superior to other forms of government. He believed that democracy and oligarchy breed partiality, conspiracy, and treachery, as competing individuals or factions pursue personal interests over national welfare. In such systems, corruption flourishes, leading to division and unrest. Darius asserted that, eventually, these conflicts would culminate in the rise of a national hero who would emerge to restore order and suppress the factions. This hero would gain the admiration and support of the people pleading with him to take the reins of power, inevitably leading to a return to monarchy. He emphasized that the freedom and prosperity enjoyed by the people are due to the legacy of strong monarchs like Cyrus the Great. Darius warned that abandoning the established monarchical system would only result in chaos, as no other system could provide the stability and unity that monarchy does. 4 Players: 1.
