Been working on a Corinthian Isthmus skirmish map update: First for Delenda Est, then I'll despecialize it (take out the Mercenary Camps, primarily) for Empires Ascendant. You'll have to contend with Pirate Ships, Brigands, and angry Farmers who will try to stop you from taking their rich farmlands.2 points

I apologize if this isn't the right thing to do ....I just don't know or how else to proceed. I originally submitted this sound error via a new ticket. It was "#6673 new defect" I received a few replies to this ticket. Below is the original posting: I'm using Ubuntu 22.04 When starting 0AD for the first time & after a power-up, 0AD loads fine, but there's no sound. Sound checked OK in other apps. The first time this happened, I uninstalled 0AD then re-installed to Alpha 26. NO CHANGE. Every time I do this, I exit the game then restart it. 0AD then has sound. I get no other issues. I used the Snap path to find the config file but even after a long search, I could not find any LOG file. I attached the config file. One reply suggested I try an OpenAL app: "Since 0 A.D. basically outsources sound processing to OpenAL" So, since it was already installed, I ran the OpenAL app called SuperMarioKart. It ran perfectly, sound OK, graphics OK too. How can I fix this no sound in 0ad issue?1 point

I have loved seeing this game and community grow and I want to get involved! Im down for anything I Just want to get involved and help and see this game become its best.1 point

I don't think the technical aspect of how to implement an automatic loss for someone who leaves a rated game is the meaningful consideration here. The intention of the ELO rating system is not to punish players for leaving games but instead it's meant to provide a scoring/ranking system that would hopefully, after enough games are played, represent somewhat closely the reality of which players are better than others. This is also meant to be used as a tool which can help players and the host of a match to assess players' skill level and assign balanced teams. The phenomenon of players leaving a rated match is usually the following case: A player realizes they're losing and so instead of allowing themselves to lose points they attempt to subvert the system so their rating will remain unchanged. This is against the rules. Reports of this are reviewed and confirmed as an instance of this happening. I guess it seems it wouldn't make much sense to award a win to a new player who starts a rated match with someone rated much higher but then, due to some circumstance, the match ended prematurely with points not being awarded. The new player is not a better player than the other. If rating points were to be awarded I think it would necessarily result in the rating of the new player being inflated improperly. The same can be said about players that are near to each other in skill but one is probably (at least slightly) better than the other. Awarding to someone an unearned win by giving ELO ratings points doesn't seem to make sense if one is considering the intention of the ELO system. I wonder if there could be a separate system (honor points of some sort?) which can be used as a demerit for bad behaviour or a reward for good behaviour, not affecting the ELO of players since otherwise it's undermining the ELO.1 point

You can disable "Filter compatible replays" then all replays are visible... But you can't run them When starting pyrogenesis with "--replay-visual=" it's possible to run them.1 point

Hello! I love your game! its incredibly beautiful and engaging! I love strategy games and have been playing the genera for at least 20 years and 0 A.D is my favorite game for city building and ancient fighting! I love the battles and formations and everything but I would like to suggest a few things that could make the game cooler. Paved roads - I'm sure you guys have in mind a way of changing the terrain I think the ability to build paved roads would make the game very appealing especially if you have to pay stone to build them. Stairs to mountains - I have managed to put some workers on top of the flat mountains in an Islands map and the result was amazing! the cities with walls in 2 levels makes it look so majestic! I have attached some pictures of my city building... It would be great if we could build some stone stairs to walk up the mountains and have different ones from narrow to wide. imagining having some fights on the stairs to a beautiful acropolis sounds very cool! I would even consider adding an extra height to mountains so there could be three levels on cities. The walls wake a lot of space on the small available space it would be great if the game was more forgiving about building them on mountain terrain. Decorations - your game is already very beautiful! but I think it could become the most visually appealing RTS game on the market if you could also add a ton of fountains, sculptures, gardens, ground mosaics, fruit tree farms, aqueducts, etc... It would be great if the decorations were not very constricted by other buldings and you had the freedom to place them almost wherever you want even if they become imbedded into some other building... I hope my ideas can help this great game become even better! I would appreciate to know if any of this ideas is being considered but I understand you may be busy working on the game! thanks for letting us participate in the process with a small impute. links to screenshots: https://ibb.co/YZLqdpV https://ibb.co/9v62dvM https://ibb.co/0Yy3bG0 https://ibb.co/612w7WB1 point

I wonder if a 0ad youtuber could try posting a short 1 to 2 minute comparison. I am very curious about the potential benefits, but I will need to wait for a mac compatible release candidate. It seems some players report significant performance improvements, and some report none at all. it seems a lot of potential 0ad players are turned away from 0ad by performance issues, so perhaps this could be a popular video. @ValihrAnt @leopard @seeh @Darkcity1 point

Yes, the place that you installed 0ad does make a difference. If you're using a Snap of an application then it's sandboxed, which can sometimes interfere with the app's access to hardware such as graphics or sound. You said that you installed 0ad from Ubuntu's repository, then it's not a a Snap. But, from your screenshot it seems like 0ad might be installed as an app. Anyway, you might have both installed. Enjoy the choice. :-) It means you need to be more aware of what exactly you're starting whenever you start 0ad. You can try viewing the .desktop file (the shortcut to the app) as a text file to see the path that it's starting. /home/yourusername/snap/0ad/current or /home/yourusername/.config/0ad/logs Attach as many of those files as you can, with priority of mainlog.html, interestinglog.html, system_info.txt, and userreport_hwdetect.txt1 point

You tested SuperMarioKart, but the advice is to try with SuperTuxKart. Anyway, games besides 0ad are free to change the sound systems that they use, so they aren't guaranteed to be using OpenAL. You can look at the source code or the library dependencies of the game to verify whether it's actually using OpenAL. Also follow the rest of the advice for troubleshooting sound in 0ad in the FAQ. (Scroll down to the answer to "No sound, no audio, or 0 A.D. is the only app with sound." Also, are you running 0ad from a sandbox, such as Snap, AppImage or Flatpak? If so, any testing of other OpenAL apps needs to be done in the same sandbox. What kind of cable is used to connect your computer to your monitor? Examples are DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, or VGA. You can attach complete logs from 0ad, tell us what tests you did, and connect to IRC for specific troubleshooting help.1 point

I'm not sure how SuperMarioKart works or runs since it is a proprietary game. From what I know a few people have experienced issues with sound on Linux. Here is a bug report No sound in 0AD Flatpak (version 26) · Issue #65 · flathub/com.play0ad.zeroad (github.com) Another one1 point

@Bairon Torres you cant do much about that except updating to a24 or a25. I will look which mods are broken but then you still need to wait for their creators to correct it. Or you can try to get the mod from other sources like their github or moddb page so you don't need to use ingame downloader.1 point
