Ping: @LordGood @Alexandermb @Sundiata I was wondering if you guys would be interested in modeling a 0 A.D. kart for STK. Would be nice to show the little collaboration we have with them. The unit would also be used as a cheat unit for our game maybe in lower resolution.5 points

The inside of the ship is actually a bubble bath, with Leonidas sitting in it wearing nothing but his helmet. As the kart turns and banks, bubbly water sloshes about and rubber duckies bounce around, while Leonidas drunkenly swings around a cup of wine in one hand and a xiphos in the other.5 points

Would anyone be interested in a lite version of 0AD with only one civilization ? This way it would be very lite and ideal for small events on little USB keys.3 points

I've merged D14 and D53 patches and it has improved pathfinder performance a lot (see this topic). I've already made a few tests myself, however a real multiplayer game is needed. The purpose of this test is to check: - if there aren't any errors - how does the patch improve performance Common issue of multiplayer games with large number of players are lags, appearing when there are lots of units. In some cases it makes game unplayable. Goal of this patch is to fix these lags or at least decrease them. We need to play such multiplayer game with lots of units and unlimited population. We need at least 6 players. We already have two: me and @Feldfeld Download latest version of code, apply attached patch and compile. (See build instructions for more info) EDIT: attached patch contains memory leak, newer version is available to download on D14. pathfinderupdate.patch2 points

Wildfire Games, an international group of volunteer game developers, is happy to announce the re-release of 0 A.D. Alpha 23 “Ken Wood”, the twenty-third alpha version of 0 A.D., a free, open-source real-time strategy game of ancient warfare. This version is a maintenance release. Blocking bugs were fixed and security and legal issues were addressed. The gameplay remained untouched, and both versions of Alpha 23 are multiplayer-compatible; however we advise you to upgrade to benefit from the following fixes. The team wishes to apologize for the delay in re-releasing. We have addressed other issues whenever we couldn't make more progresses on the game itself, so the re-release has not been a completely negative procedure. Easy Download and Install Download and installation instructions are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. 0 A.D. is free software. This means you are free to download, redistribute, modify and contribute to the application under the same licenses (GPL v2 or a later version for code and Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 for artwork, see license). Although you might find some people selling copies of 0 A.D., either over the internet or on physical media, you will always have the option to download 0 A.D. completely gratis, directly from the developers. No “freemium” model, no in-game advertising, no catch. Improvements Multiplayer lobby Major fixes: Hosting and joining games on the lobby now works reliably on macOS. Lobby lag and freezes have been fixed. Measures have been taken to prevent lobby denial-of-service attacks. STUN cannot be abused to make clients crash anymore. Game start times have been improved (by up to 10s) when no AI players are present. This prevents disconnects on game starts. Quality of life: Lagging players can be reported at game start. Disconnects and quits are better handled during game loading. The "I'm Ready!" status can now be reverted by right-clicking the button. Hosts can no longer start games if some player is not ready. Auto-completion of chat messages in the game setup has been improved. Network synchronization Out-of-sync (OOS) issues arise when the clients of different players compute the simulation differently. Our OOS debunking work flow has been improved. Specific OOS issues on game rejoin have been resolved for the Danubius map and for square maps, as well as after double-clicking on the "Start game!" button. Kushites in-game text During the Alpha 23 release, Transifex (our translation platform) had not updated a few resources, resulting in some localized in-game text relating to the Kushites not appearing in the game, despite the hard work of our translators. The missing strings now appear in the game. GDPR compliance The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on May 25th, 2018, just as we were releasing Alpha 23. We decided to take the bull by the horns and to continue working on the re-release by making 0 A.D. compliant and more secure. All the sub-services that collect personal data from you now feature a Privacy Policy and updated Terms of Service and of Use. To continue playing the game, you will have to accept all future modifications of those policies. In a few days, we will release the Privacy Policies of our websites to make them GDPR-compliant as well. New privacy policies For more information, now and in the future, please see the related wiki page: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/UserDataProtection Security The lobby server was upgraded to the latest versions of its distribution and software. The lobby client now supports the TLS cryptographic protocol. Lobby authentication is now required (new feature of A23). Secure HTTPS links are now used wherever possible in the game. Miscellaneous Lobby buddies are no longer printed in the main application log. A build issue on Arch Linux has been resolved. Support of biomes in map previews has been fixed. mod.io status update Alpha 23 saw the launch of mod.io, a platform for hosting and sharing mods, which allowed us to build a mod downloader inside 0 A.D. A few months later, we can say that this launch was a massive success! We went over the 10k downloads milestone, and at the time of writing, we are steadily headed towards the 50k one. We warmly thank the modders for their incredible work of making their mods work with A23, and uploading them to mod.io. It is thanks to them and the players that 0 A.D. is #1 on the platform! Don't hesitate to subscribe there if you want to receive notifications about new mods and secure our place on the platform. Support us The work is still in progress and can use every helping hand. We are looking for programmers, especially those interested in improving our game engine (written in C++), and most notably its graphics pipeline. Javascript programmers are also welcome to help develop the game mechanisms. Artists are always needed: in particular good animators and environment artists who could give our terrain textures a boost, and create more eye-candy. You can also help with translating the game in your language at Transifex, by donating, or simply by spreading the word around you. If you experience a technical problem with the game, please report it at trac.wildfiregames.com. This is also the first address to visit when you wish to dedicate some of your time to help patching the code. Got any further questions or suggestions? Discuss them with other players and developers at the forum or talk with us directly in the IRC chat. Actually the changes i used in the mod are something like 4 lines added for it to work so it might be not worth to use it as a dependency but here's the mod anyway. heroes-do-not-reincarnate.zip This should work2 points

I agree with this idea. I do not want to be in the cart next to it when turns because then I would only see some guy with Greek helmet riding atop of duck in bubbles and the only thing missing would be rainbow ponies.1 point

Interesting. Perhaps 2 civs to showcase the potential variety and pose an interesting historical scenario. Spartans and Persians for instance. Use only the Spartan menu background as well. Strip out all the non-greek and non-persian music. Only 2 skirmish maps, a Greek one and a Desert one, stripping out the other biomes and maps. Good idea.1 point

Nice work, with TLS disabled I can join the lobby ! Thank you so much ! I am on High Sierra 10.13.6 by the way. Thanks a lot for great improvements on this game and efficient technical support !1 point

Maybe it only occurs in late game ? Since the beginning is not that intensive. Diagnosing memory is a bit tough though it's easier on Linux when using Valgrind. The thing Valgrind does is trying to find leaks and issues with memory. But it slows drastically the game. That's something Im willing to learn but I haven't had the time yet also the debug build on Windows is broken because of Fcollada. I need the help of @vladislavbelov to figure out why it compile on vs2015 but makes and unusable dll. And why it crashes on vs2013 but only on the release build and on models exported by blender and containing animations. And why it does so too When packaging on Windows. According to leper an assert somewhere could be removed but that would only not make it crash and not fix the bug. You might want to try since it's very likely it will be in upcoming versions of the game. Just don't go too hard on the number of threads and avoid playing on your lap. Your hardware is supposed to be Designed for thermal protection so you should be fine.1 point

I haven't released the fixed version of the mod yet... It will probably come this week, depending on how long it takes to be verified by wfg.1 point

Yeah, I forgot. If you din't tick the checkbox default number of threads will be used, so by default default number of threads is used Thank you for packaging this patch I will take a look at this too. Actually my memory usage is 3.5 GB for 7 AIs on linux. My memory usage exceeds 4GB (5.5GB at the moment), but I get no crash. I've heard that windows version is 32-bit so cannot allocate more than 4GB.1 point

Since our announcement was shared in a few places among them the Wildfire Games Forums a few questions were asked. It is time to answer some of them. Project name No, the final project name will be Fork AD 9001. Project goals We still adhere to the old ideals of doing things properly. That means we first have to fix some code rot so there is a nice foundation to build on. Do note that this does not mean that there are no improvements upon already sound bases. While we intend to improve all aspects of the game, our current focus is on mod support and single player improvements. Different culture How we differ is in that we actually discuss things when discussion is needed, and ask for each others feedback. As opposed to a culture that makes one think of the quote "What we've got here is failure to communicate". Though we apparently caused quite a surge in WFG team communications with our announcement, you're welcome. Private source Yes, the repo is currently not public. Select individuals might be given access if it seems worth it however. Contributing to 0 A.D. We think some people might want to read the initial announcement again if it wasn't clear enough. Everyone is free to do with our released code what the license allows them to do. But that is where us contributing to 0 A.D. ends. Last we checked trying to interact with them did not lead to any useful result, and talking to walls is not the best use of our time. We do wish them luck with getting Alpha 23 released in a state that is worth calling a release. Something else that might be worth reading are the words of the most active contributor that is left "Secondly the capable motivated and available developers went down"source. And since we want to let people make up their own mind we do include some statistics, that might be skewed by a few factors. Among them are people committing patches by others, people doing reviews of others' code instead of committing things, and more. And not even all of us kept contributing through that full date range, but without further ado: git shortlog -sn --since='2017-01-01' --until='2017-12-31' 618 elexis 248 autobuild 228 mimo 147 fatherbushido 80 Imarok 59 leper 49 bb 48 Stan 46 Itms 30 wraitii 14 LordGood 14 Pureon 14 s0600204 13 enrique 9 vladislavbelov 6 FeXoR 3 gallaecio 3 scythetwirler 2 omri Despite our reservations against what is left of the team, we do appreciate them allowing part of this discussion to happen on their forums. As always we are open to questions and if you want to have your questions answered immediately, then you know where to find us. Kind regards, fatherbushido, leper and mimo.1 point
