  1. I made this map for a demonstration purpose, and was wondering if a mountainous map should or shouldn't look more or less realistic in 0 A.D. This design has building limitations as its very mountainous, but in a mountainous region I imagine this would be true. Before continuing to expand the map which is in a medium size. I would like to know if pursuing a map design like this has any use before going to a large/giant size map.

  2. It was implemented, but I think it was when Philip rewrote the pathfinder that it got removed since it made the calculations a lot more complicated (and/or made it possi9ble to do something else, I seem to recall there being a limit to the different passability types, and by removing e.g. the roads as a specific type it was possible to use it for something else).

  3. Thanks Stan. The performance problem is definitely not only related to the forums, because the IRC bot also sometimes reports things half an hour to an hour after they happened on Phabricator. Also just clicking on things on the forums takes longer than it used to.

  5. I contacted @implodedok and he said we should contact IPB (I believe someone did so) to see if it's a problem on their side on ours and if it's the later he'll have a look when he gets some time he is busy at the time.

  6. Hi, I got 0ad fairly recently and i've been making a map in the scenario editor . The map itself works although it isn't complete however I cant find a way to make a preview image work. I tried to add this one in a few ways but can't get it to show up ingame. does anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance

  7. We don't have any of these huge mountain maps (besides that one skirmish 3v3 map scythetwirler made in a19 committed in a21), because prior to sanderd17's patch the maximum height was 8 times lower. About mapsizes, it's a big performance issue if we go beyond normal or large. Medium maps are good for 2-3 players if all of the terrain is accessible, but Normal mapsizes are usually golden middle. I would like to see some more realistic mountains, but as wowgetoffyourcellphone correctly mentioned, it is important to keep it playable. About this specific screenshot, I would make more area passable. Also notice place actor trees (trees that cant be gathered from) if they are inaccessible (otherwise units will try to reach it). Also goats, right?

  8. I really like these kind of natural looking maps. My concern is that the bottlenecks are a little too bottlenecky.. It seems impossible to manoeuvre siege equipment around, and the single access point to each CC-area makes an assault nearly impossible against a decent player. Perhaps increase the CC area size, add secondary access points and broaden the access routes enough for siege-equipment?

  9. Ah, thank you I forgot to address that. Fixing it right now.

  10. It'd probably play like a Stronghold game, especially neat since you have to pick what buildings you can build in that limited space.

  11. While it looks super cool I wonder about gameplay on maps with realistic size mountains.

  12. The available area of the players is about equal, but the guy at the bottom left seems to have a big disadvantage with regards to trees, no?

  13. So I changed the texture that is closer to a Roman road, and changed the name of the map to Via Augusta. I did a little research on Roman roads, and darn they knew how to make some impressive roads for that time in history. My name doesn't need to be in the credits if the map is commited. Here's a link for the Roman road I think fits this map. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Julia_Augusta Xml: Via Augusta (4).xml Are the PMP file needed?

  14. In fact I have created a ticket because I see this forum thread just being forgotton and neglected like many others: #4934. If you want to be mentioned with your full name in the credits, please post it here or upload a patch for art.json. Also Roman Roads had more stones on them? So perhaps a different map name or a different texture would improve the historical accuracy :-)

  15. You've hit the nail on the head, Lion. I just refuse to participate in stuff like this. I only pay for complete games. And Empires Apart does seem intereseting to me, if only it wasn't such a mess.

  16. I think other AIs can be added to simulation/ai without touching Petra, like when Aegis coexisted with petra. Then a battle of the AIs could decide the winner. The thing is: who would do such hard work? Just getting to know the game state, which is huge, is very hard.

  17. It's not so important to have a certain amount of resources, but to have the equal amount for all players. If resources are rare, players have to use them very wisely. But if one player has more resources than the other one, or easier access to them, it won't be a fair battle.
