  2. Two more improvement suggestions: 1. When constructing towers, fortresses, military colonies, or civic centres, could circles be shown around the existing ones to indicate where you can not build the new ones? 2. When having buildings, ships, or siege weapons selected, could circles be shown around those to indicate their current range?

  4. The early Muscovite Period marked the starting point of the rise of Russian Civilization. Not European, nor Asian, the Russians are a people unique. Join this glorious civilization, as they break the shackles of Mongolic oppression and march towards the construction of one of the greatest empires to ever exist on earth. MILITARY AND WEAPONRY -Two centuries of Mongol domination weren’t just about submission. The Eastern Slavs learned and incorporated a great deal of the Golden Horde’s combat techniques. Extensive use of cavalry and archery play a big part in this faction’s fighting. Agile archer riders, often having a powerful saber in the reach of their hands are the strong point of the Russian Army. -Long swords, as found in Western European lands, were almost totally surpassed by the Asiatic-style saber, a much cheaper, faster, and easy-to-handle kind of weapon. Long swords are restricted to a few noble champion units. -The crossbow, a lethal artifact imported from the Far East, is one of the aces used by this people. Have a regiment of quick-fire crossbowmen in your army to shoot certain death at your enemy. -Units are cheaper and faster trained than most civilizations’, what eases the possibilities of an early attack. Warriors have, however, weaker armor. ARCHITECTURE -The vast majority of buildings are made of wood, what makes them cheap and fast to build. -Unique structures include the Bath House, where injured units are healed quickly. GENERAL BONUSES -The Orthodox Priest has one of the strongest conversion powers. Update him to Patriarch to enhance conversion power, especially over non-Christian units. -Lumbering rate is the fastest in game. -Train only pigs at corral, which are more nutritious than cattle and also fastest to breed and butch. -Cheap and fastly trained military. - Low use and need of metals. Concepts to follow soon.

  5. This October, I will be co-delivering a talk about human aspects in FOSS game development, with a developer from Spring RTS. The talk will focus on what players, developers and other community members want or need from their 0 A.D.-related activities, on conflicts that might arise between these groups and within them, and how those conflicts are (or aren't) resolved. I'd like to collect some players' perspectives on 0 A.D. for the purposes of this talk. Hence, I'd be glad if you could answer the following questions: How did you come across 0 A.D.? What motivates you to play 0 A.D.? Is there anything you want from any part of the 0 A.D. community and feel you're not getting? If so, why? Is there any more information you'd like to add? What is your age, gender, and location? Many thanks in advance! Aviv/Jeru

  8. Might make the movement enforceable with real nomadic civs they have to move when there herds overgraze the grasslands they currently held so maybe a timer based on the grazers herd numbers per section of grassland held if that's not to complicated to set up. Enjoy the Choice

  9. I believe that roflness is also a good english caster and plays much better. But I prefer anavultus' videos since it can relate to total NOOBs who can grow to lrean the game just like him. I should know since I'm like him and was with him nearly every step of the way. BTW if BeDoG is in the forums, shout out to you for his growth spurt! And, yeah, do like the 0 A.D. Videos.

  10. #1. I watch analvaltus' videos often. He has a very correct usage of English I do not hear from other player. Quite interesting. #2. Finally I see something from someone else I have experience. I think mods have lots of lag from the AI, something I have suspected for a long time. This happen at the beginning of the match. I think the AI is confused about changes made by mods. I don't know which changes though. I get something about 5-10 fps for the first 30 seconds of match and then the fps boost up to 50+ fps after that. I do not see this with mods disable. #3. Millenium AD, is mod still in development? Why not sub-forum here like Delenda Est and Prodigal Son?

  14. @Le Druide Gaulois I like the concept, but separated wall looks a bit unusual. I imagine something more intergrated: using the same base parts you have drawn, you can stick walls to the sides of the main structure and place towers in the corners to achieve something like this (gate church of Rostov Kremlin): Another interesting structure is the (reconstruction of*) Golden Gates of Kiev (which is obviously more suitable for Kievan Rus' rather than for Muscovite, but still can be used for inspiration): * Wikipedia article states: "It was completely rebuilt by the Soviet authorities in 1982, though no images of the original gates have survived. This decision has been immensely controversial, since there are many competing reconstructions of what the medieval gate might have looked like"

  15. Almost two years after the original post, I've decided to come back with some sketches. Not that I hope they'll come to life soon, but I was bored and decided to draw something that could be helpfull some years later. The Fort: References: I originally intended the guard towers (except for the gate) to be round, but I was failing to drawing them round.

  16. Easiest solution to make cavalry overall more useful is by giving them the ability to trample and run down infantry units.

  17. How did you come across 0 A.D.? Googling the web for free R.T.S. At that time it wouldn't even open on my computer. Also I wanted to contribute 3D art to the game. What motivates you to play 0 A.D. ? My motivation is to contribute to the game to offer as much fun to people who will play with my assets as I did making them and playing RTS games Is there anything you want from any part of the 0 A.D. community and feel you're not getting? If so, why? Maybe more vision, I mean there are some tickets on trac that have been waiting for design decisions for Years. Maybe a little bit more activity on the art side though I know most artists are busy. Is there any more information you'd like to add? Not really. What is your age, gender, and location? 22, male, France.

  19. Greetings dear community, I love open source, love to donate to open source projects and absolutely love 0 A.D. I have no doubt that in a few years 0 A.D. will become best RTS ever existed. Thank you to all contributors!!! However, I will not feel comfortable in game until able to play with Thracians faction and their heroes like Orpheus and Spartacus. I did see there is already thread about adding thracians in game and I really support the idea. I know they started to develop centuries earlier but in 0 A.D. they still exist and get lots of attention and conspiracies from their enemies. Masters of gold minting, jewelry creation and arts they are called "the sky nation" because of their deep spirituality and astronomic knowledge. Being warlike, ferocious, and bloodthirsty people they fight vigorously when their freedom is questioned. I am well aware that greeks stole Orpheus and the entire mythology behind! Hey, no flame war here please. In the latest Hollywood movie Orpheus is played by black actor so everything is possible these days : ) Everyone can believe whatever he likes, no problem about that, and I personally read the works of several todays phd thracologists which refer only to the ancient historian sources and not the modern, manipulated writings. It is not true that they did not have own writing characters. Thracians were referred all the time by the ancient Roman and Greek historians with their tribes names called after the local region they populate. Yes, there were more than 60 tribes of thracians. Herodotus (425 BC) would write: "The Thracian people is the most numerous one of the world; the Thracians have several names, according to their specific regions, but their habits are more or less the same." (Fontes, I, 65) The most numerous at the time after the people of todays India (more than 2 mil). At least 7 Roman emperors came from thracian provinces and are with thrace origin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ancient_tribes_in_Thrace_and_Dacia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thracians https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrace https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orpheus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thracia Images of the unbelievable thracian art in google: https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=thracians+art&hl=en&biw=1920&bih=924&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwisjfD2hdzMAhXHtxoKHQy5BZ0Q_AUIBigB Some quotes from the above pages: " Orpheus was a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion and myth. The major stories about him are centered on his ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music, his attempt to retrieve his wife, Eurydice, from the underworld, and his death at the hands of those who could not hear his divine music. As an archetype of the inspired singer, Orpheus is one of the most significant figures in the reception of classical mythology in Western culture, portrayed or alluded in countless forms of art and popular culture including poetry, film, opera, music, and painting. According to Apollodorus and a fragment of Pindar, Orpheus' father was Oeagrus, a Thracian king; or, according to another version of the story, the god Apollo. His mother was the muse Calliope; or, a daughter of Pierus, son of Makednos. In Bulgarian tradition, Orpheus is said to have been born in the village of Gela close to Shiroka Luka in southern Bulgaria. Modern day Bulgaria occupies roughly the same territory as ancient Thrace. Virgil associates Orpheus with the land of the Getae (north east Danube valley) and even describes him wandering as far north as Tanais (estuary of the river Don, Ukraine) The first historical record about the Thracians is found in the Iliad, where they are described as allies of the Trojans in the Trojan War against the Greeks. The history of Thracian warfare spans from c. 10th century BC up to the 1st century AD in the region defined by Ancient Greek and Latin historians as Thrace. It concerns the armed conflicts of the Thracian tribes and their kingdoms in the Balkans and in the Dacian territories. Emperor Traianus conquered Dacia after two wars in the 2nd century AD. The wars finished with the occupation of the fortress of Sarmisegetusa and the death of the king Decebalus. Apart from conflicts between Thracians and neighboring nations and tribes, numerous wars were recorded among Thracian tribes too. Thrace has been producing wine for the last 5000 years. Thracians may have had a cult for the drink, as evident from the worship of Dionysus. Ancient sources suggest that Thracians were among the best winemakers. According to some theories, the first vines in Europe were brought from the Middle East and planted in what is now Southern Bulgaria. At the beginning wine was produced along the Maritsa river and around seaports. " And so on. I understand that adding another faction and balancing it is lots of work but please I will help if the devs agree to make the game more accurate and fulfilled. Other suggestions and things I like to see in game (many of them are already mentioned by other users): 1. Thracian faction. 2. The legion and army formations I saw in another thread. 3. Adding two more ages - one before 0 A.D. and one after the 3rd. 4. When I ring the alert belt the women tend to garrison military buildings which do not add more arrows. I like them to go into not military buildings and the cc only so I have more space for soldiers. 5. When random map is generated it tends to be not be entirely even for all players which is completely fine (and should be this way) but sometimes is completely uneven, for example yesterday all metal mines were in bottom half of the map and the top players lost quickly. 6. Multithreading support and the constant lags when more units are present are well known issues. I play the game with all graphic setting on low on latest Intel i7 with 16GB of RAM and still the game quickly become unplayable at later stages. 7. ... Kindly let me know what you think about and don't judge me too harsh : ) If you like the thracians faction idea please mention it here. Thank you for your time! Orpheus
